The '''Circle of Twelve''' is a group of powerful magicians who lived in Ancient [[Neopia]], featured in [[NeoQuest I]]. [[Xantan]] was the leader, and the rest of the group include [[Jahbal]], [[Kreai]], [[Gors]], [[Rollay Scaleback]], [[Archmagus of Roo]], the 5 guardians (Fire, Ice, Shock, Spectral, and Life magic), and [[Faleinn]]. They used to be good, but eventually became evil when [[Jahbal]] grew mad with power.

It fought and won a [[wikipedia:civil war|civil war]] against council members of the Neopian cities, culminating in the destruction of [[Kal Panning]], but shortly afterwards, many years before the time of the game, the members of the Circle of Twelve were killed and the Great Empire fell into disrepair.  


Xantan was exiled by the Circle Of Twelve, with most of his power stripped away. He has, since then, made a cave near Neopia City his home.

Being Mad, Jahbal decided to start a war against all others. Some of Empire's cities fell... others stood up to face Jahbal. So did the city of Kal Panning, and it's leader Faelinn.  
A thousand years before the events of [[NeoQuest I]], the Circle of Twelve were lead by the power wizard [[Xantan]]. However, after betraying the rest of the Circle, the other wizards stripped him of his powers and exiled him to the wilderness. He made the depths of [[Dank Cave]] his home.  


Eventually, Jahbal defeated Kal Panning's defenders, and turned the city's population into zombies. The other members of the Circle seen the error of their ways (and who they were allying themselves with), and decided to get rid of Jahbal. Jahbal, however made spyed on the Council members, and decided to flee to the Two Rings Castle.
==The Civil War==


The group of wizards decided not to hunt Jahbal down, for noone knew what arterfacts of power there were in his castle - and cast a sealing spell on the entire Two Rings Range. Nothing is supposed to make it throught that barrier - and at that, they settled.  
Some time after Xantan was ousted from power, the [[Eyrie]] [[Jahbal]] took over leadership of the Circle. Under his rule, the Circle became greedy and more powerful, and this provoked the city of Kal Panning to oppose them. After a month-long siege of the city, the Circle's magic proved to be greater than [[Faleinn]] and the city was cursed.  


Somehow, Jahbal has found a way to break through the barrier. Although he himself could never pass the barrier, his magic reached out to the outside world, and created monsters. The monsters, in turn, were ordered to hunt down The Empire's leaders - disabling the empire. Many fell, far more suffered; the seeds of destruction were sown.

They were finally defeated in the NeoQuest I game when the [[NeoQuest Hero]] defeated them and restored Neopia and made it peaceful.
However, after the costly engagement the other Circle members saw the error of their ways and sought to banish Jahbal, who had become mad with power. Jahbal made it his habit to spy on the other wizards, however, and fled to the safety of his [[Two Rings]] palace. Not knowing what magical artifacts he may be hoarding their, the Circle sealed off the palace from the rest of the world. Scholars such as [[Gali Yoj]] suggest [[Faelinn]] was instrumental in this act, despite having been cursed after the siege, and it is true that she possesses the only key to allow entrance to the Two Rings.
 
Jahbal's magic was over time able to reach through the barrier, however, and create monsters, first to assassinate the Circle members who had deposed him, and then to over run the Great Empire. Without leadership and with the danger of monsters in the country side, the Great Empire collapsed.

While it is never made clear which other wizards were part of the Circle of Twelve, candidates include the [[Archmagus of Roo]], [[Mastermind]], and the unnamed wizard who created the [[Mountain Fortress]] and the Guardians of [[Guardian of Fire Magic|Fire]], [[Guardian of Ice Magic|Ice]], [[Guardian of Life Magic|Life]], [[Guardian of Shock Magic|Shock]], and [[Guardian of Spectral Magic|Spectral]] Magics.
