"Best of all, it's completely FREE!"

This is the opening slogan on Neopets front page. Making premium accounts totally degrades all of us that relentlessly worked on our accounts. If it is what I think it is going to be, it means that premium users who pay an X amount of cash (or their rich parents who own a car dealership?:-p) are going to be making nps MUCH faster. With this implemented that means that a spoiled user could easily gain 100k in half the amount of days it would take say, the user who is on a cheap computer and their only income is from games since they are stuck on dial up. Neopets no longer would be about skill or devotion of time, but instead who can feed Neopets greedy palates for more money (as if they did not already feed their Christmas bonuses with the HUGE new advertisements?). This is a complete mockery. How is this any different than the users who buy their accounts on e-bay? None, except it goes to Adam and Donna. And just WHERE is the staff they said they would hire to improve the site?-[from the previous mentioned ad size increase]
On one of the recent advent calendars the entire staff drawing looked like the same old size as it use to be.

I have not heard anyone recently rave that "Oh getting a reply for getting falsely frozen was so much faster than before!" Sorry but I am still hearing people complain about the poor service.

Neopets is getting greedier as they bulk up their bank account. It's a sad sight to see something once so joyous and about nurturing a pet to its full potential on your own merit become another corporate paycheck. Funny how this use to be an alternative from the ever popular Pokemon but yet now they are so similar...

Neopets has been about the money for a while... Sadly, there isn't anything we can do...

I'm premium and I don't earn NPs -any- quicker than I did before. Yes, they care about money. If you had the opportunity to acquire wealth, you would as well. Yes, quality may be slipping, that happens. Should they work on that? Absolutely. More premium accounts really should have been made available for the holidays -- they've have made quite a bit of money.

And it doesn't degrade anyone. As I said, neopoints are not earned any more quickly, unless you are incredibly lucky. You get a "something has happened" neomail every 3 days or so, normally with a "You've won the lottery" type thing where you win 300-500 neopoints. Oh wow.

You get so little, in fact, that paying for premium is more of a donation.

They should just take that out so that people can't complain about it anymore.

Seriously, they've had premium for quite awhile now. I don't see why people are still complaining about it. I see more and more people wanting to sign up, so it must be pretty good. What's done is done. Complaining won't do much to stop TNT from having premium.

Think about this: At least they still have daily updates for free users and plenty of new content. It's not like they've said "Screw the free user database, let's make Neopets 100% pay to play!" Only then, do I think complaining would be justified.

Sorry, but your opinion is somewhat skewed:

"If it is what I think it is going to be, it means that premium users who pay an X amount of cash...are going to be making nps MUCH faster"

How so? It still depends on the internet connection you have, Premium doesn't give you access to a private restocking server.

"Neopets no longer would be about skill or devotion of time, but instead who can feed Neopets greedy palates for more money... How is this any different than the users who buy their accounts on e-bay?"

Again, where is this feature that supposedly exchanges real life cash for NPs? The details of Premium are somewhat sketchy, but th only thing of importance I can recall is that Premium users get a slightly increased chance of Random Events (whether that was a rumour or not, Im not sure).

"None, except it goes to Adam and Donna."

They don't own the site anymore, Neo has gone corporate.

"And just WHERE is the staff they said they would hire to improve the site?"

Do you know how much it costs to run a site with this many users? They updated their old servers (if you recall that massive shop glitch when they were moving shops to new databases).

"I have not heard anyone recently rave that "Oh getting a reply for getting falsely frozen was so much faster than before!"

OTOH I have heard Premium users say that TNT actually listens to them, and it is harder to get iced since you're paying for it. Also there is a Premium forum where there isn't all the clutter of the free boards, so staff queries could be answered quicker.

"Funny how this use to be an alternative from the ever popular Pokemon but yet now they are so similar..."

Well you know what they say about what happens when people get rich...they forget their roots. Thats why Pokemon died out.

EDITED TO ADD: Premium is what, $5 per month? Thats pretty much disposable income for anyone here...not only the rich, or as you say, "spoiled" players.

Just to build on what you've said Scream...

