Oh, shapu, the prof must think highly of you to suggest that, but, I have to ask, just what would one do with a PhD in management? One would think a masters would go just as far--unless you wanted to become a professor, that is. Particularly if the trade-off is spending your free evenings for the next 10 years in school. Argh!!!!!

Speaking of summer school, my daughter had to go this year and is bored out of her skull. She was very, very sick during the school year and missed a lot of school (I mean, ALOT of school). Mostly due a really bad adverse reaction to a drug that a doctor gave her. And, even though she missed so much school, she still managed to get all A's and B's in her classes, including her honors classes. I got statements from her various doctors saying that she had to be off of school due to illness and gave them to the administration. But, the principal still required her to go to summer school. So, even though she had passed academically, she still had to meet the requirement of certain number of days attended (go figure!!!) Totally not fair.

My daughter is so miffed. She is a brain-iac stuck in a class full of kids who flunked classes and are being given a second chance. I explained to her that it is like standing in line at the bank--just something you are required to do whether you like it or not.

Poor kid. What a way to spend her summer.

That must be rough.

I have no idea what I'd do with a doctorate. Heaven knows you don't want me teaching your kids. I have this weird tangent habit in every day conversations...must bug the bejeezus out of folks I know. I can't imagine some poor 18-year-old paying 28 grand a year to listen to me prattle on about something completely off-topic.

Anyway, I'd much rather teach biology. My courses are a means to an end...but cell bio? That stuff's wild.

I'm not on my schools summer program, they only have it for the "special" kids. Instead, I'm taking a summer class through this program called ATS. You get little amounts of homework, and I'm actually getting a little more fluent in Spanish (the class I'm taking). Next year, I might do advanced Algebra or Web Design. Fun stuff. I feel for your daughter, Morningstar. She sounds about my age, and that sort of stuff would suck.

She'll probably find a friend, I had to attend summer school one year because I had a recurring illness and it hurt me in my weakest class, math, (I could write my essays at home, lol) and made some friends in the class that had similar situations or moving or family stuff.

Not everybody in summer school is a slacker who's getting a second chance to barely pass. :)

Now, at University, I'm taking summer semester ,but its going well.

shapu- I have plenty teacherswho go off on tangents at every opportunity.

In a chemistry lessen about fermentation I was talking to my teacher about the movie 'The Graduate' and the song 'Mrs Robinson'.

Here in Blighty we don't have such a thing as a pass in grade, or summer school to make up your grade.

You go to school for the year. You either do good or you do bad. You come back into the next year. Bully for you, you had your chance.

My brother is going to a NAGTY (National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth) 'Summer School' at Durham University in summer. These aren't summer schools in your sense, though, and they contribute nothing towards your school- they're not linked at all. They're just extra, in depth learning about things like 'trade and commerce' for nyerds.
