Round 68

SSBB = Super Smash Brothers Brawl
To all of those interested in joining, there are no sign ups. You can just start playing right off the bat. If you need additional help, I am here most of the time and more than willing to try to help as much as possible.

Story as of now:
[img][/img]
- None, can't think of one

The Metroid drains Ryu for -3 damage. Yuna, Kasumi, and Luigi are still shocked at Reno’s comments last round.
Reno: You’re still hung up about that? Geez. Move on.
Luigi: You are a man amongst boys! You should be worshiped!
Kasumi: How can a brain so small fit in a head that large? And not just you, Reno.
Yuna: You have been disgusting me for as long as I can remember, but this somehow shocks me.
Reno: If I say I’m sorry, will that make you stop staring at me?
Kasumi and Yuna confer for a second. They stop to look at Reno, and Kasumi points at Luigi. They confer again then turn and smile widely.
Reno: Is all good?
Kasumi: Not quite...
Yuna changes to Alchemist and starts firing at Luigi with the automatic rifle. Kasumi jump kicks Reno then drags him from his chocobo by the ponytail to hit him some more.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Sephiroth is in a lounge. He is wearing a smoking jacket.
Sephiroth: If you have it, you don’t need it. If you need it, you don’t have it. Gets up. There is an exceedingly long painting of a ship behind him. If you have it, you need more of it. If you have more of it, you don’t need less of it. You need it to get it, and you certainly need it to get more of it. But if you don’t have any of it to begin with you can’t get any of it to get started which means you really have no idea how to get it in the first place do you. You can share it, sure. You can even stockpile it if you like, but you can’t fake it, flaunting it, needing it, wishing for it. The point is, sits in a different chair, if you’ve never had any of it ever, people just seem to know.
A fire kicks up in a nearby fireplace. A salty tune plays, and the word’s ‘Experience is Everything’ appear.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Sam and Raiden from Metal Gear Solid are standing facing the camera. Raiden is looking glum.
Sam: I’m a PC.
Raiden: And I’m a Mac.
Sam: Mac? Why do you look so glum?
Raiden: Because you are so cool. Everyone likes playing as you.
Sam: Aw! That is not true.
Raiden: It is! Everyone likes Splinter Cell. They think it is great. But no one want to play Sons of Liberty. Everyone wants to play as Solid or Naked Snake. They just hate me! Everyone loves Snake and hates Raiden! What did I do! I never did anything to hurt them. I even helped Snake! But I get all the heat and blame and discord, and he gets all the attention. I hate him. At least I am the damn cyborg ninja this time! I’ll make you like me! I think I did a good job!
Sam looks shocked and steps back. Snake walks on.
Snake: How’s it going?
Raiden: I’m in therapy because of you!
Raiden storms off the screen.
Raiden: Off screen I’m going to go cry.
Snake looks shocked and confused.

0500/1700 Rule: Regardless of when the last update occurred, you may make actions after 5AM/PM your time zone. There is no need to wait for an update to make an action, but it is recommended. Any actions that break this rule will not count as a legal action and will be promptly (eventually) pointed out. If you miss one of the posting periods, you will not get an extra move. I will allow posts +5 minutes in so you don’t have to rush your action.

Simple Heal format:[Character] heals for +2 HP [Do not forget the bold.]
Example heal: ‘ Kirby heals for +2 HP
Code:
[b][Character] heals for +2 HP[/b]

Specials follow the same format where appropriate.

Specials and weapons should be used before regular attacks can be used.

Special users can defeat one 1 or 2 HP NPC of their choice in addition to their special use (meaning without targeting the NPC with the special).

Super Smash Attacks (SSA): SSA actions are powerful, character-specific moves with special effects. They can only be activated two ways and usually involve the character being removed from the game (see below) for a short time. The SSA use counter does not reset until all characters have used their SSA. To activate: either use a Smash Emblem or buy it with some points. Characters that still have an available SSA are marked with the Yen symbol (¥)

Removed from the Game (RFG): Unlike in Magic: The Gathering, this is not a permanent effect. Characters removed from the game cannot attack or heal but cannot be targeted. They return to play after a set amount of rounds. At least three characters will remain in play at all times.

