I personally think Carrie Underwood will eventually surpass Kelly Clarkson, that's just my opinion. It all depends whether Kelly/Carrie's next album sells well.

Carrie Underwood is very, very, very marketable. :P

Not any more marketable than Kelly Clarkson is.

Carrie is directly aimed for the country market while Kelly is aimed for everything. But I can see a close race for both of these Idols.

If you're using a sig, if you could link back to this post (http://www.pinkpt.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... 902#705902) somehow that'd be great. =D

I think Carrie might be more marketable then Kelly Clarkson, simply because Country is a totally different genre. Pop artists tend to come and go, they appear, they dissapear, they have a comeback a year or two later, then they're gone again. Country artists seem to just be around in a different manner, you know they're there, doing stuff. And Carrie has certainly got quite a few acolades for her work alread. I know Kelly did too, but didn't Carrie get a CMA and a whatsit... golden globe?

I totally agree with you there. :) Especially about the pop artist part. Although Kelly has won more awards than Carrie, they both have respectable lists. '

However, Carrie's debut album stayed on the charts for 68 weeks!

# Some Hearts was the most sold album of the 2006 Billboard Chart Year (which ran from the issues dated December 3, 2005 through November 25, 2006), placing it on top of the year-end Billboard 200 chart, which is a first for any Idol winner.

Kelly has also been around for how much longer then Carrie? I think Carrie'll kick her butt in the end.

After spending 61 consecutive weeks in the top twenty of the U.S. Albums Chart, Breakaway descended to number twenty-four. It is only the fourth album in history to stay in the top 20 consecutively for a year. It then remained in the top 30 for 13 more weeks, making it in the top 30 for 74 consecutive weeks. It spent an impressive 103 weeks in the Billboard 200 (as of November 23, 2006). Then it re-entered in Billboard 200 (Issue Date: 2007-02-03) for its week 104, its last eligible week on the chart at position number 188, and fully completed its days on the Billboard 200 chart. It was certified six times platinum in December 2006 for shipments of over six million copies (5.7 million sold) in the U.S and 11 million copies worldwide. The first four singles from the album reached the top ten of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, with the fifth single peaking at #12. Currently, all five singles released have sold over 4.75 million downloads combined in the United States alone.

I say "Breakaway" pwns "Some Hearts".

Also had five top ten singles off the album, while Carrie's only had one?

I do love Carrie Underwood, but she may not win against Kelly Clarkson for longevity.

(And I really don't want to turn this into a Kelly Vs. Carrie thread, so sorry about that!)

Yay! Top 12, Boo Sanjaya, okay, here we go AI RUNDOWN!

Top 12: Diana Ross

Brandon Rogers - You Can't Hurry Love: The beginning was so shaky, and all over the place, it seemed like he was trying to hard to concentrate on dancing, and did his voice break?!?!?! AND he forgot the lyrics. Diana is not please xD lol jk. It was all over the place. 4.5/10

(Love the snarkiness)

Melinda Doolittle - Home: It was amazing. But a smidge boring, just the beginning though. Then she rocked it, I mean she transmitted the song, and everything. The beginning was a bit shaky, nerves. But she pulled the ending quite well. 9.5/10

(~*~*Paula Tears*~*~)

Chris Sligh - Endless Love: It sounded a bit like 'Speed of Sound by Coldplay', right? I dunno, he should've kept it simple. Sometimes less is way better. To me he tried too hard. But he did good. Good on ya big hair. 5.5/10

(~*~*~*DIANA DIVAAAAA*~*~*~)

Gina Glocksen - Lovechild: Rock it guuuuuurl :( The beginning was coolness. She enunciated alright, some words I didn't understand 100%, but she did good considering what she went after. She was somewhat flat as well, and pitchy. And I agree with Paula, she's better than what she did. Another one for the girls, though. 7.5/10

Sanjaya Malakar - Ain't No Mountain High Enough: Can I refuse to critique him? Gah, okay Wis >.> :P, anywho... OMG HAIR. Lol he's a DIVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. He even did the hip shaking, AND he has earings. It was cabaret. Work it gurl. Btw, he should not go for the bug note at the end. I'm just giving him the one point for the DIVA thing. 1/10

(Simon comment <3)

Haley Scarnato - Missing You: ~*~*Mariah Whispers*~*~, I didn't understand half of the song, she needs to pull the mic away from her mouth. She seemed like she yelled parts. And she seemed a bit drunk xD. And then she forgets the words, people LEARN YOUR WORDS, plzlthnx. I loved what she was wearing though. The other girl should've made it instead of her. 4.5/10

(Lol Real People ~*~*Care*~*~)

Phil Stacy - I'm Gonna Make You Love Me: I was pleasantly surprised. Phil is <3 now. This was actually my ringer for the bleakness that was my least relationship... *Erm*... Anyway, he did great. The performance did go a bit long/boring, but I loved it. Good on ya no hair xD. 9.5/10

(Diva Time~*~)

LaKisha Jones - God Bless the Child: Diva. I loved how Kat sang it for her audition though. No Mic Stand <3 It was like two diva's meeting <3. Take your time guuuuuuurl, take your time. *Church Hand* It was kind of boring, but boy did she rock it. <3 ya Keke. 9.5/10

(Is it me or did he seem a bit arrogant?)

