Ugh, the guy who came with the coloring books mentioned earlier was all like, "Pit bulls are the only dog who bite, hold on, and shake you till something rips or breaks." WRONG! If you're gonna outlaw pit bulls for that reason, you have to outlaw almost all dogs. Many dogs originally bred for hunting will do that- most types of hounds including the Basset, one of the nicest breeds in the world, and Labrador Retrievers sometimes do that too. ANY dog can be made mean, if you abuse it. If some states and cities did a better job controlling animal abuse, the dogs wouldn't BE mean.

Some lady, I think in Colorado, abandoned 80-something labrador puppies, 83 or 87 or something like that. Fifty of them were in such bad condition when they found them they had to be put to sleep. They're gonna try to punish her to the fullest extent of the law- who here bets she gets 10 years, tops? The government doesn't care about animals, they're not human. Ugh. *slaps government*

Yep. 10 years at the most. If that was 80 kids she'd get life in jail or put to death herself. If I was that lady I'd be ashamed of myself.

83 puppies :(
How did she get so many anyway?

Recently in my country a breed of dogs has been attacking people, one girl died a about 2/3 weeks ago, and its mostly kids who get attacked for no reason.

Strangly, they didn't put the dog(s) to sleep, the only thing the goverment said was that it is illegal to breed them.

The thing is, sometimes people use animal cruely to GET to other people, because we feel so strongly about it.

My friend's cousin used to have a dog and two cats. They had neighboars who hated them, and tried to annoy them all the time.

Now, one day, the neighboars went to far. They reported my friend's cousin's family to the RSPCA, claiming that they abused animals.

They hadn't done such a thing! And when the RSPCA came, without warning, and took the animals away in cages, their faces were so sad. :(

HOLY CRAP, Jellyoflight! Really? That's another thing... animal control people are stupid some of the time! Couldn't they tell the pets were in good condition? Hm... has it been another week? If is time for a new topic? If so I suggest pounds/animal shelters.

There was this one dog that kept running around, and almost challenged my mom. But it got scared off and ran away. It's chained now, so it can't hurt any people.

Now, that's really uncalled for. They should've checked if the animals had signs of abuse.

(Dawn, I have the trophies done for you. ^_^)

That's exactly what happened with the lady-across-the-street's dog. The owner said it was harmless, but it chased people around and scared the crap out of everyone.

Oooh, yay! Thanks. :) Could you PM them to me please? I'll have a nice reward for you later on when I am able to access my friend's computer (which doesn't have Norton Firewall like my own).

Totally off topic, and I have no idea if this fits at all, but I thought that this should be brought to your attention.

I live near a nice town with (what I thought was) a good Humane Society. I'm about a 1/4 of a mile out of city limits. About a week ago, my mom and dad went for a walk and found four orange tabby kittens, all about four or five weeks old. We'd been taking care of them, and my dad decided to take them to the H.S.. To our surprise, they wouldn't take them. They told us that IF we were in city limits, the charge to keep the animals would be twenty dollars per cat. To add to this, the place smelled horrible. It seemed as if it was illkept, and hadn't been cleaned for days on end. Not only this, they told us that because we live out of city limits, they cannot take the kittens. If we had lived a bit more into town, it would've been fine. We decided to keep them as outdoor cats, but many dogs run around my neighbourhood and I am frightened that they have no where to stay. Many don't, and because the H.S. won't take them, the pound does. I wrote them a letter regarding many complaints; I won't stand for it. I feel that it isn't fair that these animals are stuck in the pound for three weeks before they are euthanized. I am too young to start my own pet-care business; I'm not over 21; and I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions on the matter?

I hate killing shelters. I think it's just terrible that animals are euthanized just because nobody wants them. To raise awareness about how badly kept the shelter is, there's many, many things you can do. You could send a formal complaint to the SPCA- I'm not sure what they would do about it, I don't have much experience in that area. Anyway, another suggestion is to call a local newpaper with your story. They may reject it, but if they don't, it can raise awareness about the bad conditions of your local Humane Society. It will certainly stop some of the business of the Society, and make them change their ways if they want to keep up the business. As for the cats, put an ad in the paper and interview each person carefully who says that they want one. Check their houses and other pets to make sure that you can give the kittens the best living conditions possible.

I hope this helps, and good luck with your problem. :)

Oi, I'd like to join.

Anything counts as long as you do something kind for an animal- shelter work, dog walking, brushing, playing, etc.

Does that mean that if you work with animals that counts towards your time?

This is a site I found about puppy mills... Pictures are kind of disturbing, but thats how it goes, and I found it quite informative and interesting.

Absolutely. :)

And by the way- I'm going to add a section to the first page titled 'The Truth About Animal Abuse', which will be a section dedicated to websites about the truth behind puppy mills and other animal abuse situations. Feel free to post your websites here. :)

And we need more people to enter our contest! If you love animals, work with them! Play with them! Just spend time with them! :)

Sorry if this isn't the right posting here but here goes.

Animal cruelty cases rise

Gypsy is just one of hundreds of dogs saved by the RSPCA last year

The RSPCA has commissioned new research into why people are cruel to animals, after a record number of calls for help last year.
The number of cruelty cases reported against animals in Wales grew by 18% during the period.

The RSPCA received 120,000 calls to its Welsh helpline and secured almost 200 convictions for animal abuse.

Across the UK there was a request for help every 20 seconds.

RSPCA Inspector Kevin Paton - worst case

One typical case was a six-year-old cross breed dog called Gypsy.

She was found roaming the streets of Llandudno and was almost bald and suffering from a severe skin condition.

The infection was so bad the vet initially thought she would have to be put down.

RSPCA Inspector Kevin Paton said: "I've been an inspector for 25 years and it was probably the worst case of skin I have come across in my service

"There was hardly any hair on the dog when she came in and that was terrible."

New campaign

To combat cases like that the RSPCA wants to know why and when abuse begins.

The new campaign will target children under eight, as new manager for RSPCA in Wales Dominic Rudd explained.

"The younger one can get to children and influence the way they behave later on the better," he said.

The RSPCA in Wales received more than 120,000 calls

"It is obvious that cruelty is in some children and it is allowed to develop. We really want to try to understand why with the aim of preventing it."

Although more people than ever before called to report cases of cruelty last year, this may not be because cruelty is increasing but because people are more prepared to report it..

The RSPCA hopes there is less tolerance of cruelty, and cases are being reported earlier, means they can save more animals' lives.

Meanwhile Gypsy's case has a happy ending.

Although she will be on medication for rest of her life she has made a remarkable recovery and is enjoying a new lease of life with her new owner.

Thats good... Reminds me of a dog we had brought in once, its mouth was bleeding, and pads were bleeding, everything was bleeding and it had hunks of fur missing. It was a stray and hit by a car.. And it has a new owner, and it has to take medication for the rest of its life, about $900 worth of work later...

Augh, right! I forgot the contest... I'll enter.
By the way, I have to wonder... why is this on Word Games & Contests? Why not Misc Disc?
And also... should we petition for this to be a usergroup?

Poor bleeding dog! I haven't seen any really abused animals personally, just heard about them and seen their pictures.
