as far as i can tell, an autobuyer is an automated program which you can set to restock for you. hope that helps, because im not an expert. :)

An autobuyer is a program designed to automatically purchase items from the Neopets main shops (toy, food, ice weapon) without human intervention. So it's not YOU who sees the item, clicks on the item, and fills in the price and security info...it's the program.

They're faster that humans could ever be, and therefore create a distinct advantage for the people who use them. They're also against the Terms and conditions, and can therefore get you frozen for using them.

5. Limit number of rare items purchased each day.

Pardon me, but that very honestly one of the worst possible ideas for stopping ABers I've ever heard of. It simply isn't economically feasible, especially with the 40 million NP limit, and considering that there are more than a handful of items that are "rare" and show up very commonly, people would quickly run the limit up and many items would inflate due to lack of buyers. We're talking about an economic crisis on a massive scale here. Gamers would be even poorer than they already are, and restockers would be hard-pressed to get rare enough items to attain their goals.

I have to disagree with you there. Limiting players to a specific amount of rare items restocked each day will not reduce the number of said rare items, but will give other players a chance to have at them! ;)

I must say though, that Im not sure how that idea would stop autobuyers. Thinking realistically, if someone is shady enough to use an autobuyer, they more than likely dont have just ONE account...

Most use of 'auto-program-thingies' seems to be in the auctions, since the new picture verify shop purchasing. They're WAY EASY to spot and get frozen very quickly. I've been browsing and bidding and noticed a few. Frozen after an hour. I guess if your are greedy enough to use such programs, you are too greedy to use in moderation!

:D

It's a great list of ideas to stop them. The only one I don't agree with is the fifth. If you limit a user from buying a certain item or rarity, so many people would get frozen. =/

I don't think Neopets wants to loose the 70 million users they claim to have over restocking a single item too much.

Honestly, I don't see that autobuyers are that big of a problem. I've never used an autobuyer in my life and I still get rares in the toy shop. I think this is more of a "many people on Neopets" problem, and there have already been things to stop that (Such as clicking ever 5 seconds and clicking on the proper pet).

What is your connection speed?

Well concidering I've restocked well on a 56k, a DSL, and a T1 line ince the new system came out, I don't think that is a vaild point. Some people are just better at restocking than others, regardless of connection speed...and I've learned that a lot of people blame their lack of restocking skills on autobuyers than the fact that maybe they just aren't the best at restocking.

Very true, I actually gotten the chocolate avatar on my 56k, it's almost a tie between luck and speed when it comes right down to it.. but just like with everything else though practice makes blah blah blah :p

I think since the picture confirmation thingie the programs focus more on other parts of the site where a profit can be made. Like shopwizard, auctions, garage sale, etc

Ahh yes. Ive been a Powerpets player since it was still in Beta, and remember when the confirmation code was implemented.
For those who dont play, when you click on an item to purchase, you are taken to a screen much like the haggling screen on neopets, and sometimes there is a drop down menu of three or four numbers (like 247, 68, 020) and you have to select the number that is shown above that box in order to have a successful purchase.
I think it is a great system, but being that powerpets is nowhere near the size or status of neopets (as in the desire of specific items etc) I dont know if this would work or not.
