"Carry Me Home" and "Institutionalized" kill me as far as getting 5 stars go on medium. D: I think Hanger 18 does too, but I'm not quite sure.

Hard and Expert modes are for the elite select few ultimate gamers... which is why they made all the songs unlockable just by beating the game on Medium, because Red Octane knows most people will never do it on hard. (I do hope to eventually beat it on hard tho, with practice.)

I agree, this time, Hard is hard. The average player will probably only beat Easy and Medium (it may take a while for some). It's amazing how good people are at this game, someone got 626,286 on Freebird on Expert (With proof). Sometimes you gotta wonder, do these people have real lives or are they just really good? :P

(Nice 300k on Freebird :) )

Eh, Hard's not really that hard (I mean, it kills my arms, and they hurt like heck, though). for some reason, I took a 3-week break and I came back and was better than when I was playing before that. I'm up to "Carry Me Home" and "Psychobilly Freakout" on Hard, and yes, they are harder than heck, but eventually I'll get past them, but those two amped up the difficulty by a LOT. =P

Also, it's pretty much agreed upon that Jordan on Expert is the hardest song on the game. Seriously, go into practice mode and check it out. xD A friend and I tried to do it together... hahah, it was hilarious. xD

If someone can beat that on here, I will give you my sincere congratulations. >_>

Edit - Now on the second set of songs on Expert

Just like to say I've gotten 5 stars on every song on Medium now, and I beat the game on Hard.. now I'm working on upping everything to 5 stars on Hard, that's going to take a significant amount of time-- but when / if I can do it I'll be ready for expert!

All I can say is nice job. How you beat Institutionalized with 5 stars is amazing.

Also, has anyone had problems with GH2? This would include freezing up at any point, skipping, crashing etc. I have had games freeze up right in the middle of a song multiple times.

Yeah, I got the 5 starts on medium as well (before I finished hard), but there's no way I'm going to get it on Hard anytime soon. I just BARELY passed Carry Me Home on hard (well, my meter was way up, but I don't think I could do it again if asked to)

I'm having trouble with Tattoo Love Boys and Monkey Wrench on Expert. Monkey Wrench I've gotten to 95% a couple of times, but after that happens you don't want to try again for a while. >_> Tattoo Love Boys I think I got 53% percent?

As for the problems with the game, I haven't experienced any yet (except that I have a wireless guitar, and the batteries like to pop out of place while I'm playing.)

Have you dusted out your PS2 in a while? I have to do mine every month or two, or is stops reading games well. If that's the case, you may need to open it up and do that. It definitely helps (though, it'll void your warranty if it's not expired alread).

Thanks :) I've actually gotten 5 golden stars (100%) on a few songs on medium so far, including Beast and the Harlot... (My personal fave song on the game.)

Yes, I've had freezing problems-- but I'm wondering if it's the new slim PS2 at fault. I play often at my friend's house and we've never ever had lockup or freeze on his old giant PS2, but on my new slim one I have had occassional freeze in the menus of GH2, as well as in other games- always seems to happen in menus tho.

The absolute best part of the game is having a big group to play with.. The group of ppl I play poker with, about a dozen ppl, 8 of us are totally into Guitar Hero 2 and 4 of us have bought it, so we basically have poker + guitar nights now-- which works out amazing, since we play tournaments-- get knocked out, play guitar. Lol. Only downside is that of this group, I'm the best player by a long shot.... On medium I smoke ppl because I usually score 99-100% on songs and I time my star power to maximize my scores. And on hard, I'm the only one who's beat the game. Thank god for co-op mode, or no one would ever play with me!

Yeah. Hard is hard to beat, I'll agree with that. I have a old fat PS2 by the way. After dealing with a LOT of problems with the game, I am going to offer everyone some good advice.

GOOD ADVICE BELOW:

If your game skips, freezes, doesn't show fretboard and meter and all that, TRY RESTARTING THE GAME!

