Found out (5 months after uni starts) i've got a scholarship and got a cheque for £2500, or $4905 USD.

A random but pleasant addition to my day.

Nick, that's fantastic news!!!! That must bring a great deal of relief to you--not having to worry about where the money for school will come from. And, to me, it shows that you must have at least a bit of smarts about you. Because they don't give scholarships (and money above and beyond that) to just anyone. Congratulations!!!!

Don't spend it all in one place. :D

And yers, that is awesome. You are lucky. I don't even get $10, except on my birthday or something. *Pout*

Well really the nice thing is that my loan and maintenance grant had me perfectly well covered financially... this is spending money. Or wise investment money perhaps.

GOD DAMN IT.

I am very bitter about this kind of thing because my mum earns too much for me to entitled to any sort of scholarship or grant.

Which would be fine, but there are 3 of us all off to University at the same time, and there is no provision at all for multiple births.

*sulks* *will be in debt for a long time*

Still, well done you and all that. Where're you at?

Oh dear, I do sound horrible bitter and twisted now, more so than I meant to! I don't begrudge anybody grants/scholarships, I just don't like the flaws in the system. It's a pretty current issue and all :P

Nah, you don't sound that way at all, Igg. It has to be very hard on your family. I imagine that it is hard on most families who are putting more than one kid through college at one time. And gosh, if your mom is doing all on her own, God bless her. My daughter goes to college in 4 years and, geesh, I think that we are going to have to sell the house and "downsize" just to pay for her expenses. Because even though we look like we have so much on paper (mostly equity in our house), it is going to be a struggle just to send her to a public school. Luckily, University of Illinois has a great reputation--and hey, if that school was good enough for me, it will be good enough for my kid. ;) Haha.

When I went to law school, I lucked out and got a partial scholarship. If it hadn't been for that scholarship (1/2 of my tuition) I wouldn't have been able to do it. Because Northwestern is a private school, not all of their scholarships are based solely on need. Some sweet soul actually funded a scholarship for people who had been out of school for 5 or more years and who had an undergrad 3.5 GPA (out of 4.0) or less. Like the darn thing had been written just for me. :)

Grants totally rawk!

I got funded through my first two years of college, but not the 3rd and 4th year. Ended up getting three jobs at the same time to keep up. I used to love that feeling of... ooooooh there's money in my bank account.
