Blackwing, welcome to Neoaddicts Anonymous. Hi, my name is everconfused and I am addicted to Neopets...the first step is admitting our addiction ;)

Fellow insomniacs unite! I finally shut the computer down around 6 a.m., it's now 11:49 a.m. Been up for awhile, but we've been doing some stuff. What did we do before Neo? I know I watched more tv, cleaned the house more, wasn't broke from buying plushies (well, at least not Neo plushies)... I was never a game player, so I truly stink at most of the games (the ones I even understand) unless you count desktop spider solitare and free cell as being a gamer. No, I've never even had an atari, though once upon a time I pwned Pacman.

What did I do before I found all you wonderful people here on PPT?! That's the biggie. I was kind of lost, never knew anything that was going on, thought I was crazy or doing something wrong when a glitch or whatever would hit, especially since TNT's so good about posting about things happening...NOT.

Youth oriented...Why can't they just say family oriented? There are alot of us adults on the site! Who ends up taking the kids to Micky D's or Limited Too or wherever to buy all the Neo stuff? And ends up buying things for themselves... ;) But yeah, reading back, many of us adults are kind of loners. Amazes me how many people have never heard of the site. I had to explain the site to a store manager when I went to buy the mini petpet plushies (looked at me like I was completely nuts).

I got those strange looks too from store clerks when I was in search of the Neopets magazine a while ago--"Neo-what? You aren't thinking of Pokemon?" However, I did find one who actually played the game when it first came out--he runs the hobby shop where my daughter buys her trading cards.

If this was a weekday and Neo was down this long I'd be trudging to the computer shop to have a new modem put in (needs it) and have Sylvia (my computer) looked at in general. For some bizarre reason I have 4 svchost.exe on there, and I don't think they're all valid...computer dumb I am!

everconfused, that doesn't sound good. Have you tried dowloading PestPatrol? I swear that is the best anti-spyware/anti-virusware on the market. Caught things McAfee didn't.

Tested made this fabulous set for me!!! Isn't it great?

Morningstar, glad I'm not the only one getting those o_O looks when I go to a store.

I have spybot S&D (latest version, updated, and immunization in place), ad-aware (as a back-up), McAfee av and stand alone Stinger (which is fabulous - saved my roommate's computer when it got hit with that Doom bug), and my ISP has their own online spyware scanner, along with keeping up with Microsoft critical updates --- there was just one for IE -- if you don't have it folks, get it. Check for updates at least once a week and scan at least once a week with sys restore turned off. Nothing is ever found, but I just am not sure that those 4 svchost are good things.

I can't get Pestpatrol to d/l, never could, even when the computer was brand new and I know there was nothing bad on it (well, except for that blasted windows messenger, pain that thing was). It just locks up on me half way through d/l. So I gave up.

If there IS anything on my computer I have a good idea where it came from -- I went to d/l the latest Shockwave update 10.01? When you d/l that, there's a little surprise. It also tries to d/l yahoo toolbar which I do not want. And yes, it's deliberate. I've already written to Macromedia, trust me, telling them what an awful idea it is, etc. Their answer? Uninstall everything (bleh) then d/l the stand alone Shockwave and install from desktop. On dial up it takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r to d/l that.

The best? I asked a friend of ours who's a computer geek/genious. His answer? Desktop, ctrl/alt/del, click Processes and start clicking on each one to end process. His theory? If I click one of them that is needed it'll just turn my computer off and all will be fine. Like I'm gonna mess with processes or my registry. I don't think so!

The glitches started happening last year--around June or so. Geez, Tonu and I could write a book about all of the glitches that seemed to hit us simultaneously!

Sometime last October, the site was down for about 2-3 days. Right before it went down and right after it came back up, lots of people had lost things--morphing potions, expensive plushies, sinsis swords.

Then last November, the TP glitch hit. Everything on the TP at that particular time vanished without a trace. And was never replaced. Neopets didn't shut the trading post down as soon as they knew about the problem (through bug reports) but left it up for a few days. Anyone who didn't know of the problem and happened to put things up for trade lost their stuff as well.

On the plus side though, my 43-year old brother has gotten addicted to neo., I watched him stay up all night playing. Heh. Now I finally have someone in my family to talk to who understands "my language" and is interested in hearing it.

It is always nice to have another Neo-addict in the family! Then you aren't always looked at as the crazy one in the family.

Reminds me of my Mom. She used to think it was a complete waste of time. When a game came out last year(Hannah and the Pirate Caves) I let her try it out and she was hooked. I had been playing for two-three years at that point and had amassed a small sum of NP.

Me and my brother pitched in and gave her like 50k. Within two monthes, My Mom had created a fortunre of NP. It's terrifying how good she is at playing Neopets. We fight over whether things will inflate or not or whether its worth it to restock in the Bakery for minor profits or other shops for less items and larger profits, or over which stocks to invest in, hehe..

My own Mom beat me up on Neopets, lol. she wanted to battle and told me if I beat her I was grounded. XD it;s nice though, I have some common ground with My Mom now and Im closer to her because of it. ^_^

Oh so they've found a BIG glitch...I thought they'd closed it to fix the others like shop glitches and the neohomes and whatever else was on the site.
I wonder when it'll be up and running *sigh* oh well 8)

Morningstar, yep, I remember that TP glitch all too well. It was the first time I was actually glad I'm not a good restocker/had nothing on the TP. Remember how that one got explained when it was over? They made it part of the Mystery Island plot - that the tp faerie had been kidnapped and players had to find and rescue her. Nothing was said about the 3 or so says that trades were going crazy before they finally shut it down and no one got anything back. I felt so bad for everyone who lost on that one, and for the unfairly frozen people afterwards who just had np/items mysteriously show up in their accounts after that glitch.

Edit - looks at 16 (now) pages on this topic. This is getting as big as the security glitch topic!

Very cool that your mom plays and grandmom too! I'm old enough to at least be a mom myself.

Lab doesn't seem to be doing species change anywhere near the way it did before the av. Of course, my lab pet changed species the day before the av! Finally adopted him out yesterday and adopted a new lab rat. Maybe a lenny will be easier to change? Had the buzz (last lab pet) for over 2 months zapping him, finally changed to spotted and that was it for me.
