Before the Eelika became the Eelika, it was known as a Petpet named '''Ruby'''. It was forced to flee [[Maraqua]], it's original home, when it was destroyed. With the [[Maraquan Petpets (Shop)|shop selling them]] gone, they were temporarily unbuyable until August 29, 2001, when [[the Rock Pool]] opened on [[Mystery Island]]. The Rock Pool never truly sold Rubies though, as the [[List of Petpet redesigns|change]] took place just before that shop opened.

During the time of [[Maraqua#Old Maraqua|Old Maraqua]], there was species of Petpet known a the '''Ruby'''. Shortly after the [[Destruction of Maraqua|destruction of Maraqua]], all of these Ruby Petpets were converted into Eelikas. Petpets that were attached to a [[Neopet]] during this conversion were not effected by the change. This means that there are still a few users that have a Ruby attached to one of their Neopets.  Whenever one of these remaining Ruby Petpets is removed from its Neopet, it is immediately converted into a Eelika.
It is not impossible to still own a Ruby. Any Petpet who was attached to a [[Neopet (species)|Neopet]] at the time of the change will stay the same until it is removed. This means only a very few people still have a Ruby.

The Eelika is an eel-like species of Petpet. They have to swim in cool water at least once a day, or their skin will dry up and become sore.

During the time of Old Maraqua, there was species of Petpet known a the Ruby. Shortly after the destruction of Maraqua, all of these Ruby Petpets were converted into Eelikas. Petpets that were attached to a Neopet during this conversion were not effected by the change. This means that there are still a few users that have a Ruby attached to one of their Neopets. Whenever one of these remaining Ruby Petpets is removed from its Neopet, it is immediately converted into a Eelika.