EDIT: 5 stars on Carry Me Home! :)

*Update*...
Have gotten 5 stars on all medium songs. Have beat game on hard, with 5 stars on 27 of 40 songs. Have beaten 23 of 40 songs on Expert :)

I'm hung up on Freya on Expert-- can't get past 70%... Fingers just aren't fast enough yet, lol.

Ugh, I still can't get past Tattoo Love Boy and Monkey Wrench on Expert (did Monkey Wrench and got 93% again. >_>). I think I"m going to start 5 Stars on Hard instead... though Carry Me Home is the main song that I don't expect to 5.

*Update*...

Have got 5 stars on 32 of 40 songs on hard...and have upgraded to 4 stars on the remaining 8...

Have beaten 38 of 40 on Expert.. hung up on Hanger 18 . ( I can't get past the last solo, it takes my star power to get thru the first 2 killer solos then by the time i'm 90% of the way thru I just totally run out of endurance and have no star power left to carry me thru...) Haven't attempted Freebird yet, waiting till I actually reach it in career mode...

Hmm... lets see...

Some of these you may already know, but it actually took me a while to figure out (despite the fact that it tells you on loading screens xD)

Obviously, in easy, you're going to be playing with three fingers, when you get to normal, and past that, makes sure you use four.

If you have more than one note on the same fret (colour) coming up, you can just hold down that colour instead of pressing it each time.

If the song is slow or there's space between notes, then then press down the fret before you even get to the note so that you don't have to throw yourself off course right when you get there.

Definitely do the tutorial if you haven't already.

When you get to the point in the game where you do them practice, practice, practice your hammer-ons and pull-offs. Truth be told, I don't them correctly myself (though I can still do them). If you don't know what they are, they're in the tutorial.

Star power is a must sometimes, when your bar gets past halfway, and you see yourself about to lose, activate it and you should be good (as long as you're successfully hitting notes. :P)

There's probably something I'm forgetting, but a lot of it is just practice. The more you play, the easier things will start getting. Don't push yourself too hard, as your arms will pay for it. At most, play an hour or two a day, and come back and do it the next day. Also, if you find yourself getting worse at some of the songs instead of better, that's your cue to stop playing and come back the next day (or any amount of time later). From my experience, when you come back, you're much better at it then you were before.

Then againm I haven't played for nearly a month, Perhaps I should be ready to go now? xD

(Freya was kicking my butt last time I played)

Also, once you get more advanced, ScoreHero is a great site totally dedicated to Guitar Hero 1 and Guitar Hero 2 and whatever new Guitar Hero games there will be. Their members offer great advice on maximizing your score and other help you may need. Although they probably will still have help for beginners. With the site you can compare yourself to the scores of other people who are registered (over 16,000 people!) although it is pretty depressing to see that so many people are better than you are.

Some advice from me:

Use Hammer-Ons and Pull-Offs when you can, they are a lot easier this time around and after a bit of practice with them, you can get very good at them and pass more songs on harder difficulties.

Practice! There is a new mode in this game called Training Mode. You can get there from the main menu by clicking on Training and going to Practice. You can slow down certain parts or practice a solo, with this you can master solos easier without having to go through the whole song.

When the notes get really fast or have a beat to them (like a Red and Yellow note at the same time, but repeating multiple times to a beat or tempo) you should try strumming up and down, but not too fast! Just strum at the tempo or trial-and-error until you can get it, then you can master those parts.

Star Power can save you! If you are in the red, just activate Star Power either vertically tilting it or pressing Select and if you nail some or most of the notes, you can get back in the green.

I hope this helps! :)

(Oooh, I'll add some links to the first post of this thread to help people)

Haha, I didn't realize it until I actually bought the game (I had played it at Wal Mart before that), but the encore is just the 5th level of each group of songs you do. You automatically get an encore if you're playing in Medium difficult and above and get past the required songs. (there aren't encores in Easy mode, for some reason).

I really wish that Easy gave money... I almost have no incentive to play it (well, I'm trying to 100% every song...), but I end up quitting after a song or two because I'm so used to jamming buttons. x_x

I want the guitars, but I can't get myself to actually play through the mode.
