Microsoft buyout Nintendo?

Sat Aug 21, 2004 6:05 pm

This evening at the AOU show in New York, Microsoft confirmed their takeover of gaming giants Nintendo. The move will see Nintendo developing exclusivly for Microsoft, Xbox Next, in what seems to be a crucial next generation console war. Microsoft representitives were keen to stress that key members of the Nintendo game development team would be staying with the new joint group.

From another Forum.

Is this a good thing or bad thing?

BAD BAD BAD! Why does M icrosoft have to buy out everything, it just smurf me off. Nintendo was my favorite company and, I don't even like Xbox, great...but is this comfirmed?

It's neither good nor bad, seeing as it's not happening.

If this poorly-constructed rumor were true, it'd be mentioned everywhere at major gaming sites. The fact that it hasn't means that it is indeed a poorly-constructed rumor, and nothing more.

You shouldn't believe half of what you see in real life, let alone the internet.

is there anything microsoft isnt going to eventually own?
itll expand the range of products you can put in a nintendo gamecube. aka shrink the market so theres a bigger chance youll buy microsoft than anything else.

Aha.

Nintendo owns the vast majority of the gaming market in Japan, where as the x-box has flopped horrendously. In japan.

Microsoft buying Nintendo? Look, someone wrote gulliable on the ceiling!

Haha.

That's like, total nonsense. If you find me a source other than some forum, I might believe you. xD

Not true :P

Also, wouldn't it say that they had been taken over on the Nintendo website? Anyway, nintendo wouldn't sell to Microsoft. Nintendo have millions of diehard fans who would turn away to Sony if Nintendo was taken over. And you can't forget that Nintendo were around way before Sony and Microsoft (games console wise) and is the leader in the hand-held market, and even the PSDP will have a hard time to knock the GBA and (soon) the DS off of the throne.

Whoever told you that is really full of themselves. Nintendo still has millions of dollars. Most of it comes from, probably, the most sucessful system ever: the GBA. Plus, it's income increased when it lowered the GC's price to $100.

Besides, the GC is still more popular than X-Box.

GBA the most popular? :P Meh, I don't know. But I -think- the normal Game Boys were far more popular at a time than the GBA is now.

Definitely fake news so I think either someone got that fake news from a website that makes up fake news stories or the person on the Forum which Ammer got the news from made it themselves.

I didn't say this was true. Hence why I put a question mark in the title of the board. I did get it from someone on a Forum therefore I confirmed it here.

But you said "Is this a good thing or a bad thing?"

That implied that you thought it was real.

This is a load of tripe *bring load of tripe to compare the two*

Microsoft has been wanted nintendo for a while because they think that their console will be more successful with only one other compeditor but nintendo has repeditively made it clear that they aren't listening.

I thought it was real yet I did not say it was. But at the same time I was asking a question. That statement was purely what I thought.

Actually, I kind of heard the opposite. Microsoft is interested in the handheld market, but has no plans of making it's own system. It IS considering making games for the DS. This was from Game Informer Mag. the August issue. Pretty reliable source for rumors.
