Well, I feel more relieved about this after reading some of these posts...it's not as bad as I'd feared. I suppose this sort of thing was inevitable; after all, one can already gain an advantage in the game by buying Neopets merchandise for the rare item codes, or getting the special avatar from the coco roller phone thing, signing up with sponsors' sites for np, etc, etc.

But I feel that there should not be a 'members only' section of Neopets. The game won't be much fun if you know you're playing at a disadvantage to others. Unbalancing the game with premium services that make it easier for some to earn np would ruin one of the best things about Neopia: competition!

What? PAying? Is that a joke?
Grrh.. I won't spend 1 cents on this. Nada.

my gripe is the same as those who spoke against it. personally, if they want players to pay to use a webmail or other optional service, i am fine. it is
[q]Unique Random Events and Special Items for all Neopets Webmail Users [/q] that gets to me. basically, it is opening up a whole new can of worms. players now may not see the big deal...it may well be a few unique REs that don't give much advantage or special item that won't appeal to many. however, you can't discount that if the response to this paid stuff is lukewarm, they may have to come up with more incentives.

how about another "hidden tower" that only premium players can access? cheaper training schools?

I am getting really ticked off about this. I REFUSE to pay for anything on neopets. This is a load of junk. I will quit neopets if they do this!

I too want to know this. Is it free? Or is it part of the whole internet-rip-off thing? And what is it anyway?

The portal is basically set up like My Yahoo! (and other personalized pages like that) only with a Neopets theme (you have your stats and your pet stats among other stuff) I've only had access to the alpha version, but in general it's not worth paying for. I would only use it if they offered it for free (it's part of the webmail deal)

If you need an idea of what it's like

Now I really am confused. I thought the portal and toolbar were free, just use them if you want to. I just read through the article in the magazine again, and it says nothing about having to pay for it. If you have the magazine or can find it in a store, it's on page 55, titled "Making Neopets Easier!".

For me the portal is kinda Eh, you know? I have a homepage, I have a bunch of stuff in my favorites, so this isn't such a big thing. And I have a toolbar with my ISP. Don't need more stuff taking up screen space. Free, like using Yahoo, etc. as your homepage? fine. Paying for a homepage? Not such a good idea.

Neopets Premium

I'm not concerd about it at all, but I do not like the fact they are giving different items, avatars, etc. to premium members. I will probably sign up for it when many people agree its worth it, but I do not see anyone really agreeing on it.
Its not really fair for free users that premium members get specail items that normal members cant.

Neopets Front Page:
Neopets® is the greatest Virtual Pet Site on the Internet. With your help, we have built a community of over 70 million virtual pet owners across the world! Neopets has many things to offer including over 160 games, trading, auctions, greetings, messaging, and much much more. Best of all, it's completely FREE!

I disagree on the free part, its not completely free if you have to pay for something to get a certain option..

Errr... is it just me or is premium.neopets.com going back to the old page? o_O

My only concern is that neopets will allienate there core players who love the site and don't want to pay. If neopets decideds to make worlds that only premium players can get to thats not fair... I don't care if they get 1 new avatar... and a couple extra games and a tool bar and webmail but new worlds and stuff too thats just plain unfair!

oh well I suppose that is what the world is unfair... in any event I will not be paying for that service... I AM quite happy with my cable internet and would never pay for neopets...

If any of neopets does become pay for premium services they'll lose some people are at least have a slowdown in new people signing up. If I were a parent I'd be wary of letting my child sign up on a site that has a pay to play option because I bet my kid would want it.

NOOOO!!!! REVOLT! REVOLT! REVOLT! IF THEY EVER MAKE A PART OF THE NEOPETS WEBSITE THAT YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR I WILL SPREAD THE WORD TO PEOPLE TO STOP PLAYING! NEOPETS SHOULD ALWAYS BE 100% FREE!!! (except their merchandise...)

They said it would allways be free to play neopets. They never said they wouldn't creatre a premium service that people could pay for. Still I don't know why every bodys so botherd about it. I couldn't give a rats scabby toe about it.

EDIT: Looks like a lot of people will be quitting neopets when the release this then :D

What I find funny though. Is the amount of people saying "I wouldn't pay anything for neopets!" Yet you would go out and buy a computer game... Funny really. I'm just gratefull for 52 months of having something interesting to do in my spare time online and meeting so many great new people of all ages.
I don't see why everyone is so negative.

well, if you got a computer game absolutely free, and you played and played and sunk a lot of time into it, then you find out that there's this part of the game where you could get a powerblaster and other cooler weapons, but the catch being that you have to pay for access to em, it would get a little irritating .

But most people would have no problem buying that expansion. And it's not like there are "things that only premium service can get". They have access to the same site as you, it's just organized nicely in a little portal. If your on the internet, chances are you already have a good ISP, and do you really think you'd be able to use @neomail.com as your e-mail without being made fun of by friends? I know I wouldn't.
