Easter is actually the day in the christian (or catholic? I'm both, so I forget which) religion where Jesus was resurrected. That was the whole point of Easter originally and religiously.

And now, just like Christmas and Santa Clause, they've given Easter the Easter Bunny. :) It's sort of just like a mini Christmas, with a bit of Halloween mixed in. On Easter, most kids get an Easter basket filled with little gifts. There's also a lot of chocolate candy, many which are things only sold around easter. (Like chocolate eggs, and certain Peeps, and whatnot.)

^_^

Yes! Easter holiday has begun here.

We get a long weekend and then our teachers are going on strike, so the next month I might be homeschooled.

You know, if you buy tons of candy for Easter, put it off until a few days afterward. The candy will be on sale, and you'll save a lot. It'll be my strategy this year.

Today happens to be the start of my spring break/Easter vacation. It'll go to Monday, and most of the time shall be spent either knitting or trying to complete everything in the first RollerCoaster Tycoon. I'll still come here, of course. :)

The reason for the eggs and the bunny actually come from the integration of the Pagan holiday Ostara which is the solstice (Easter always falls the first Sunday after the first full moon after the solstice). They are symbols of fertility for us...I'm not quite sure WHY they've become a part of Easter though rofl

Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but at least that's what I've heard and been told...

Rabbits, eggs, baby chicks, all symbolize rebirth and renewal, which goes along with the Christian idea of Easter, with the resurrection and salvation.

Humm I try my best to give all chocolates equal chance to be eaten, I do favor milk over dark sometimes. If it's fancy chocolate though dark can be rather tasty and if I'm experiencing a chocolate deficiency I can eat all chocolate types.

No one's swaying me on this, but I'll say it anyways.

I won't celebrate Easter. Ever. Haven't even ever had an Easter Egg hunt. To me, its the equivilant of celebrating someones painful death, and immense hatred. Had Jesus not died, he wouldn't have been resurected. None of it should have happened in the first place, I'm not celebrating thank-you-very-much.

Fri Mar 25, 2005 4:07 am

Aye, Jen, I can see your point of view.

We don't do big things at Easter. Church on Holy Thurday, Good Friday, and Saturday night. No easter baskets. No easter eggs. No chocolate. Same old same old except with extra church and sorrow.

Fri Mar 25, 2005 4:20 am

It's more than that, though. It's a celebration of Spring and new beginnings. There are more meanings than someone dying and being resurrected. :)

You can celebrate the holiday without celebrating that event. :)