Special Character - Gogo: Due to Gogo’s unique nature, I will post his information every round. If there are any questions, PM me, and I will willingly help.
Gogo cannot attack or heal. He is active every round. He has only one special which he uses every round.
Special: Mime: *Gogo copies the last action done (the post above this use). *Gogo’s user may choose new targets. *If a special was used, Gogo receives -3 damage in addition to the special’s effects. *Cannot mime SSAs or actions in the GM’s posts. *Cannot be the first action of the round. *If Gogo is not used, he automatically heals for +1 HP each round, but he starts with 30 HP at the beginning of the game. *He counts as male for gender related contests.
Sample use:
Code:
[b]Gogo mimes [Last Character Used] and [Copies the last action as player sees fit][/b]

Starting/Maximum HP = 50

Factions: (** = Active Ability)
Castlevania: +30 - Vampire Slayer - Characters can automatically defeat two NPCs with 1, 2, or 3 HP or defeat one 4 or 5 HP NPC in addition any other actions this round
Deep Space 9ers: +50 - Reflective Shields - All attacks directed at the members are reflected back to the attackers. Members can still attack
Dream Land: +20 - Skill Copy - Members may use any special belonging to any [Faction] member. (Check character guide or with the GM for specials)
Hyrule: +90 points - Magic Sack - Members may use any weapon unlimited times (weapon changes user after each use unless user can do unlimited attacks) (Check item guide or with the GM for items)
Independent: +0 - None (duh, they have no team)
Defeated - Kongo Jungle: +20 - Monkey Friends - When a member is attacked, the attacker receives a -1 damage counterattack for every -2 damage dealt to member (counterattack is rounded down)
Mushroom Kingdom: +40 - Mega Mushroom - All members deal double damage for the rest of the round, but cannot use weapons. Negative side effects are doubled for members
Pokémon: +50 - Pokeball - A random, unused Pokeball is activated. Members are immune to the effects
Sephiroth: +60 - Summon Sephiroth - Either: a Guard Armor or Dark Trooper appear; or Sephiroth appears for the round and deals up to -20 damage distributed among the remaining characters.
Sonic: +60 - Hyper Sonic Speed - Members cannot be attacked for the rest of the round. Members may still attack.
Square Enix: +160 points - Job Change - Members may use any Dressphere that is currently not being used (Check Dressphere guide or with the GM for Dresspheres). Counts as a weapon action
Versus: +70 - Versus: Adrenaline Rush - Members may make unlimited actions. Special users may use their special twice (any given player may only use the special once)

Round 68 Announcements:
1: Both Brackets are Active!
2: Saturday is when the Tina-Ramza-BM wave will hit. Trust me. You’ll love it.
3: The new, month-long ‘mini’-game is essentially done being written. I have posted its information at the bottom of the page. It is just something big to occupy time since I have Spring Break coming up soon and will have to drop the quality/detail of the plots.
4: I hope you are liking the commercial parodies. They are really fun to write. If you have suggestions, feel free to PM me.
5: Groan! The two more troublesome items have to be Red Shell and Offering. And Beam Sword. And Super Mushroom. And Cloak. And the automatic items. The more you try to make the items as close to their origin’s effects, the more complicated the wording and the more adjustments to be made.
6: Ty and Chris both received a -10 Point hit for rude behavior. Chris for starting the rude behavior and Ty for continuing, even after I had posted a warning to Chris. Thus, it would seem that Chris’ punishment is more retroactive because if noone else had responded, then he wouldn’t have had more than a warning.
7: Serious question: I was thinking of sending out Master Hand soon. When would the preferred time be: next week or the week after? I was leaning the week after since that would be during my break and would be a nice distraction, but then I thought it might be nice next week as an end of finals sort of thing. Feel free to post of PM opinions.
8: I think FF XII have made Malboros too easy. They used to be a large beast to be feared, but now I have three varieties (including one with much higher HP than me) under my kill belt.
9: Wagers:
Oka - 10 on 3, d6; Roll - 4; Result: -10 Points.
Oka - 10 on 13, d20; Roll - 9; Result: -10 Points.
Oka - 15 on odd, d12; Roll - 7; Result: +30 Points.
10: Both Brackets are Active!

This Round's Weapons:
1 Freezie: -4 damage to one character. Target cannot be attacked or take actions for the rest of the round. Cannot target special users.

