Yay I got a new pet!
It's a Red Knee tarantula called No Face and it's really really cute
My friend had to get rid of it so she gave it to me.
She is very friendly and doesn't mind being held.
I'll get a pic when my pc is working I'm using my Dad's laptop a the moment.

oooh, I have a pink-kneed tarantula called Tera! I keep mine in a huge tank and I got it about a year ago, I'm suprised it lived this long, anyway, congrats on your new Tarantula!

Does it hiss or make strange noises?

Oooh, cool! I almost got to hold a tarantula once in school... but they were afraid that the girls would freak out and drop it or something.

I would never do such a thing, unless it started to slobber or something, which I know it can't!
Congratulations, and I can't wait to see a picture of it.

That happened when I was in 5th grade! The teacher had a tarantula he was going to bring it to be the class pet, but some of the girls freaked out at the mere IDEA of having one in the class. (I didn't though *pouts*) So he decided not to bring it because he didn't want someone to drop it.

Go ahead and post pics, but post them as links. I'm arachnaphobic, and you can guess what seeing a large tarantula can do to me.
Anyway, congrats! It's certainly one of the more interesting pets you can have. What do you feed it?

Yeah, links. I'm more afraid of the spiders with the creepy long skinny legs, but they're still spiders! XP
Anyway, congrats on your new pet. Tarantulas are cool... but it'd take a lot of convincing and maybe some money to get me to hold one. =P

I used to have one. Mine was fed a couple crickets a week. It was so cool if you were watching when the tarantula caught one. They normally just chill out in a corner because it takes so much effort to move (my friend told me that they don't have muscles like we do, but it is more of a hydrolics system), but when they catch something, they use their legs to sense the vibrations the cricket is making in the ground, and then pounce on it before you can blink. Then they sit there for another 2 hours while they digest the inards of the cricket.
Anyway, a few other people have mention concerns about dropping tarantulas. The reason you have to be really careful about dropping them is if they fall from a height of more than a foot or so, upon impact the force upon their legs will crack open their abdomen (the place where the legs join on the abdomen is the weakest spot on them) and they will either instantly die, or slowly bleed to death from the injury.
Congrats Floella! Mine used to be a Stripe Kneed. He was a bit too agressive to hold though. I'll be getting another, probably a Rosehair as soon as I'm out of college and don't have pet restrictions thrust upon me. My boyfriend doesn't like that idea though. We'll probably be married by that point and he doesn't want the thing around the house. *sigh* Tarantuas are so misunderstood.

Don't they eat crickets or something like that?

Anyway, congrats, and I have always wanted one, even though I hate spiders, turantulas don't bother me a bit.

You have a tarantula as a pet

Spiders scare the hell out of me... I would rather have a cute fluffy kitten.
I heard tarantula's are quite "fluffy" too though, are they really?

You know, a tarntula that big could be good eatin'
In some countries, they take spiders(namely bird-eating spiders), cut off their legs, thorax and head. And then on a little barbecue, they barbecue the parts.
It's said the spider tastes like shrimp. Eat yours! Find out how it tastes!

Held a large spider at an Ugly Bug Fair once. It was fairly enjoyable until the gentleman behind the counter explained that the act of rubbing its hind-legs together that the spider was performing is intended to release irritant hairs onto my skin in an effort to force me to let it go. If this failed, it would probably bite me.
I put the spider down.
