Is There A Way To Speed Up Dial Up Connections?

Fri Dec 10, 2004 9:59 pm

My Grandpa Has MSN, and I was wondering if there's a Program Somewhere on the Planet we call "World Wide Web" That can speed up dial up connections?

You will NEVER get above 53kbs (donwload on a 56k modem). Another factor restricting speed, at leat in my area is the bandwidth amount of the lines. When i used to use dialup, the max possible to get was around 30kbs because of the lines.

Anyway, I know there are programs that speed up web viewing cause it keeps the cache. But that won't make a difference on pages he has never seen.

FCC regulations limit the speed a 56k connection can go. It can never go above 53.3kbps (kilobits per second). Though there aren't any ways to increase your transfer rate (except for upload rate; V.92 protocol increases upload speed by a bit), you can optimize it. This can be achieved by tweaking the MTU setting and other settings to reduce ping time and packet loss.
