I can certainly cohost or host a smaller game. I just don't have the time for the next few weeks.

I can host at any time; just give me time to write some roles. :)

Well the first thing we need to do is decide what sort of werewolf we will be hosting
Who's up for a narnia one?

In the good old days, there were a plethora of contests to participate and join. They were fun, I think that's what really kept me coming around. I think Neopets has long been dead and there isn't much chance for revival. It's not popular enough in general. It might be fun to try to migrate to a new game at once (say, kingdom of loathing).

*spontaneous resurrection*

Hey guys, long time no see (and long time never see, for many). I haven't posted here for a few years, mainly due to losing interest in Neopets, but I was fairly active a few years ago and have fond memories of PPT in its "heyday"... I've missed you guys :)

I'm not sure if it would work, but I wonder if we could start a forum that is... just a forum for random internetty types like us. Kym could pick a random name for it and we could all hang and chat about the kinds of things we've always chatted about. Movies, books, games, art, girl things, boy things, forum games...

The main problem I imagine would be getting new members, because people will always come and go. But maybe it would be easier than with PPT, as it won't be as focused on one topic (Neopets). People could drag their friends in more easily maybe.

Both of Werewolf's overseers are no longer part of this forum, so it is all right for you to start one. :)
If at any time you need help, give me a holler.

PPT certainly is dead. I know it is. Believe me, this is the first time I've strolled in for many, many months.
The deal with Neopets has a lot to do with it. As my inactivity on Neopets grew, so did mine on PPT. Now, the only time I ever go into Neopets is when I get an email saying my pets are out of the Neolodge.
And you know what? I log back on, put them back in the lodge, and then I usually click news. Read some of the neopian times. Maybe play a new game. All from an email reminding me.
I think PPT has to do something like that. Send out a "remember us?" email to all of its members and maybe some will come back, at least to pop in and say hello. And maybe some will come back the next day.

But I definitely agree that the forums have to scale back a lot on the Neopets sections and make the site a lot more well-rounded, general community that more people will embrace - old members and new alike.

Older members will also remember the Staff Sacrificers event on the old PPT database back in 2003. It was fun event that we had back then and if I remember correctly voting was done by everyone through a voting page with a dropdown list of people in it, Hunter Lupe hosted the event.

Oh my god I totally remember this! This was right around when I was joining and I remember voting solely for CSK to get voted off because I just didn't like his avatar. :P

Yeah. I've suggested that on another crazily inactive site *cough*DBA*cough* and I think it's a good idea. Although I barely come here anymore, I owe PPT so much. I've made bunch of great friends, and learned a lot from you all. Heck, I only frequent two forums now, and I would never have known of either of them if it weren't for PPT. So, though the site going down the drain wouldn't affect me properly, I'd still be really upset. I'm thinking sending out emails would be good, but only if there is something to keep them coming back to the site, like the arcade or more forums. (Not smore forums, as I typed. )

I think we have plenty of different forums to talk about almost anything in - the main problem is that there simply aren't enough people to post in them! We really need some sort of newbie zerg rush or something, which can't happen if we're stuck with the dying Neopets fanbase... but I'm so out of touch with these things that I have no idea what the new "in" online game is. Huh.
I do like the idea of a reminder e-mail - if anything that might make a couple old faces pop in for a quick hello.

I'm like Helena though - I've long since moved past PPT, but during my time here, it was a very special place to me. Seeing it die would make me legitimately very sad, but how can it be saved?

The users who made PPT what it was simply aren't here anymore and none of us seem to really have any incentive to come back. Neopets brought us here, and with interest in that faded, there's nothing to bring us back. And there probably won't be. We'd all have to find one common interest that would be big enough that we'd need a forum to discuss stuff, and I just can't imagine that happening if it hasn't happened already...

It is very sad. Though I do like popping in occasionally and remembering all the hours and hours I spent on here.

Another thing is, we need to consider the fanbase of the site which we want to open out to include. Since Neopets is a kids' site nowadays, if we incorporated elements of stuff like Gaia or Subeta (Just two random sites) the fanbase would be much different. Older, more... uhm, mature-seeming than most of the Neopets fans. XD Possibly removing the "Neopets fansite" stuff and turning into a generic chat forum would help, but we could still have an area on virtual pet sites including Neo so that the people who want to can have a place to talk about it.

I like that idea, because although we already have forums for other interests, there is such a big focus on Neopets and it is not our "heart" any more.

I guess the main two ways the forums like this get new people is through people recommending friends, or people stumbling onto the main website and then coming here. I'm thinking neither of those things happen much at the moment.

If we strip out the Neopets, though, or reform the forums elsewhere... we would need some sort of new direction and frontage. We could get a lot of people initially joining from here, but you do need new blood to keep it interesting and active when people are busy, so we'd need a bit of an online presence other than just the forums. And that could be a bit of work. But it could be cool :)
