...Twitchy, you are aware that both of those interviews are from before OotP, right? One's an interview before GoF, too. o_O

Er. Anyway.

New GoF film news. Though it is unconfirmed, it sounds realistic, if disappointing.

(Following copied and pasted from this HPANA page)

What's been cut:

The SPEW storyline
Opening scene with the Dursley’s
The Hogwarts express (there are shots of it, but nothing in the train,)
The wand weighing

What's still in:

Creepy opening scene with Voldemort, Wormtail and Nagini
The Dark Mark scene
The "Potter Stinks" bit, the skrewts, the horntail challenge
The merpeople challenge
The final challenge, although the spider may NOT be in it
The Sphinx, Dobby, Winky, the Portkeys, Crouch freaking out, the Pensieve scene and Cedric's end

Things that are drastically cut:

Yule Ball
Quidditch World Cup
Rita Skeeter stuff
Harry stressing over the egg clue
Snape scenes
Hagrid & Maxine love story (it's there, but just reduced to a few brief moments for humor)
Dumbledore's humor

SPEW's been cut. It's been cut. WHY? Perhaps it wasn't important to the plot, but hello. It at least made Hermione more Hermione. Unlike that Mary Sue creature that emerged in PoA. >_>

Hagrid and Maxime's romance has been mostly cut? Again, why? It won't make any sense when the two bring back Grawp, as they'll barely know each other, for the sake of humour. And how will Rita discover Hagrid's giant secret (literally), if the love story's only humour?

They left in Potter Stinks and the Sphinx, yet they cut SPEW, the Dursley's, most of the World Cup, and most of the Yule Ball (no Pansy, Parvati or Padma, so why even bother filming it?).

And why have they cut out the majority of Dumbledore's humour? The reason he's Dumbledore is because he's an old guy with a sense of humour, and a great deal of optimism. The optimism and humour go hand in hand. What'll they do now? Have him walk around the school telling everyone they're going to die, and that the filthy mudbloods will be killed first?

Other than those things, I'm fine with the other cuts.

Awww, I loved the first bit with the Dursley’s :(
I wonder if they have cut the veelas... o_O
They better not have cut Dumbledore too much! He rocks

I honestly don't mind them cutting out lots of stuff. As long as there will be a Director's Cut version with everything they cut out.

But yeah, that won't happen.

I'm actually really happy they cut out SPEW. Don't know why, but that whole storyline gives me a bit of a headache. o_O

With the exception of SPEW, I think they made wise decisions about what to cut out. Most of that stuff wasn't necessary. I'm glad they are keeping all the Triwizard Tournament tasks.

If they are going to cut so much out of a movie why bother making it at all? The only exception beign SPEW, event though it is vaguely important It just too irritating for me.

Because it's just not possible to follow a book line for line. It would be 18 hours long. They need to cut things they feel fit. Personally, I haven't had any problems with them cutting anything fro the first 3 movies, with the exception of the Sorting Hat Song (I just really wanted to see that), the Deathday Party, and the explaniation about the Maurader's Map in movie 3.

It is possible to follow the book, even if it's not line for line. (which would also be possible) So what if it is 18 hours long? Sure, making the movie would be a lot more expensive. But they would earn all of it back anyway.

It's about profit, not about the fans.

But who, besides the true fans would sit through an 18 hour movie?

I would watch it, but I'm SURE my parents, my friends who don't really like the books, and other random people that go see the movie just because its HP, would not sit through 18 hours of a Harry Potter movie.

Edit: Oh, I know it's possible to follow the books. That's what they did in the first three movies. My parents who didn't read any books, got through the first two movies fine. They were only a little confused in the 3rd movie during the Mauraders Map scene. Which I do feel they should have put in. But you have to make sacrifices when you make a book into a movie.

Eep! I wasn't talking about 18 hours here, I was think perhaps they release their dumbed down 2 hour version in the cinemas and release a 4 hour version on DVD, that way you make lots of profit.

I dont know if this has already been mentioned, pardon me for not reading through 8 pages of "I THINK TEH HAF BLUD PRINCE IZ.." but isnt it possible that hermione could be the half blood prince, and that she's actually a gender confused boy? My theory anyway.

I saw some eastern guy reading a harry potter book with an odd dark blue-weird cover, is that just how book 5 or whatever looks in japan or something?

That would be the American version of book five:

Even a three-four hour movie would be reasonable, if they could keep in more stuff.

My opinion:

I would rather have a movie with a lot cut out and a long and beautifully done scene with Harry in the graveyard with Voldemort.
I would rather have that, than to have everything squeezed in in a mediocre fashion.

I've read through the first 7 pages without saying a word but now that I know what is to be cut i can't help myself....

I liked the SPEW part because my friends call me Hermione or at least a few do and I quite could relate to her and I can't believe they cut out a part that is remotely related to the way she feels about things. Also I don't like that they are cutting out of Hagrid and Maxime...that'll just be odd.About the Cutting out of the Yule ball and Dumbledores humor thats like murdering a whole storyline...I mean who is Dumbledore without his humor?Huh?..huh huh? Some of you may be happy with some cuts or just okay but this kinda annoys me...beciase to fit important info in for the 5th movie they will have to cut alot... :( oh well I guess I can't do much to stop them.

Mon Aug 23, 2004 3:18 am

I hope they don't cut too much of the World Cup. I really liked that part. They better have the dark mark part because that is important, in my opinion. I don't really care about SPEW though, cut all you want haha.

I hope the book is good, it looks like it should be. I hope she doesn't take forever to get it published either, yea may sound selfish but I really want to read that book lol.

If they cut out the bloody "chamber-pot" room mention I'll be mad, since it is a MAJOR part of OotP!!!!!!!

Also, I hope its not like PoA in ONE respect: Adding all this crap while leaving out important stuff, like adding the boys-acting-like-animals scene but leaving out the bloody Marauders Map Explanation. If they do that I'll be MAD...
