Grave of the Fireflies.

Subbed, as well.

I had a few comments I felt vindicted to share regarding this movie, the Second Great War, and the current attitude of the Japanese towards the reality of it, but this is not the best place for it, and it'd probably help lead to a thread hijacking, and offend many people, anyway.

I think Seita should have swallowed his pride and went back to his aunt; if not for his sake, then for his sister's.

Hana Yori Dango Live Action 2, not exactly anime, but it was based off an anime, and it's pretty good so far.

Downloaded what I thought was Bleach 63 the other day but it wasn't even anime, I was not pleased :(

You should know that Bleach, Naruto, and pretty much everything is on hiatus for another few days to a week.

I watched Solty Rei 05, 06, and 07.

Um, episode 23 is done now, I think.

I've been getting all of Ayashi no Ceres because I only saw a Chinese subbed version of it and could never understand it. I haven't started watching that yet.

Any good suggestions for what to watch next?

Sounds intelligent and complicated, though; like something Abraham Lincoln would watch.

Hyperion wrote:I disagree; there are animes with good dub, just how many I'm unsure, but I doubt that they're as much a minority as many anime fans conceive. Ever watched the dubbed version of Kiki's Delivery Service? It featured the voice acting of Kirsten Dunst and Phil Hartman, both who performed exceptionally, and most everyone else, if not everyone else. I haven't seen the dubbed version of Nausicaä, but I've read the list of voice actors, and it has an impressive line-up, as well as the aforementioned; among them is Patrick Stewart (Dune, Star Trek) and Edward James Olmos (neo-Battlestar Galactica). Just by knowing they were cast, I find it hard to believe that the crew for the translation has little or no care about their dubbing quality.

I can also turn around and say there's crappy sub voice acting. How often? I don't know, but quite a few animes even though I've not seen many subs. For one, the voice actor for Claus in Last Exile sounded like a female or a guy who was hit in the crotch, and so does the voice actor for the subbed version of the Rurouni Kenshin movie, if memory serves.

Also, and back to Nausicaä, I don't know how systematic this thorough editing in the dubbing process is, but the only major name I've read come up is Cartoon Network. Nausicaä has been horribly edited into dub by a company I don't recall, if memory serves, but I know Disney's take (the one featuring the voice actors I've mentioned) stays true to the original in great extent if not completely.

Note I'm sticking to the question of dubbing, not misc. editing.

[Edit 1, 2, 3, and 4] So many typos and things to add. x.x

Well said. though i still would rather watch an animation with its original voice actors, on the basis that the voices were made for them. Take an animation like Toy Story, Hercules, or the Simpsons, mix it up with japanese dubbing, and i don't think the voices will match right. I know stuff like that is too be expected from old Kung Fu movies, but animation? meh...

it's all good though. just cause i don't have a preference doesn't mean i can't enjoy something different. HUZZAH! :D