This Round's Dressphere - Square Enix use only!:
Mascot - Party Time: -5 damage to one character. Sphere user is automatically immune to regular attacks

This Round's Specials:
Gogo - Mime: See above
1) Kite: Storm Rage: -6 damage to one character and -1 damage to Kite
2) Knuckles: Fire Dunk: -3 damage to two characters
3) None
4) None
SSA: None

This Round's Stage:
None

This Round's Mini-game:
Clan Hunt
I am looking for new wallpapers and am willing to ‘pay’ if you assist in the ‘hunt’. If you can point me towards any websites that have good, anime-style (better if series-based) wallpapers, you will earn +5 points per link. No more than 5 links per day please. Thanks for any help.

Referral Services
Once again, I ask to count the number of references that have been made. But wait! It isn’t just for today! It is for the whole month of March! This shouldn’t be too hard since I have made many references a day for a long time. The dates you want to search from are March 1st to March 31st. The ‘mini-game’ will be active while March is still ending, but that is by design. Collaboration is fine, but there will be no prize splitting. Entries by non-players are accepted. Prizes for those entries are added to the general pool for later redistribution. PM all questions. If they require clarification overall, then I will announce them.

What to Look For:
1) Subtle references. The commercials and direct quotes are some of the few direct references that will be counted. The Characters, the Stages, the Items, the NPCs, etc are not counted. References to their games are only counted in plots or announcements. If in doubt, put it in, but find another just in case it is not counted.
2) Only look in Plots and Announcements. Everything else is virtually the same information every single time. Added to this ‘hint,’ only look in posts that I have made that contain plot or announcements. That means you have ignore Christopher’s wonderful FLCL reference and link (Love that song!) as well as any other references in players’ posts or my corrections. (No staff-chucks :()
3) Double references. Big hint on what I mean by that: Mr Kennedy’s NBC-style PSA with the Resident Evil twist. Or Snake, Sam, and Raiden’s commercial. They are a little subtler, but worth two references on the final tally.
4) Anything else? This space will be used for clarification if needed.

Entry Dates: Midnight April 1 (by your time zone) - Midnight April 5 (by my time zone/NST).
Winners posted: April 7 Update

(Times chosen as to give players more than enough time to send in an entry)

Entry Format:
Code:
Day #:
Reference - Source - Approximate location of reference in the post.
Next reference
Day #+1: etc

Prizes:
1st - +100 Points and ???
2nd - +50 Points and ???
All entries that are a minimum of 25 references long get +10 Points automatically. The entry with the most, accurate references wins. The list of references that I have found will be posted at the end of the mini-game.

This Round's NPC(s):
1 Metroid: 5 HP. +5 points when defeated. Immune to regular attacks. Deals - 3 damage to one character at the end of this round. Instantly defeated by any DS9er or Team Sephiroth special.

This Round's Faction Ability:
None

Quick but important poll!
If you want to be polled (no need to enter), please post what time zone you are in, based on GMT. I am in PST which is GMT -8. This way I can keep track of double posts better. Thank you!

In any case I was just quoting the picture reference which I thought everyone on the internets knew about.

