Yes, there have been numerous articles in Technology newspapers and mags the past couple weeks about it. This is undoubtedly why Donna said in the Editorial last week that soon there would be very few Red Pteri downtime pages. Here's one of the articles (from the Web Host Industry Review):

Through direct interconnection within the same facility, content providers can cut costs as well as the performance degradation associated with linking to multiple partners over great distances, resulting in lower connectivity costs, an improvement in end-user performance and an increase in reliability and redundancy.
