Ok, this seems like a stupid question sort of, but can you scan photographs? I mean, I know it's possible, but does it come out well or at all?

Wed Aug 04, 2004 5:58 pm

Yeah you can scan photographs, I always did that before I got a Digital Camera

Ahh, that's good. I did some fan art for Captain SNES, but the digital camera was out of batteries, so we had to use the old fashioned one.

When extracting something from WinRAR.. it says... "CRC failed in filename.BIN. The file is corrupt". What does this mean?

Thu Aug 05, 2004 11:23 am

It means that there's an error in the file, if you downloaded it there might have been something wrong with the transfer.

It's corrupt. Sometimes you can fix it by redownloading it.. sometimes you can't.

Expanding on it you can try running a scandisk through the file, if that doesn't work there must be a problem with the file so an unfortunate restart of the while will have to be the only way out...

*pat pat*

.rar files make me go mad too...*glares at all her .rar files*

Erm... I just installed Firefox, and it's really easy to use, easy to learn and all, but I have just one problem: How do you view alternate text for a image?
I like to look at the descriptions of the items in Neopets this way, but it doesnt seem to work in Firefox. That bubble doesn't appear... I can't find it in the settings. Is there any way to view them?

I have the same concern :\.

I got the answer for you :) The code that Neopets use does not follow the W3C standard, alt="Here's that bubble" is not the correct way to display that bubble, alt= is to be used as an alternate text description for an image, if that image fails to appear, of for blind people who get's sites read for them, they can not see the image so they get the alt="text" read for them.

The right way is title="Here's that bubble" but I guess neopets doesn't use that.

Browsers like IE etc that does show alt= as a bubble is doing things wrong and doesn't follow the official web standards. Mail the neopet crew and ask them to add the title= (Or better yet, exchange alt to title where alt shouldn't be used) as IE and the other browsers understand title= as well.

Ehm, you that doesn't get what I'm babbling about: this is the code for an image in XHTML/HTML
<img src="the image.gif" alt="text to show if the image is not available, broken etc" title="This is the Image!"/>
Neopets left out the title= and used their tool tip popup in alt= instead, which is wrong :) The alt should still be there though, for the blind etc etc.

More about it here: http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_img.asp
and here: http://www.w3schools.com/tags/standardattributes.asp
"alt: Defines a short description of the image"
"title: A text to display in a tool tip"

Everything comes down to that Firefox is much more strict with following standards than IE. Which is a good thing, the error is in the code, not in Firefox.

Eh, yeah, I did understand. I probably should mail TNT 'bout it. I'm already in love with Firefox... <3

Edit: Never mind, I got pasting in Gimp to work now. I just had to click "Copy from clipboard"... I think I just didn't see that before. Should have looked more...

Phew :) I'm kinda bad at explaining things, usually results in alot of babbel, and then some more when I try to explain my explanation :D

About GIMP: Hmm, try to rightclick that window where you do your painting, you should get a menu with all the usual things that go in the upper left corner, File, Edit etc, and then to Edit and Paste :) Atleast that how I did in Mandrake Linux.

For the last two months or so, my computer sometimes unexpectedly restarted. I didn't think much of it at first, but it's progressively gotten worse to the point it probably shuts itself down four or five times a day. Does anyone know why this is happening? Sorry if I sound dumb. ._.

Having a problem playing some games on neopets. When I try to load it it says: 'This application requires an Xtra (flash movie...) that either does not exist or failed to initialized properly. Please make sure the appropriate Xtras are in the Xtra folder(s)' then it aborts the game. how do i get it to work?

Kinda hard to say, it could be hundred of different reasons, or a combination of all :S

Heat, viruses, spyware, malicious other programs, hardware errors etc.

Try taking the side of your computer away, letting cooler air in, and see if that helps. Also, run a virus check, update your windows on windowsupdate.microsoft.com, uninstall programs you don't need etc. Do a little cleaning :)
