well the switched it back to where you need a code.
EDIT: well apparently in the last hour or so they switched it to code-free. And I've been begging for a code all week long.

Wait, I'm confused. What are you talking about? As far as I can tell, Journalfen's still not allowing free account creation.

About five minutes before posting my last message on this topic, I was able to create an account successfully. Now I'm confused too

I don't understand this at all. I click on "create journal" and it asks me for a code. What are you guys getting?

And I worked it out, apparently they opened free account creation for a few hours. Guess I was just lucky.