Story as of now:
Image
- Just a box of oranges pic from Game Spot

The Metroid goes over to the unconscious Reno where Yuna left him. It settles on his face and starts eating. Reno wakes and screams.
Reno: Uh... little help!
The nearby Luigi squishes the Metroid onto Reno’s face then passes out again.
Reno: Thanks.
Ramza walks out and stretches.
Ramza: Aw! That was a great rest. Who is ready to bring it?
Two Moblins and some Goombas jump out, ready to attack.
Ramza: Good. You want those people over there...
Ramza slinks away then starts running.
-----------------------------------------------------------
A blue blur is zipping down a coastal highway. It shoots past beautiful trees and the shimmering ocean. It passes over a fancy bridge in Big Sur. Sonic skids to a stop in front of a lighthouse. He fixes his hair and gives a thumbs up. Suddenly, a black Mazda slams into Sonic. He is thrown into the air and rings fall everywhere.
Sephiroth: Wearing sunglasses. Zoom, zoom.
Sephiroth catches a ring as he speed off leaving a dazed Sonic.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Sam and Snake are standing in front of a blank screen..
Snake: I’m a Mac.
Sam: And I’m a PC.
An exclamation point appears over Mac/Snake’s head.
Sam: Whoa! Mac! What is that?
Snake: Oh. That is my warning cue. It tells me when danger is coming. Duck.
Snake ducks in time to dodge a wreaking ball. Sam barely avoids getting hit.
Snake: Don’t you have one of those.
Sam: Jumpy. No. I just have this gauge that shows how much life I have left.
Snake: Ah. Dang. Those are useful too.
The point appears again and Snake backflips to dodge a hail of shuriken.
Sam: But uh... yours is good too. Can I borrow it?
Snake: Sorry. Clancy would think it is cheap and gimmicky. Maybe if you get one of those Ghost Recon people to help...
Sam: They don’t like me because I get the fun jobs.
Snake: Tough break. The point flashes again. Good luck.
Snake walks away. A giant linebacker rushes onscreen and tackles Sam.
-----------------------------------------------------------
[Billboard: Luigi holding what looks like a very fancy vacuum. It has the text ‘I ain’t afraid of no ghost’ written at the bottom.]
-----------------------------------------------------------
A scary looking samurai with a big sword and a scary gauntlet has joined the others in the green room.
Pit: Who is scary looking samurai with the scary gauntlet?
Meta Knight: He claims to be the one who will deliver you from your earthly burdons.
Pit: What!?
Meta Knight: I don’t know. He just showed and sat down.
The beloved GM enters the green room to much fanfare!
GM: Ah! Samanosuke. Glad to see you found your way here. Guys, this is Samanosuke, our new hire. Samanosuke, these are our loyal dregs who are waiting to join the fray as well.
Samanosuke: Konnichiwa
Dregs: Hello.
GM: Good. Play nice now.
The beloved GM leaves, still to a fanfare. He stops to pick up his stereo and turns off the fanfare as he heads back to his office. A flush is heard, and Leon walks out of the back, drying his hands.
Leon: Who’s the new guy? Love the Oni Gauntlet. Bet you can kick a lot of butt with it.
Pit: You actually know what that is?
Leon: Kid, when you have seen as much survival/horror action as I have as well has have the same publisher, you tend to pick these things up.
Samanosuke: You are quite knowledgeable. I am honored by your wisdom.
Leon: Compared to this lot, I guess I do seem wise, but not really.
Samanosuke: And such modesty. You must be a great warrior.
Leon: Again, no. Meta Knight and Chief are easily two of the best I know.
Samanosuke: The demon and clockwork man?
Leon: Uh...
Before Leon can respond, Kratos bursts into the room.
Kratos: Booya! Kratos is here baby! Who’s the freshmen?

Dream Land: +20 - Skill Copy - Members may use any special belonging to any [Faction] member. (Check character guide or with the GM for specials)

Round 69 Announcements:
1: Bracket A is Active! Bracket B is Inactive!
5: ‘Apology’ accepted. Points restored. Never seen of that pic until yesterday (that I know of).
6: Yep! Onimusha’s Samanosuke has been added to the roster. He will appear next game, even though there are enough characters with high HP and few defeated ones to allow an early appearance. It would be unfair to the two other characters that I’m working on to let him in early.
7: One I am working on requires me to play a bit more FF XII. The other, I am waiting for more FAQs and guides to appear on Game FAQs for God of War 2 before working on him.
8: Looks at Tails’ HP. Let the games begin!

SSA: None

This Round's Stage:

This Round's Mini-game:

4) Multiple references from the same source count as one large reference. Just mentioning that since I found one like that on Day 1.
5) Anything else?

This Round's NPC(s):
2 Moblin: 4 HP. +5 points when defeated. Deals -2 damage to one attacker this round. They stay until defeated.
4 Goomba: 1/0 HP. +1 point when defeated. Deals -1 damage to one character each at the end of the round. They only appear for one round.

This Round's Faction Ability:
None

Quick but important poll!
If you want to be polled (no need to enter), please post what time zone you are in, based on GMT. I am in PST which is GMT -8. This way I can keep track of double posts better. Thank you!

Luigi throws himself at Tails for -6 damage, but trips over his shoelace and hits his head on the ground for -1 damage.

Only someone that clumsy could possibly trip in midair.

My bad. I accidently changed the color for Bracket A even though they are Inactive. Redirected to Peach and Y Link unless you say otherwise.
