Killing people makes you an idiot. Saying your religion tells you to when it does not makes you an idiot. Trying to justify you killing people makes you an idiot.

People believe all kinds of horrible things with a passion, Hitler believed passionately in killing jewish people, people who commit genocide believe passionately in what they are doing, paedophiles believe passionately that they can't help themselves yet don't ask to be locked up, many men around the world believe passionately they have the right to abuse their wives as their property.

Believing in something doesn't excuse anything.

And why is it so important to "admit" they believe in it? I don't think anyone doubts someone has to believe in what they are doing to blow themselves up. Whether or not they believe in it is neither here nor there, they are murderers, mass murderer at that and their "reasons" are false. It is not in their religion to kill people.

You've just pretty much called tonnes of people 'idiots', including the population of all the world armies, Moses, Jesus, Rama and others. I think you're being a tad childish throwing the word 'idiot' around like that. Plus, you are calling what paedophiles believe in horrible, which is incredibly discriminatory.

You're not saying "corrupting" children isn't horrible, are you?

Some things really are horrible, whichever way you look at it. And it has to be called by what it is.
Nobody said we have to tolerate and like everything.

I agree, nobody did. But peadophelia is the persons preference. They cannot help it, and so how is it horrible?
Child abuse, I agree, is horrible.
"corrupting children", as you put it, is horrible.
But peadophelia is not, by any means.

I wonder why people get sent to prison for it then, whenever they "express their preference"? o_O

Surely you must hate someone? right? You'd prefer it if they just didn't exist. That doesn't make you horrible. But if you went and killed them, you'd be sent to prison...

I don't think your going to win any arguments by trying to justify that paedophiles are not horrible. Furthermore I used it as an example much like I and another used Hitler as an example. No need to go even further off topic on such a sensitive topic anyway, and I really don't think anyone wants to debate how "horrible" or how much of a "preference" paedophilia is. Whether I think people who kill, and by kill I meant indiscriminately and without justification, ie murder like I said, it is my opinion. And yes I do think people who do all that I said are horrible - the courts agree with me funnily enough. And I would thank you not to call me childish when you have deliberately read more into my words than I intended.

I am very relieved that no one was hurt yesterday as from what I have read on the beeb it seems like the explosives only partially went off. It is very scary that such a thing could happen only two weeks after the bomb blasts and I'm not surprised some tube drivers are getting very nervous. It's all very well to talk about staying calm but I would like to see some indication of what security measures are going to be taken and when exactly the legislation is going to change.

The courts don't agree with you in that peadophelia isn't illegal

I think it's awful that Cobra haven't appeared to have done anything towards stopping this sort of thing happening again. I'm glad there's only been one injury, my uncle was crippled by the bombs two week ago.

Acting on it is, and it seen as far from normal. Frankly I think it's an extremely distasteful subject to even be discussing so how about not doing so.

sorry, it's just I know a peadophile from my work, and I know he's completely normal, so I try to protect them from people who discriminate. Anyway, back onto topic...

the inhernat problem with the secret services is that you only hear of their failures...

Well, as pointed out numerous times in the previous 11 pages of this thread, Brits are used to bombings and attacks on civilians, though not necessarily of this scale.

My guess is that most Londoners are right now quietly chuckling at this bunch of poltroons who couldn't get this attack right.

Fri Jul 22, 2005 4:28 pm

Suicide bomber shot dead, CCTV footage of other suspects involved with the bombings.

Gah.

As for the now rather tiresome "belief makes it all better" arguement, it doesn't. People believe that commiting murder is fine - it's not. End of. I can see the point regarding their absolute faith in something, and taking it to the extreme, but murder is something that can never be condoned.

Absolute power corrupts absolutly.
similarly, Absolute faith corrupts absolutly.

when you belive that your god/gods has your back no matter what you do, it tends to make a person a little nuts.

i know my sister was totally unimpressed, didnt even feel the need to phone and say... well, what she said last time is unimportant.

Many of you are going on about how little the country has done, but, what do you actually expect them to do? What would you do if you had the power?

Fri Jul 22, 2005 9:47 pm

me personally?
i would carve an empire from the stars, but i always did have grandiose dreams.

im happy with what our secret services have done.
the only problem with them is an inherant one.
we only hear of their failures, not when they stop the dirty bombs, but when some stupid git sets off a low-yield explosive.

edit: in other news islamic nutjobs threaten more attacks until we stop sticking our noses in where it dont belong.
yeah. threaten a super-power.
theres a good idea.

Have detectors set up on the tube system like in the airports.
