I've never had problems with shots. Once I had to get three shots in one sitting for Tetanus, Hepatitis and Polio. I think probably the most important thing to prevent pain/soreness is to relax your muscles when you get the shot. However, I've never had any of those side effects. Sorry to hear about those. :(
