Fyora's Hidden Garage Sale what is that, I may soon New Member but I have never heard of that before. Is that one of the chat board imaginary places?

Its a super secret place that you can only access by paying for Neopet's soon-to-be SUPER DUPER GOLD ACCOUNT which is SUPER and is DUPER and only exists in my own imagination ;)

You are joking... right?

Yes, I'd like to see this statement from TNT that mentioned that they would always have the site free, every part of it.

It's a place only I have the key to. Hurry and send me all your neopoints and items and I'll let you in!

Actually, they have mentioned many, many times (through editorial and such) that keeping the site free is something they strongly believe in and when they decided to make Neopets they made the decision to always keep it free.

The commercial people who own Neopets are really messing it up in my opinion. I wonder if they will bother to announce this in the news?

EDIT: I find this picture amusing

Somehow, someway, spam will find a way to sneak through....

NeopetsĀ® is the greatest Virtual Pet Site on the Internet. With your help, we have built a community of over 70 million virtual pet owners across the world! Neopets has many things to offer including over 160 games, trading, auctions, greetings, messaging, and much much more. Best of all, it's completely FREE!

There, right from the front page under their banner.

I wouldn't touch this new "premium" service with a 10 foot pole. The ISP they've contracted with, in their TOS, says that they can (and I'm sure will) give (sell?) your information to third parties, who can sell to other third parties, etc., ad nauseum. Plus, I happen to think $35 a month for dial up is kind of expensive, it's at least $12 more a month than most dial up ISP.

The toolbar? I just don't like them. First of all you already have on if you're using an ISP, and many of these toolbars have hidden adware/tracking in them at least.

There is already a scam involving the email service. I lost the petpage someone posted on so I don't remember the pet name, darn it. But this person got an email using the new addy, looked very professional, and it was talking about the Premium service and how this person had been chosen to beta test it, etc. ... ended up being a scam to get their password and other information.

So if they're going to give more "goodies" to people who pay for these services then that is unfair. Not everyone will want to, not everyone will be able to afford it either. The game is kind of unbalanced already, the focus is on marketing, merchandise, etc. This? I thought the glophone was bad

lag, I started getting spam mail, curiously enough, from some of the sponsors (like sony) within days of signing up for the site, so no, I highly doubt that will change. So does my friend, who has her own email (uses my computer). She mentioned getting alot of junk mail so I asked her where she was going on the internet, she said neoitems and neopets. That's it.

Mon Aug 02, 2004 11:34 pm

Ha. They do say it's free. Well is it still free? If you want. What is everyone's problem?

Mon Aug 02, 2004 11:39 pm

hey guys, I think that is 39.95 a year, not a month.

Mon Aug 02, 2004 11:45 pm

Even 39.99 a year, I mean come on. First of all no ISP is that cheap. If it is you better believe someone is selling their customer list to help defray costs. And from reading their Terms, that's what it sounds like they'll be doing.

Oh I found another topic (from a couple of weeks ago) Neopets Toolbar...there's some information about this ISP company:

http://www.pinkpt.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... 0c3aa3c28d

Read the second page of the thread if you're in a rush (it's only 3 pages long anyway) and read SierraRaven's posts. They are extremely informative if you're thinking about signing up for this ISP.

I signed up for the free trial. I'm unimpressed. Honestly, I did it to see what kind of perks I could get for my neopets account. The avatar is the "I Love Neomail" avatar that probably everyone already has, they gave me something like 2500NP, and they say I'm "twice as likely to get random events if I use neomail.com daily." Frankly, I prefer my free Portal and email from Yahoo, and I really don't have a need to see my pet, items, stocks, etc all on one page. That's why I have Favorite Places saved on my IE. *shrug*

I'll most likely be cancelling my subscription, especially after I heard about them selling my information to 3rd parties. I hate spam.

Tue Aug 03, 2004 12:28 am

Twice the chance to hit good RE's but probably also twice the chance to hit bad RE's. Yeah $40 a year sounds really fishy for a service 5x as fast as Dial-Up. [/b]

Tue Aug 03, 2004 12:42 am

I don't think it has to do with random events on the site....

I got an email from tnt, which had a gigantic picture of a codestone, which said 'something has happened!... you found a mystical codestone' and 'click here to recive it!'

Tue Aug 03, 2004 2:22 am

shifty, what was the url when you put your cursor on that codestone? I'm just very leery of links and attachments in emails, especially after finding out people are using the neo email to try to scam people.

schnoz, write to unsub before your trial time is over. Just in general, it seems when you sign up for a trial and have to give credit card info, you end up having to fight with whatever you had the trial with and the credit card company. When you unsub, screenshot or somehow copy and save that you are not keeping this.

This doesn't surprise me and even if I was willing to pay for something from Neopets now, I couldn't. You see, my ISP is my phone co-op's control and they won't sell numbers or lines to people who violate THEIR terms of service. This meaning, no local number to dial, and so..

To pay them for something when their "free" site's support system sucks so badly is proof that the corporate mindset has sunk Neopets to a new level. Keep in mind that they might be running the same support staff, so... More work, more glitches.

There's an argument that there're so many people going on neopets that they need the new server to support them all... and that it costs money. I say, limit the people by doing what livejournal does... everyone has like, three special codes, and if anyone wants to join they have to ask a friend for one.
