I'm flabergasted by TNT's response to all this in the editorial. From what I can tell, most people could have stomached the revamp if they had left us an option to customize our pets. Which doesn't seem like it would be that hard to do. But instead they tell us it's their way or the highway.

UGH. Tnt has totally shot themselves in the leg and there aren't going to be any loyal users left to give them a bandaid.

Can my Neopet now wear my "I Love Sloth T-shirt"?
At the moment, clothing options aren't retroactive. We're working on wearables to fit Neopets going forward, but only time will tell if we can take previously released clothes and add them to the customisation pile (or if we even want to... have you seen some of the older clothes items? *shudder*). Please keep in mind that, if we release an item that all species can wear, it will have to be drawn 54 times by our poor artists, so it will take a while. :)

Ugh, now Im annoyed that they dont have any current plans to make old clothing wearable. That was what made me most excited about the customizing. Now if I want anything, Im going to have to wait until they make it, hope it was made for my neopet or all neopets, wait until its actually released, and pay ridiculous prices because its a new item.

There wasnt even a point in this weeks editorial. They couldve just written "Thanks for your questions and input, but they dont matter. We arent changing anything cause it took us a long time and lots of meetings."

What I don't get, is if they've really put so much time into and it was so well thought-out, then how come none of the old clothes are usable, and the pets only have one pose, and it's not even working right? They act like we should have fun customizing our pets. What are they talking about? All we can do so far is change the background. Why didn't they wait until they had more finished before they changed everything?

I am going to send these thoughts to TNT using the feedback form, but I will post it here too, because it will help me organize my thoughts and increase the chances of them reading my letter. My email will be one among thousands, but I am putting a lot of effort into it, so I hope that they will do their best to read it and consider the points.

Constructive Critique:

1. Elephantes - They do have large trunks. However they do not have bulbous trunks. It makes the head looks imbalanced, and detracts from the facial expression. The trunk should come straight down, like the royalgirl's face used to be. Having a straighter trunk will also allow us to see a bit more of the far eye, adding to the facial expression.

Almond shaped eyes are okay, and can be pretty. However the diagonal shape draws the viewer's eyes straight from the ear into the middle of the trunk, which is a blank space. The previous eye shape would probably work better. I do like how the smile gives a bit of squint to the eyes.

The upper limbs of Elephantes need serious revision. Elephantes are supposed to be physically strong and solid. The near shoulder looks weak and incapable of supporting a powerful arm. The raised arm does not need to be in a fist. If you've ever watch "My Little Pony" you know that hoofed animals have some sort magic "sticky power" that allows them to hold items without fingers. In a magical world, that is more realistic than making a fist out of a hoof

On a positive note: The ears are nicely done. I really do love the ears.

2. Xweetoks - Where do I begin?

Considering how similar the Xweekok pose is to the original, it should have been easy to mostly maintain the original face. The facial expression is where the sweetness of the Xweetok lies. The muzzle shape of the nose should be shown by shading, not by a horizontal line. The horizontal line makes the nose look flat, squashed, and a bit like Mickey Mouse (not a good thing).

They eyes should be the same colour as the mane. That's what adds to the shiny appearance of Xweekoks. Blue eyes are pretty, but only on blue Xweetoks. The neck ruff could also do with and extra shine. One of the main points of this species is its fur afterall.

The position of the head is a bit awkward. If you follow the slope of the spine, you see that it should be a little farther front. The original Xweetok pose captures this perfectly.

On a positive note: I actually do like the tail posistion. It looks long and fluffy.

3. Kougra - The Kougra is not too bad. The playful, adventurous essence os the Kougra has not been tampered with very much. The ears are lopsided, however. They always have been, but it's more noticeable now.

The open mouth looks strange in the reduced version of the image, which is the version that we see all the time. It's hard to tell if the Kougra is about to stick out its tongue, or is whistling, or what.

4. Aisha - The face and ear shape is good, in my opinion.

The space around the eyes can be a bit smaller, because it is distracting. For the paint brushes where Aishas have accent colours, the space around the eyes should be in that accent colour. I'm thinking specifically of the Island Aisha.

The neck can be a bit shorter. The current length of the neck makes the body look too small.

5. General - I feel like the pets are designed to look best in the larger size in the customization page. The main images of our pets that we see are the 150 x 150 images on the lookup. The pet images should be geared towards looking good at that size. If they ignore every other bit of feedback they get, I hope they listen to this.

---

Btw, mods, would it be okay to start another thread specifically do discuss critiques of the pet art, and not just general feedback and opinions?

Krawk: I can't really put my finger on what I don't like about them. I've compared the old color with the redraw, and I think it comes down to the eye. It looks like it is too suprised and happy and goofy. Before it looked like "Hi, I'm a krawk" and now it is like "OMG HELLO!"

Bori: The eyes in the redraw now make them look crosseyed or like some one just whacked them across the back of their heads. Other than that they're okay. I like the added ice crystal in my ice bori's tail.

This is the new rainbow pool for now. Some of the pets aren't working because their owner labbed or morphed it. But keep checking.

I wish they would let us have the option to have new pets in the 'old' colours and poses. I am quite thankful that my faerie peophin stayed the same; I wish there was a 'no thanks I don't want to convert' button under her lookup though! :)

Out of curiousity, if I create a new peophin and paint it faerie, will it default to the (awful) redrawn version?

*muses* Someone should set up a petpage showing a compare and contrast of old and redrawn male and female...

Yes. I'm very upset about this because I really wanted a Faerie Peophin and even HAD THE FF QUEST but held off because I wanted to lab her a little first.

Now it looks like I can never have one.

:sigh: I was so excited when I got that FF quest, too. Now there's no point: there's nothing worth making a pet into.

If they'd just WARNED US I could have painted her before the change-over, but NO... that would show consideration for their players, and we couldn't have that, could we?

... oh my... i didn't realize it was that bad. I just went through and looked at all the new versions of the royal pets... Talk about depressing. Suddenly I don't want one anymore. The poogle's a JOKE. Nevermind the jelly kacheek, how the heck does

Okay, wait a minute here...what's wrong with the new kacheek? It is LEAPS AND BOUNDS more sophisticated and artistically designed than the lumpy thing we had before, with its mindless smile.

I have to say that I think my pets look great in new clothes.

Look what I did mixing paint brushes:

Darigan + Halloween:

Ghost + Halloween:

My next goal is to buy a pirate p/b, mixing pirate clothes with bones will look great.

Not Kacheek, Jelly Kacheek. It was one of the few that wasn't touched in the last Kacheek Makeover (which turned them from awesome to stupid looking).

Now the most recent makeover had taken the only Kacheek I still liked, and...well, I can't say it on the forum - suffice to say, its not pleasant for the Kacheek
