I really want to see what Neopets game you're talking about at the very first post of this topic e.e

For some reason, a buncha people in my school say the world's gonna end September 27.

Personally? Eeh, like said before. Hakuna Matata, man.

And... yeah, the pope is... mortal.

Mon Feb 07, 2005 3:43 am

yeah, almost every pope -if not all of them- has died the day before hes replaced!
conspiracy i reckon, maybe the lizard people..

Wouldn't it be weird if the world ended tomorrow? With a big BANG and we didn't feel anything, just going, "Shiiiny bang. Wait, what? OMG I'M DEAD WAAAAH. ;_;???" afterwards. =D

Israel didn't exist as a country (with it's current boundaries and name) when the Bible was written (which was over a few centuries, but still). o.O

And knowledge can mean many things. Technology happens to be one of them. However, that does not mean that it does. Knowledge, for all we know, could actually mean... Knowledge. =P

I honestly don't think anything or anyone for that matter can predict when the world is going to end. When it happens, it'll happen. It'll most likely be a normal day, with nothing weird happening and BOOM, we're all dead.

And if the Mayans are right (Which I highly doubt), I'll give you a nickel.

When's the last time that you ever saw a Mayan be incorrect about anything?

Maybe it's already HAPPENED! And we just don't realize it, because we're all too stupid. And this isn't life anyway. Yes. The world ended and we're all living in the Matrix-dreamworld-thingy.

*Snuggles kitties*

At least we have the internet in dead Matrix-land. =D

You guys also failed to take into account that the Red Sox won the world series....so it MUST be the end of the world.

I've never seen a Mayan period.

Actually, all that is needed for the "end times" to start (according to the Bible) has happened but there are tons of predictions about that end times that haven't been fullfilled because the "end times" haven't started yet. And actually, the last prediction that came true was Israel becoming a nation again.

Now that I think about it, it didn't say technology, it said "knowledge". Same difference ("same difference" is really dum if you think about it).

What ...Alex pointed out is true.

Also:
knowledge:
2 a (1) : the fact or condition of knowing something with familiarity gained through experience or association (2) : acquaintance with or understanding of a science, art, or technique b (1) : the fact or condition of being aware of something (2) : the range of one's information or understanding <answered to the best of my knowledge> c : the circumstance or condition of apprehending truth or fact through reasoning : COGNITION d : the fact or condition of having information or of being learned <a man of unusual knowledge>

technology:
1 a : the practical application of knowledge especially in a particular area : ENGINEERING 2 <medical technology> b : a capability given by the practical application of knowledge <a car's fuel-saving technology>
2 : a manner of accomplishing a task especially using technical processes, methods, or knowledge <new technologies for information storage>

To be frank, I'm not one for conspiracy theories, and in my opinion, all the various theories about the world ending are just so much crap. It's really easy to find evidence of anything if you're looking for it, and frame it in the right way. Even if one prediction magically is right, there are so many different ones that by that point it's basically luck.

Personally, I think the world will probably wind down a long, long time from now when the sun dies, but hopefully we'll have found some different planets by then.

And if I'm wrong, I'll be on that spaceship. :P

I haven't read all of the replies, but just to respond to the initial post: Don't worry about it. Sure, the world could end in five minutes, but that's not very likely. Just take life one day at a time and don't worry about it. There are all sorts of disasters that could potentially happen at any moment; if you were to spend all of your time thinking about them, you'd just end up miserable.

And whatever you do, don't believe random sites on the internet. I can make up a site (domains aren't expensive) and call myself a graduate of some prestigious college, put all sorts of letters behind my name, and proclaim that the world should end at the end of this year. Any weirdo can make a website, and I am quite inclined to NOT believe the random theories thrown around. However, they can make one nervous, so don't even look at them.

prehaps not, but fossil records show much more than you would think.
great, terrible catastrophes occuring in sync with the end of each age, the great flood (noahs ark..) the great rain of fire (a super volcanoe eruption) somthing with fire that escapes me (the "devils tongue" meteor possibly)
and now some really, very bad rumblings around.. that, way.
i may not believe in gods as they are portrayed, but theres no sence in pushing my luck further.

Only if you define these "ages" as ending with particular (real or fictional) catastrophes.

What ages are these, anyway?

And what about equally catastrophic (real or fictional) events that didn't coincide with the end of these ages?

I'm also a little boggled about Noah's ark being mentioned after a lead-in about what fossil records show us, but if we're going to take that up we'd probably better shift that part of this discussion over to the Debating board.

Well, yah. Because the ends of ages are often defined by such catastrophes, real or fictional! It makes a handy-dandy marker.

Tue Feb 08, 2005 10:32 pm

these ages are refferenced to the decade.
very odd for a people who suposedly never left the americas (im not even getting into the atlantean debate now) to tell us the -almost to our knowledge- date of a great and terrible catastrophe that occured long before they lived in a land thousands of miles away.
