I also suggest really thinking about the artist doing the tattooing, make sure they have a portfolio so you can see how good their work is. Adn it's good if you know someone who has had tattoos done by this person and can see the results first hand. Thats how I found my guy.

Extremely good advice. My friend had hers done before me and the guy was so nice and patient with her nerves. (She threw up in his bin.) I decided to go with him because his work was amazing and he was really nice to talk to. I chickened out the first time around because I went alone. The second time, I took my friend and he was really nice and gentle with me and even gave me a discount for turning up. Haha. :)

Thats what I thought, and it's actually not bad advice!

That actually used to be good car-buying advice, too. It's actually traceable since cars have their manufacture date on a sticker in the door.

Maybe you should try a temporary tattoo first and wear it around a bit. This way you can get a feel for it and see if it's a thing for you.

I've always thought about getting a tattoo, but then I think "Is this still going to look good when I'm 80?" There are a couple I really like and I'd still consider, but I'm too much of a chicken to get them. haha :)

I got my tattoo when I was 17 and so far no regrets. I'll have had it for 2 years this May.

The comment about it being on the back is so true. It's not so much that I forget I have it, its just that it completely fades from my thoughts unless something makes me think about it. If people mention my tattoo I don't think for a second "What tattoo" thats just silly, but unless someone mentions it, or something triggers a memory about it, or people are talking about tattoos I usualy don't think about it.

Oh ya I really like it, very cool design. I doubt you will get bored of it unless you start hating dragons.

That's gorgeous! I don't think many people grow to regret something like that, because it's not like it's an obscure reference to something; you will always know what it means. I'm glad that you like it so much! :)

Looks great! Congrats! I find that they don't really hurt, it's more like cat scratches. It's a tolerable pain.

And the itch is bad, DO NOT scratch it, you can take the color out and make it misshapen. Lots of Vitamin E ointment or some other ointment made for tattoos keeps the color vibrant and makes it heal much faster. Do not use polysporin, it takes the color out.

I know two people who have tattoos, one has wings on her shoulder blades/back. They're large but very pretty. She saved up her money, researched, and considered it a very long time before doing it. She hasn't regretted it since. Another friend of mine has a tiny butterfly on her hip, it was a spur of the moment thing and she is always complaining about how much she doesn't like it now.

Edit: Now that I actually finished reading the topic I see you've already gotten it. It looks really nice. :)

I have found myself recently thinking abou getting a tattoo - not really seriously, just wondering about it. I think sometime in the future I might have a small one, but obviously I'm gonna be thinking about it for a few years yet! :P Plus, I'm kinda scared of willingly inflicting pain on myself.

Yours looks great by the way :) Did it hurt a lot or is it the soreness afterwards which is worse?

mm, I don't really know how to describe it...it wasnt exactly sore, it was more stingy than anything. It was bareable though, apart from on the bottom of my spine and on the sides, like where you have love handles :P The vibrating of the needle makes it feel like really bad pins and needles :D And its not sore afterwards, just tender. Like if someone knocks into you or if you stretch. And very. very. itchy. You need to put alot of vaseline on afterwards to help it heal, and keep it out of the sun :)

I wouldn't recommend vaseline. I mean, would you put vaseline on an open wound? Nope. I can't remember what I used now but there's nothing you can do to ease the itching so you pretty much have to put up with it for a couple of weeks. :P

As for the pain, with mine, the linework hurt so much but the shading just felt like bad sunburn. But then again, mine is big and it was all tattooed over my hip bone. It hurt more on the bone than anywhere else. Hasn't stopped me from wanting another though, hehe.

STOP USING THE VASELINE! :o

And here's why:

Quote:
PETROLEUM PRODUCTS: DO NOT use Bacitracin, Neosporin, Vaseline, A&D ointment, etc... Too much of any of these products prevents the skin from breathing. The skin has to have oxygen to heal. You can also lose color as the ink has an opportunity to seep out of the tattoo via this thick ointment. Many people have many different methods of healing a tattoo so it is wisest to listen to what your artist tells you to do. Antibiotic ointments' purpose is to push out the bad stuff and it can't distinguish between ink and germs so it tries to push everything out. Very bad. Used in moderation some of these products can and do work but we've had more people have adverse reactions to this stuff so that is why I recommend Fragrance-Free Curel.

Go get some vitamin E ointment at the drug store. Not cream or oil but ointment.

I really like that, very nice :)
Watch which trousers you wear, any that rub against it can knock the scabs off.
I've used savlon on all my tattoos and they've all healed nicely
Apparently hemorrhoid cream heals them really fast too

Thanks for my sat Jade MWAH!
