Hello all! I have made a guide of 10 things to avoid on Neopets. These 10 are in no particular order of importance, but if you don’t want to be hacked/scammed/frozen, I suggest you avoid the following 10:
1) If you are on the message boards and you see a board called something like “My pass is google5” for instance
Ok, if you ignore it, you have lost nothing and you made the right decision. If you do decide to login to their account, yours may get frozen because the person will report you for hacking. Don’t, under any circumstances, login to any other Neopians account unless you have permission. It is a definite nono. If in doubt, always say no!
2) Once again, you are on the message boards and you are in a topic and someone posts something like the following:
“Copy this message into 10 boards then go to Faerieland and you will win 10million neopoints!”. Never do it. You will get frozen for spamming and you will not get your account back. I find it useful to just *overlook* messages like these!
3) You are visiting someone’s shop and you see a Mau Codestone for 1np.
You click on it and look! you have to login. Hastily logging in before it goes away, you login to this page and you are once again in their shop. But the Mau Codestone is still there. You click on it and it asks you to sign in. STOP. This is a scam for many reasons:
a) The login page is a scam to get your password.
b) Who in their right mind would sell a Mau Codestone for 1np when it can sell for 20K?
c) You will never get the item for 1np. It will continue asking for you to login forever.
If you did login to this page, I suggest you change your password ASAP and if some items are already missing, self freeze your account. It can stop the damage and when it gets unfrozen by yourself the hacker would have given up and then you change your password.
4) Someone neomails you asking for an unbeatable deal
200K for a Draik egg! WOW! They say to bid on “junk” then they will send the item to you. They won’t. This is a scam and you will lose your np. Don’t reply, just report them and get on with your life!
5) This is a very common scam
The person says to go to a link, signup for neopets, go to Faerieland and you will win np! NO NO NO!
You are being referred by that person and you will not receive anything, but the person who referred you would have won a prize. Although you won’t loose any neopoints doing this, it will unfairly reward someone else.
6) Someone neomails you with a “get rich quick scheme” to get a 1 million in 20days
How? Create x amount of accounts and use all of them to earn np. This may work for a small time, but TNT will find out and freeze ALL your accounts, even if they weren’t used to earn np.
As soon as you tell that person that you’ll do their scheme, they will report you and you will get your account frozen for “using multiple accounts to play flash games”. There is no way in the world you will get your account/s unfrozen, as you willingly took part in the scheme and no staff member will believe you.
7) Tricking the server
In some sites outside of neopets, some people will tell you that you can “trick” the server. They tell you to send a code, containing your username and password and the username of the person who you want to hack.
If you send this “magic code” you have just given away the “key” to your account and if your np are stolen, they may not be returned. For example, say I gave away the keys of my house and my address to a complete stranger on the street. They can just open the door to your home and steal anything they want. This is the same to the “magic code” scam. Your np and items will be stolen and you may not get them returned.
8) Neositting/Petpage codes/Account sharing
If someone neomails you offering Neositting services, offer to make a lookup/petpage code, or ask to share your account, they will tell you to send them your password and they will “look after/share” your account. They won’t. It is a scam and they will steal your np. If you do send them your password, I suggest you do one of the following:
a) Change your password
b) Self freeze your account and reactivate when the coast is clear (usually a few months later). If you haven’t given them your np, then report them. That is the best option as chances are they will get frozen.
9) Giving away your email
Never give out your email on the message boards, particularly is its a hotmail account, as they are easy to hack.If you really want to talk to someone on msn whos on the neoboards, tell them an account which you DON’T use for Neopets.
If you give out your Neopets email account (the one which your password will be sent to), the person can easily hack into your email and request your password then, byebye neopoints! There is also another reason. You can get frozen for giving out your email account, as it is against the T&C “Neopets is not a dating agency”. “Friend making” is considered the same as dating, so you can get frozen.
10) The last and final thing to lookout for: Game glitches
If you find a glitch in a game, DO NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT! Instead, send a bug report to Neopets and they will fix it up. Taking advantages of a glitch is against the T&C, and you will get frozen.
So that sums up the 10 things to lookout for. To summarize, these are the 10 in short:
1) Logging into someone else’s account
2) Spamming & copy and paste chain messages
3) Logging into a fake login page
4) Trading not via the Trading Post
5) Referral Links
6) Get rich quick schemes
7) Tricking the server scams
8) Neositting/Account sharing/lookup page codes
9) Giving away your email
10) Game glitches
