You can't give blood if you get a tattoo. So, I could never get a tattoo, I plan to be able to give blood, and if one of my children ever needed blood I'd want to give them blood.

Not true.

Wait 12 months after a tattoo if the tattoo was applied in a state that does not regulate tattoo facilities. This requirement is related to concerns about hepatitis. Learn more about hepatitis and blood donation.

Acceptable if the tattoo was applied by a state-regulated entity using sterile technique. Only a few states currently regulate tattoo facilities, so most donors with tattoos must wait 12 months after tattoo application before donating blood. You should discuss your particular situation with the health historian at the time of donation.

I like the idea of a tattoo, but I wouldn't get one for a partner.. I probably wouldn't expect my partner to get anything remotely similar done to herself..

Same, nine years in Germany.

No. Not just because of the obvious what-if-you-break-up-thing, but because I think matching lovers' tattoos are tacky.

1) They were a gf/bf? No
2) If you've been together for 3 years? No
3) Together for 10 years? Not their name; maybe something representative.
4) Engaged? No
5) Married? No. Refer to Question 3 if married for a long period of time.

For Question One; I've gotten a tattoo as a result of a relationship. I'd been pondering over it for many months. Then I got blown off one day; and so I decided to get it done. It was a Taurus symbol on the back of my neck; it really had nothing to do with my boyfriend at the time; besides he put me in a mood to stop being indecisive and to get it done.

I have two tattoos; and I will most likely get a couple of more done. However I think over them for long periods of time, before I actually even consider getting it done. I once had a thought to get my name tattooed in Russian.. haha but that was just a fancy. Haha.

I'm actually planning on getting just my bf's initial behind my ear
I think it's fine if you feel you are gonna spend the rest of your life with some one.
If you break up you can always get it covered up with something else

Two of my friends have been married 16 years and they have each other's names tattooed on them several times he even has her name on his manhood!

No, no, no, no, and no. I have been in a few long term relationships. I have been married twice. In each one, I was truly in love--at the time anyway--which could make one do something dumb like proclaim their love forever with a tattoo. Take it from the "elderly stateswoman" in the bunch, no way in hell. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. You can get a divorce quicker and with much less pain than removing a tattoo of your (former) loved one's name. And it is quite complicated to get "Suzy Forever" changed into a tattoo of a snake, though I have a few friends who have had to go that route. The break up caused enough pain. Changing or eliminating the tat would only cause more. I could just see someone going to get the laser removal and with each blast, they are silently cursing their ex for the stupid thing they did to their body. Not good.

It's good that everyone has told me name tattoos are tacky, because now I definitely won't get my dad's name tattooed on me! My eyes have been opened. I feel complete.

No, no, no, no, no. I don't want Hepatitis C.

We were having this discussion today in Stats. My teacher brought it up, and it turned out someone in my class's mother got Hep C this way from her first and only tattoo. Now she has to take tons of pills every day and cannot eat certain foods. No thank you.

Oh, I don't think tattoos are tacky at all. I have seen some that just take my breath away. If done by someone who knows what they are doing, they can be a form of art like no other. But if I were getting a tat, I would opt for something other than my signficant other's name. For practical reasons.
