Linky linkyTwo films apparently, with Jackson wanting to include elements of backstory he missed in LOTR (The white council, for example)

Naturally this was front page news in New Zealand. They say 'resolved' but I haven't heard anything of the sort. Did New Line or Peter Jackson cave?

All it says is that all litigation has been settled.
I'm assuming it means that one party has realised they had no leg to stand on and stood to lose a whole lot more if they didn't settle.

Despite being in the contract, New Line refused an auditing, similar resaons for the writers strike now - undisclosed DVD sales and the like. If Peter Jackson gave up, it doesn't bode well for the future.

Considering the money they made, I honestly don't see Jackson having given up, Nor going back to newline if they hadn't given him the money owed.
And considering the slamming New lines latest offering has taken (I refer of course, to the His Dark Materials film, whatever you wanna call it), My guess is it went something like;
New Line one year ago: Screw Jackson and his furry footed freaks, we've got the "His Dark Materials" trilogy!
New Line two weeks ago: Somebody get Jackson on the phone. Give him whatever he wants.

personally im glad that they are actually making this movie. I think it would fill in alot of fans of the movies who never read the books. So Im just glad they're going ahead with it, whether or not peter jackson is filming it or not.
