Is anyone else ticked off at yet another privilege people who buy Neopets merchandise have got? "Neopets has always been, and will always be free" is starting to seem more and more like a downright lie.

There is Lutari Island, Super Shop Wizard, Neocola (I think); it's something like that, and now Key Quest.

It's like they're trying to bribe us into buying merchandise. :/

It says that on the Key Quest site, so I guess we should be able to participate without buying merchandise, however none seems to have figured out what we should do.

Oh, must have missed that bit. I just saw the paged asking for codes from your merchandise.

Neopets merchandise isn't even sold in England - I haven't seen it anywhere, anyway.

I've just written to the editorial asking about this. I'm ok with being rewarded through site events, but why do those 'lucky' enough to live state side get to have an advantage all the time?

There are only a few toys and such in Argos and the like - no plushies, TCG or anything. Just some of those interactive toys -_-
*is annoyed* I have to rely on Ebay.

Yeah I know how you guys feel. I live in Sweden so I can't do anything, not buy merch, not buy neocash etc.

You can thank the new corporate owners for this. Nickelodeon is obviously more concerned with immediate profits off the users they can sucker into spending real money on virtual "property" than they are about keeping the site in the original spirit of free game play and entertainment.

Has anyone actually SEEN any of the KeyQuest merch out in Target? I stopped by there after work today and looked. I couldn't find anything but NeoCash cards (which I still refuse to buy). I actually don't mind NeoCash - I don't care if my pet is all painted up like a two dollar... person. Granted, being asked to buy something is totally different than demanding we buy it to participate. I want to play NEOPETS, not Webkinz.

I have. I called the two closest targets to me...the closest one doesn't appear to be carrying them (naturally). The other one said they had them, so I drove all the way over there, but they weren't out on the shelves yet. I'm calling them back nightly to see if they've been put out yet - I want a Gold Aisha.
That being said, my husband decided we'd give the one near work a try yesterday after work, and they had them (but not a Gold Aisha!). They had spots for the trading cards, but none up at the time, and had the new cased NeoCash cards.

I had to go BACK to Target due to forgetting to buy pens (thankfully it's less than a mile away...) and managed to find the plushies. I was weak and bought the plushie wocky too. They're very cute. Only one gold Aisha was left.

They aren't really *that* expensive ($7.99)... but I expected them to be bigger than Beanie Baby sized.

I can still play Neopets
I have not contributed any of my money to Neopets
Therefore, the site is still free to use.

Additionally, Neocola isn't pay-to-play, you just need to buy the on-site tokens from the Space Weaponry shop or Shop Wizard

{jealous} I wish my normal Target was selling them. I'm going to hitch a ride with my mom tomorrow (since my husband is busy) to head back to the one that is - it's a bit of a ways over, and not in an area I'm comfortable going alone to.

I know they're not the adorable plushies, but you can buy the books and gift cards off the Target website here:

http://www.target.com/gp/search/602-6317733-5123022?field-keywords=neopets&url=index%3Dtarget&ref=sr_bx_1_1

EDIT
...when they're released in April...

So Neocash cards do exist, then? I've never seen them in my Target (not that I've seen anything in the NC Mall that makes me NEED to buy a card yet... although some of the trinkets are cute). What part of the store are they usually sold in?

I see that Target.com claims they are available at my local Target.
