I guess it's safe to say that a bunch of us grew up around the same time.

When I was a kid, there was no internet, kids mostly played outside. The biggest deal was the nintendo, when it came out around what...1985 or so? When I got one of those, I probably made the biggest mistake of my life, because I became addicted and less active. My sister never got into it.

Girls: Neon everything! Jelly shoes, Jelly bracelets, slap braclets, blue eyeshadow, layered clothing that didn't match. We used to put our hair up in poney tails and really frizz it a lot, especially the bangs. We thought we were sooo cool. That was when it the punk look was in. Then I remember when the grunge look took on, and even some of the girls started dressing like they just crawled out of bed. But most of the ones that did that, were not very feminie to begin with, and it was becoming more acceptable.

I didn't really thing about what boys wore back then, but it seemed like there were a lot more of things like stripped shirts, brown slacks or tan, and then these ugly shoes that didn't really match anything. Now if a guy wears slacks to school, it is either picture day or he is a nerd, but it was more common back then. Cordiroy and stuff like that even. I remember hi top shoes were really popular, and everyone really believed they helped us run faster or jump higher for some reason.

I remember I just didn't mature like the other kids. They were all into this show that was on at the time, that was sort of a toned down version of M TV, but it was on Nickelodeon and called Kids Rock or something like that. Then I never liked it. Music was just boring to me. I didn't really sit still long enough to really listen to the lyrics, I guess. I had no appreciation for it. Now I hear some of the songs from the 80's and love them, but back then, no, I could care less.

I remember the 80's shows had much less CGI as today. When I watch some of my old favorites, I see things that back then looked "so real" but now it looks so cheesy! Some of the programing, however was darker, and more mature it seemed, even cartoons. Kids understand a LOT more than people give them credit for, and can handle death and other topics better than people thing. Now every show has to have a moral and be all sugary sweet with a happy ending. Not back then. More blood and guts and violence, and we lived through it!

Aw man, tons of good (at least I thought they were good, hehe) shows came from that time. I was a huge fan of Maya the Bee and Littl' Bits, both of which are originally from Japan I believe. Then there is also David the Gnome. I think Noozles (Fushigi na Koara Burinkī in Japan) was one of my favorites as well.

This was back when Nickelodeon used to have semi-decent programming.

Ah. TV. Cartoons. All those things I was never allowed to watch. We were allowed to watch movies that we had on VHS, but absolutely no TV. (and you wonder why my coworkers say I'm not from this planet!)
And then you hit the 90s...and great shows like Gargoyles came around. I didn't actually get to watch it until about 3 years ago, but wow, wish they still made shows like that! (I'm really peeved that Disney put out the first half of season 2 on DVD but has no plans of putting out the second half )

Yeah well, Beast Wars will never be released in Region 2.

On the plus side, some... Inventive, tinkering with my DVD player can make it region free.

You know, just last night I was feeling really nostalgic and I found this one blog that I thought was interesting. But I didn't view all of it. Maybe you will like it. It is just one person's perspective of the 80's but it reminded me of a lot of stuff I had forgotten about that I had liked back then.

Then if you want to get something about what people did for fun way back when, this is a good website. I've actually seen some of these magazines at the old folks homes and doctor's offices and places like that. I always go for those, because the stories and pictures are so interesting, I think. I love to read about how people lived and see the pictures. Some of the love stories are so sweet and then there are some humorous ones too.

Ah, God bless David the gnome. I don't know that that qualifies as a fad, but I definitely used to watch it. Tiny Toons came out when I was in the 6th grade, and that was huge around my school.

I also started watching Roundhouse and All That, which you all may recall launched Kenan Thompson's career, when I was in junior high school. Of course, that came out around the same time as Animaniacs, which was big in the 7th grade.

Then Nickelodeon came out with Ren and Stimpy and Rocko's Modern Life, which were both instant classics in my mind.

I hated Pinwheel though. I won't even link to it, I disliked it so much. And if I recall correctly, it was on right after David the Gnome.

Animaniacs. I miss that show so much.

My friends and I have taken to watching random episodes of shows on the internet when we have free time from lectures, Animaniacs is a firm favourite!

I remember the episode with Ross Perot...

OK so I don't remember it exactly... but it was one of my favourite cartoons.

David the Gnome is the best show in the history of television. I hope that, somewhere out there, someone is going to put it out on DVD.

In third and fourth grade, we all wore bandanas. It was ridiculous. Then when bandanas weren't cool anymore, it was visors, but I didn't like them because they messed up my hair.

Also in third and fourth grade, we all brought stuffed animals to school. Most people stopped by grade 6, but I keep the tradition alive in my purse!

Then there's your standard Tamagotchi/Nano Pets/Giga Pets/etc, Pokemon cards, and all that good stuff that I think all the 90s kids did.
