I was considering downloading it, but after reading this thread I think I'll wait until it's more stable. Thanks for the heads up.

my brother had automatic updates on the day it came out and it wouldn't allow him to shut down his computer until he installed, he ended up spending 4 days on the phone with Microsoft and HP only to find out that (just as with SP1) SP2 was not compatible with either HP or Compaq computers and he was effectively out of luck. He just had to reformat yesterday and reinstall everything from scratch. Needless to say, he no longer has auto-updates enabled. I'm just glad I'm running Windows XPPro so I had a few days of warning from his problems with Home.

Ugh, you guys O_o.

My computer is super duper! Loads twice as fast, runs twice as fast! Man, it's great! GREAT JOB!

Ahhhhhhhh! The service pack is horrible! I'd rather get hacked...well, maybe not...But the service pack does NOTHING, I turned off the firewall, because it tried to block programs like iTunes, and AIM. It also messed up some of my usersettings.....overall, I think i would have been better off without it.

Just got an e-mail from my friend:

"Listen to this, I downloaded XP SP2 and guess what it didn't work on my comp. Well I shouldn't say it didn't work but my desktop icons and my taskbar disappeared!"

I think I'll wait.

Worked fine for me... :)

It also stops downloads, unless you tell it to start them :)

*Pokes*

Apples (Macs) are PCs, silly. Personal Computer. Though they're not Windows. xP

(And unfortunately, Macs do crash. Seldom, but they do. (Of course, my computer's just old and icky, so that may be why it crashes.))

My apologies. I use the terms interchangably. I love macs *hugs it* I was a Microsoft PC devotee until yesterday when I checked out the mac operating system and applications.

I downloaded SP2 today. Other than the terribly long download and installation time, it's not to bad.

Yea, the installation was annoying..

Never noticed the download, came in on auto update. lol

Oh, and tell your friend about the icons. Try right clicking the desktop -> Arrange Icons By -> Show Desktop Icons

Might work :P

Nah, he fixed it already. That didn't seem to be it. He's good with computers, I don't think he'd be that dumb. :P

I dled it, and I had to format! It froze at the welcome screen, and only booted in safe mode. No restore point whatsoever.