How can you tell whether or not there is new staff? The only way you'd be able to tell is if you went to the office, and asked for a show of hands of who was recently hired. If you ask me, there have been a lot of new things coming out over the past few weeks (which includes the hannah plot, which went very smoothly) so they must have hired some more people in order to get things done.

A lot of the graphics are drawn in a different style (with positive and negative feedback by people on PPT :P) so new artists must have been hired,. Certain monitors have quit so they would be replaced, and as you say the Hannah plot, which some BDers say happened TOO quick (as opposed to the Meridell plot which dragged on for months :roflol:)

Except quit, and I am too addicted to do that.

It's a good game--despite cockroaches crawling all over my page and the incessant glitches that steal items-- or else we wouldn't still be here. And, I know of many who have returned to Neo even though they were burned by an unjustified freezing. So, it must be a really good game if people are able to do that.

And, to tell you the truth, I have thought about signing up for Premium. It seems like a good thing. Like someone said before, $5 a month is pretty much disposable income--less than 2 coffees a month at Starbucks.

And, scream, I really don't want to pick a fight (shoot, ask me where I was on the Day of Action), but I think that the Advent Calendar animation is superb and that the people at Neo who put it together should be applauded for it. Granted there have been glitches, and a "new" or two, broken images on the gifts, and a flaming evil coconut that may get tossed into the Neopets office soon, but I don't have one complaint about the animation whatsoever (well, except for that poor Meepit being tossed into the kettle--poor Meepit! :( ). It is very well done and light years ahead of what we had last year.

I don't really understand your point of view, run. Neopets is still free and will always be free. No one is forcing you to buy anything or to pay $10 a month for Premium. And also, it doesn't give you very much, if any, advantage over other players. From what I've heard, all it is is basically a banner-free way to surf the site and you get to beta test a few things.

And Neopets HAS been hiring new staff, but at the same time, thousands and thousands of new players are joining every day. Running a site is not cheap, with paying graphic artists, programmers, monitors, product designers, paying for servers, and probably several things we can't even imagine. It's likely that none of us will realize just how hard it is to run Neopets unless we do ourselves.

I've been a premium member for 12 days and I've got a whooping 2k to show for it and a Bri codestone. If people were to go with your get-rich-quicker-by-having-premium theory, I'm afraid they would be severely dissappointed.

And I agree with the poster above, why are people still harping on about oh, they said it'd always be free but now they charge, boo hoo. Uhm, NO. It *is* still free! I'm the only one of my friends that pay for premium - I've got maybe 10 good friends on neopets, they all play for free. I chose to pay to get the annoying banner off and for curiosity's sake. Nobody is forcing you to pay so what are you all whining about? This puzzles me to no end, honestly!

Get over it already, neopets is still free.

edited for typos

thats gonna change soon
as neopets gets bigger their gonna need more money and tNT will realize they cant keeep getting money from premium users taht are getting a puny amount of NP of $5

and in the future Neopets may be free no more ......thas if they don't get anymore income for staff salaries and other things

if you want to know how many ppl are gonna leave neopets go to the polls and go to ""how much would you tolerate"" i made that poll myself

BUT if some many ppl do leave cuz of Pay 2 play then the neopets population might be drastically reduced

Um... no. Merchandise earns a lot of money, the ads literally pay Neopets money (each look at it and/or click on it gives the staff cash), and $10 a month from probably hundreds if not thousands of users... that adds up to a lot.

Is it just me or is run a troll with 10 different accounts? I also think this topic should get locked soon because I can seriously see this getting out of hand... *goes to get a mod*

Premium user here, still fairly new. It is now $7.99 a month. I have gotten 1k, each friday a space faerie sc - which I've won nothing on, and really no extra re's. We do get to beta test certain things which is nice. We do get an email - only other premium members would I ever use that for (my other RL friends would be like Wha???).

No ads - that's the biggest benefit. I am on dial up, I get no special 'privileges' for being on premium.

And yes, Premium members can and have been frozen - and have not gotten any special or preferential treatment. And no refunds.

So there is nothing I can see that really gives a premium member any extra clout or anything really special - aside from no ads and a private board, which is very quiet.
