3D accelerators

Sat Mar 05, 2005 5:55 pm

Allrighty then, I tried asking this on the "Computer Help" thread, but I got no response. Probably because it's more of an opinion.

For the 3D games, such as Castle Battles and Dice Escape, it says something along the lines of "If you don't have a 3D graphics Card, you shouldn't play this cause it'll run slow...blah...blah...blah."

So...if I were to buy something, what would you suggest? (Cost is somewhat of an issue. I don't want to spend a gabillion dollars on something that I could buy more ice cream with. :P *yum...Ice Cream*)

If your PC isn't 8 years old, then you most likely have a 3D graphics card. But if you see the need for a new one, I recommend the ATI Radeon line. A budget card would be the Radeon 9000 and goes for less than $100.

*cough* My PC is...ancient. I don't happen to have a real deep pocket, so me mum got one at a work sale for $40. It didn't even have a sound card. I've upgraded it so many times that I started losing the screws to hold the tower thing together and I had to find new ones. :P

But anyways, thanks. I'll look that one up. *scribbles the name down*

ATI is always good, and Nvidia is prety good too. ATI Radeon X300 or higher is a good choice, but for your situation... you only need it for those Neo games right?

Pretty much, though I'm sure I can find plenty of other games to use it for.

Top of the line, new games or old games? Examples would help. :)

*shrugs* Probably nothing too new.

And if I don't use it that much anyways...

oh well.

*pokes eBay*

There's a person selling a "NEW ATI RADEON 9000 64MB DDR VGA SVID VIDEO CARD" for $15. Sounds good to meh.

That's always good :P

If you only need for Neo, then may I recommend an ATI Radeon 7500. It will proably be $50 or less.

Before you go out to buy a video card, make sure your motherboard has an AGP slot. If you get an AGP video adapter and your motherboard doesn't have AGP, that's not going to do any good unless you buy a new motherboard. If you don't have AGP, you will likely have PCI slots, and will probably have to go for a PCI video adapter.

Keep in mind that buying a powerful video adapter for a very old PC will not make your computer go very fast, because then your CPU and RAM can't keep up with its performance.