Blake Lewis - You Keep Me Hanging On: He looks better with his hair down. I bet he'll be a good music producer someday. But as with Chris, sometimes less is more. He seemed bored though. It was cool, it would've been better if he would've gotten into the song a bit more. Which he did towards the end, but it seemed like he was just there to sing the song, and not like actually put for the effort to make it a great performance. It wasssalright. 8/10

(LOL Paula sitting on Ryan)

Stephanie Edwards - Love Hangover: She reminds me so much of Beyonce... Without the big weave. I bet that's why Diana was all buddy buddy with her. Anyway, she brought it down. She forgot the word though, and I do agree with Randy, I felt like the fast part was going to start in a few places and I got all excited for nada. I liked it. She did good. She's fiyece. LOL at Paula dancing! 8/10

Chris Richardson - The Boss: JT/KFed's lovechild <3, I love how he just goes in for the hug. Lol I thought he was going trip xD, the start was nasaly though, but then it changed a bit and he got on pitch. Lol I love Paula dancing <3. I also love how brave he was to do something different like going into the audience. That really set him apart from all the guys. Great job Chris. It was fun. 8.5/10

(Simon looks tan~*~ Lol at the shaddup music.)

Jordin Sparks - If We Hold On Together: It was okay, I mean no offense, I love her, but the whole beginning was so chill, it was boring. The ending though, she nailed it. Great vocals. Semi good job Jordin. 8.5/10

Dissapointing for the first show, but I see potential. Great hope for this season :D

Definitely a girl's night, I think all of the guys did below average, with an exception to Phil and Blake.

I personally like Likisha and Jordan more than Melinda tonight. Sure the song was great, and it was a great performance, but, eh, I'd really like to see a different side to her. It seems to be the same type of song every week (though luckily the themed nights will change that). I know that's her style and genre, but it's rather predictable, and tonight, somewhat boring. :\

Anyway, this is how I personally ranked tonight (with notes on those that seem to be in a strange spot)

Top Bracket:

Likisha Jones
Jordan Sparks (eh, probably my favourite vocals of the night. She was shaky on some parts, but definitely one of the better performances.)
Melinda Doolittle
Phil Stacy

Middle Bracket:

Stephanie Richardson
Blake Lewis
Gina Glocksen
Haley Scarnato (forgot her words, which is a big no-no, but the rest of the song was actually pretty good, better than she normally does, although somewhat pitchy)

Bottom Bracket:

Chris Sligh (didn't think it was bad, just very boring. :\)
Chris Richardson (terrible, terrible vocals. Started out okay, but then when to plain bad, worse than Sanjaya's were today,)
Brandon Rogers
Sanjaya Malakar (well, obviously a bad performance. His voice isn't bad, but, you know, part of that song is supposed to have "gusto"? Something I don't think Sanjaya possesses...)

I don't think I'm going to be using one of those sets for a while. :P It'll be a while until there is one distinct person I want to win...

---

Nevermind... I think I've found my idol. ;D

I have no idea why Sanjaya is still on the show. My mom watched it for the first time with me this evening. When it was his turn to sing and my mother heard his voice she said, "Aren't these supposed to be good singers? I thought that all the silly people were gone in the beginning." He was truly horrible. I understand that he has cute hair and a rabid fan base, but this is just ridiculous.

I was so impressed with Melinda, once again! I was also very impressed with LaKisha. Chris Sligh dissapointed me this week, though. So did Blake.

I'm sorry, but Jordan picked the sappiest song I've heard in my life. In case you didn't hear Ryan Seacrest, that song was featured in "The Land Before Time". That should have been a red flag. Her vocals were quite nice, but I expected a troupe of her sparkly-eyed forest friends to prance out from backstage and strew flowers over the audience.

*steals Chris Sligh set*
He dissapointed me. :( AND THEY MADE HIM GET RID OF HIS GLASSES. D: I LOVED HIS GLASSES.
And someone, shoot Sanjaya already. D:

Gina was pretty good. She reminds me a lot of Suzi Rawn lookwise.

...that's it.
I would've got to see the last three performances if I hadn't of been stuck in the bathroom. XP

I liked Chris better with his glasses on, too. :/

Poor Sanjaya. :( He courageously tried to keep singing while he was being attacked by whatever that was on his head. :/

Sanjaya would make a great muppet.

The floppy hair.
The floppy hands.
The mouth.

Yupyupyupyupyupyupyup...

He comes on with a different hairstyle every episode. When we get a little further in to this thing he's going to have trouble thinking of new things to do.

I'm waiting for mullet week.
