Almost all sets have back grounds. Oh, dear set makers, where do you get them! I want to make a set, but I am back ground deprived.

Backgrounds are generally made by the set makers themselves. Try fooling around with the colours or the filters your program has.

If you use photoshop, there are some decent tutorials herefor creating interesting background effects. If your using PSP maybe someone else has some suggestions, sorry to say I'm a PS addict myself

Get yourself some decent brush packs and mess with them:p That's how I learned. Do you have PS or something like that?

Most definately, brushes are the way to go. Or if you have PSP play with some textures, recolor them and then screw them up and stuff.

Well, if you want something specific, then search in google, boys.com has great abstract designs that you can make backgrounds out of. If you are going to use an image for the background, I suggest you change the color of it or something to make your set match more.

I make backgrounds on PSP a lot (for sets, for desktops, for other graphics) and I never use brushes. I usually start by floodfilling with one of the built in patterns on PSP, then filling over it with either a solid colour or one of the built in gradients, using texture so that the pattern behind remains visible.
Then I start messing with various effects. Ripple, Twirl, Chrome, Kaliedoscope, Wave, Hot Wax Coating, etc. Until I get a look that I like. Then, if need be, I colourize it.

Play with all the effects in the program that you use and see what you can come up with.

I use a variety of methods: brushes, gradients, filters, effects, patterns, etc. Sometimes you can take a picture or two and mess with the blends, along with filters and all that junk listed above. Just experiment.

I make mine with the fur setting and confetti preset on PSP 8. I've also used picture tubes too.

Where can I get brush packs?

You can get brushes everywhere. There's a link to a ton of them in the tragic_muse community

You can even create your own brushes in PS if you have a version that supports it. You define selected areas as a brush by going into the edit menu, you can define patterns or brushes that way.

Making backgrounds for sets isn't too hard.

Once you get those brushes, just begin tinkering around with them. I make mine by filling the image with a colour and then choose a lighter or darker colour and using the brushes all over the image.

Wow. o_O I've barely ever used brushes for backgrounds - just didn't occur to me, I guess. Personally, I either fool around with PS filters and layer blending, manipulate whatever background comes with the image, or find a suitable background through Google or something and edit it. A lot of the times, when I can't neatly cut out an image, I'll just recolor the background and blur it a bit, and then put some custom shapes or sparkles on top.

Maybe I should try out this brush thing...XD
