I thought he could communicate with animals because he was 'heart'? It was still a rather cruddy ring, and I really disliked that character. I don't remember why though...

I thought so too. I think he was the shortest character and in the beginning he was in this rock type area and he communicated with animals.
It's been so long, I can't really remember.

no.... the animals in captain planet did not no english. He could merely understand what they thought... and the rest is correct, accept he could not control animals to do his bidding, he could merely reach for assistance.
