They are not encouraging ANYONE to trade pets through the pound. In fact, quite the opposite, since it's not only 100% discouraged to place your pets in the pound, it's also a freezeable offense to do it by trade for reward.

Like I said, buy potions, lab ray, etc. if you have to get the av so bad. That's the only real choice.

Actually, I have to say I agree with r4che1's comment. Each person only has space on each account for four pets and there are five different pet avatars (this doesn't include the additional petpet ones). If you want to get all five avatars for the avatar high-score table then you need to have some way of getting the fifth pet.

All the avatar required pets are very expensive to make so I can see a number of people not wanting to waste 100s of 1000s of nps just to spend another 100s of 1000s of nps - the solution, people resort to trading/lending/swapping/etc.

Either way the Pound ends up getting used if people are serious about collecting.

*Shruggs* IMO Neopets has encouraged lending by making these avatars (and too many of them for any one account to own) that required you to own certain types of pet. In addition to that its the high-score tables and the competitive nature of avatar collecting that only makes matters worse.

i didnt specifically mean they encouraged lending pets. but to be honest, i have many annoyances about the avs. I read in an editorial once that you cant transfer avs between accounts coz they dont want people to be 'buying' them, but with so many of them requiring rare pets or rare items people ARE buying them really. i can't afford half the items you would need to be an av collector.

I dont really have a problem with that tho, i just think the fact that theres an av high score table and it shows how many avs you have is just ruining the whole concept of the avs. the whole idea of having your own av on a chat board is good, as it personalises it, and obviously on a site like neopets they can't let us all upload our own as they dont have enough moderators and people could be uploading unsuitable images, but people collect these avs whether they like the image or not, and never use them. I will be honest, all the clickable avs i have tried to get as i might use them, but the only one i've paid to get is the vira one as i really liked the image and it is actully my av at the moment on neo.

So yeah, basically what i'm trying to say but waffling terribly, is that by making the av high scores, and displaying how many people have has removed the original concept of the secret avs, and to me, is just annoying and stupid.

Yes, that's one the best and only reasons I can see for the avatars Wasn't that supposed to be the initial idea when TNT released them anyways?

exactly! so having the high score table for it is defeating the point of them, as people are mainly getting them for their numbers, and not for chatting with. because of this the items needed have skyrocketed in price. if there wasnt a high score table the items would probably rise slightly, but not as much i would expect.

but they aren't likely to remove it now, as ppl who have spent loads of money on getting avs so far wouldnt be happy at all

I spent tons of nps on avatars.. just because I enjoyed collecting them.. I am just a perfectionist.. I want everything -__-.. ironically the avatars I spent tons on.. I end up not using because it just attracts too much attention.

I would much rather I be removed from the high score table really.. me and my friend actually wrote to TNT asking them to remove those who already got trophies.. but I doubt they will though

And I know a lot of people don't believe me that I want to be removed.. they just say I said it for fun.. but that's what I hope would be done one day..

if you stop collecting them you'll eventually not have enough and then wont be on the table anymore....

as for them removing you, they might not be able to without removing your avs due to the way the table is coded

Yikes! Thats every persons worst nightmare. I have transfered baby pets, and other good painted pets to other accounts. You always run a risk like this when transgerring. I'm really not sure what else you can do. Neomail, offer a deal (although risky). But he did get it fair and square unfourtanatly. I agree with you guys that the way avatars are set-up, neopets is pretty much begging us to swap items around, etc!

I collect them for fun.. with or without high score table I would still spend a lot of nps on them just to get them(I remember before the high scores I did a lot to buy a weapon from HT just to get fyora and pant devil avatar.. shame it never worked that time x.x).. but the weird thing is i don't even use them

I lost a Green Poogle trying to do a transfer by myself once.

Fortunately, the person who adopted it is taking good care of it, and I don't like the Poogles as much now as I did before they were redesigned.

As far as blaming Neopets for enticing people to do it to get an avatar, well let me say this. What sense of accomplishment do you guys get from 'borrowing' for avs versus earning avs? A pet av is a reward for those that enjoy those pets. If you absolutely insist on having an av for a pet you obviously don't care to have, you can buy any pet on here you want with potions, etc. I completely disagree with blaming Neopets for it.

There is an av score board, the more the better. The reward is the number going up. I only borrow from friends and we trade things. Help each other to get them. It's fun, what can I say? Also borowing pets is easyer if you know how to do it right. I wouldn't blame neopets but they did make the avs and know people will use pets for it. Just look in the pound whenever a new one comes out. Whatever pet it has will be in there. I requested an alien aisha av for owners. It's up to people if they want to try and lab aishas to get aliens for it. Either way people will do it and will continue to. Not everyone can afford however many thousand k it might be for every av. Though I do say that if you have a pet you really like, then don't lend it. I'd only lend a pet that I didn't mind getting a new home. As for items I only lend to people I know.

And? So what. It gives the people who want it something else to collect. I find it fun. And a lot of collectors do use the avs they have. A lot rotate them. Personally I don't just because I like one a lot and as pencil said, the expensive ones get you neomails like "Kan i borr0w yr doLL/tikkiii arrm00r/pets". But still display them on a pet page. I'd like neopets to make it so we could click and see the ones we have.

Thing is, some people like to collect them and some people don't. If people lose items/pets I am sorry but it's a chance you take.

You can put me in the don't column. Although I have benefitted greatly from these avs (I had a snorkle snout I bought for 5000 one night and sold the next morning for 99,999), I have never understood the need to have more than one av (and not even one if you don't use the chat boards), nor the need have a collection of something no one can even see. Since so many people have put a lot of effort into them, it would be nice if there was some way to display the ones you have.

Nothing wrong with those of you who do collect them, mind you. I just have too many other things to do with my time, I guess.

First, that is assuming that the person who intercepted the transfer has aim and is willing to give you their aim name. Personally, I wouldn't give that info to a total stranger. Second, extremely risky with a 55K petpet attached. If a person intercepts a transfer of a painted pet with no petpet attached and is contacted nicely about it, the person might give it back to you. But if an expensive petpet is attached to it, the person probably was pound surfing and adopted the pet for the sole reason to resell the petpet.

Ok, sorry. I don't get what you're trying to say at all. I was talking about transfering painted pets, and you're talking about petpets.

Mark, perhaps you should read my original post. Twinklyspangle had a painted pet with a petpet attached to it. Basically, I said that it is risky to transfer a painted pet via 2 computers-- and even more so with a petpet attached to the painted pet. And, probably even harder to get that painted pet, with petpet attached, back from the person who adopted it.

Why? Because some people surf the pound for painted pets and some people surf the pound for pets that have petpets attached to them. The person who adopts the painted pet that has no petpet attached to it might be willing to give it back to you. Their intention in adopting it was to get a painted pet, but sometimes, they understand the heartbreak of losing a pet and will give it back.

But the person who adopts a pet with a petpet attached to it probably did so for one purpose only--to strip the petpet from the pet and sell the petpet. That person probably would be unwilling to give you your pet and petpet back because he/she doesn't care about your heartbreak--he/she cares about making nps.

If you have a painted pet that is currently being used to get an avatar, the same applies. The person surfing the pound probably adopts such a pet just to get the av and then to charge others a fee for transferring the pet to them so they too can get the av. Once again, that person would probably be unwilling to give the pet back because he/she adopted the pet for the sole purpose of making nps with it.

I think its a pity that there isn't some sort of account option where you could remove yourself from certain High-score tables - that would be very handy. They could make it so the person's name comes up as N/A or Anon or something so the high-score table doesn't end up messed-up too.
