What should I do for highschool?

Sun Feb 06, 2005 8:25 pm

I know I want to go to my town's arts academy, but I don't know if i should major in foreign language or in theatre. I don't want to do either of those for my career, but I love acting and languages. I don't know what to do, and the auditions are on Saturday the 19th, not much time to practice! Please help me!

I'm sorry, but that shows that you probley shouldn't try for thouse if you don't want to go into thouse paths. I didn't know you could major for high-school, though.

It's a magnet highschool, and I want to be a marine biologist, which I can't study because I live in Las Vegas. I just figured I should do what I love for highschool, and major in what I want to work in in college.

I'll presume you meant college at the end.

One thing about college is that no matter how much you want to do something, if you don't have a good grounding in the basics of that particular field, then you'll be pretty miserable in college.

I don't know how your magnet high schools handle education programs for fields that they aren't magnets for - so I don't know how well you'll manage to learn things like chemistry, physics, and biology in high school. But I know that if you don't at least have a basic handle on them coming out of high school, then you'll have to take a lot remedial classes in your first year of college or you'll have to take courses during summers.

That said, if you really enjoy doing something, why not make it your career?

foreign languages will help you more in scientific fields. theatre will help give you confidence.

of course you should major in things that you don't want to make a career in. life is short--do the things you love while you can.

What Skizzy said!

But... if you don't KNOW what you want to do... Theatre is DEFINITELY funner usually. Most of the foreign languages classes I've taken are so condescending it hurts. Most theatre teachers actually have a sense of humour... it's also a good mix of activity and... inactivity, yah.

Well, learning a foreign language can come in handy for studying ocean life off the coast of foreign lands....
