School today is canceled down here in SE Texas! They just updated it at 6:20 after I was done getting mad and about to throw stuff at someone. The forecast was "Freezing rain". Generally, down here in Texas, freezing rain makes people go nuts. I'm glad they closed school. I didn't get any sleep last night :P :D

Yep, in Texas whenever there's any kind of frozen precipitation everything shuts down, because Texas drivers can't drive in it. :P

I woke up early this morning (6:30 am) to find out that it SNOWED here in the DFW Metroplex overnight and that UT Arlington was closed today. I had to wake up early because I had class at 8 am and then 9 am, and the news didn't say anything about snow.

This is the second time that UTA has closed due to snow and ice this winter. (And to think that my friends in Connecticut haven't gotten any snow yet is hilarious)

EDIT: Er, apparently one of my friends who goes to UT Dallas, they didn't get snow and they have to go to school. o_O

I work at a university in St. Louis, and the last time we had classes cancelled for weather, George H W Bush was president, and it was against the wishes of the man in charge of the University. He wanted to keep classes going, but was overruled by the university police department, apparently.

I've never had school cancelled, even in Red Deer when things were sheeted in freezing rain (and when I fell over and thwacked my head on the concrete because of the freezing rain).
However, I will concede that there are many places that are not used to cold snaps or freezing rain and that a vast majority of people do not know how to drive on icy roads. Which of course, doesn't leave me that impressed, but oh well.
If you live in Canada you really should learn to deal (i'm looking at you Victoria/Vancouver!)

I had to call into work today and tell them I couldn't be in today because we've got less then 1/2 inch of snow, but theres ice underneath. :(

Most schools here are at least delayed if not cancelled.

Haha yep. Its kinda funny to watch the drivers freak out sometimes, but not so much when they crash into other people/objects. Considering it was about 70ish 3-4 days ago this is a pretty dramatic drop for us Texans. I'm just glad we got a day off of school.

You think you have it bad in Texas? Come up here to Scotland and you'll see what a REAL hellish winter is like! Difference is, we know how to cope with it so my school was still on today :(

We had snow all sunday and sunday night, and freezing rain all monday. We still had school. *shrug* Then again, they may have been less willing to cancel since we've got finals this week, but anyway. I'm just happy that it finally feels like winter.

It is bad for us considering as Lost said, on Friday we were up to the 70s and went to the low 30s the next day. Our winters are more like fall or spring. Last year I think we had like three whole days that -felt- like winter.

So obviously we're not prepared for this kind of weather, I'm not even sure where the ice scraper is o_O

You stole all our moistuuuuure. :(

It's finally below freezing here- I live in Maryland, and by this time, we usually have lots of snow, but this 'winter'/late fall has been a mix of 40-80˚F weather.

Now that it's under 32˚F, IT WOULD ACTUALLY SNOW IF YOU ALL AND YOUR RAIN/SNOW DIDN'T STEAL IT FROM US. Every 'ice storms from Texas to Maine'/'snow and freezing rain from California to Maine!' etc. MISSES US COMPLETELY. D: *sobs*

can't find the sig from this set, so instead, you get a <3 .

The only thing they cancel school for up here in Massachusetts is snow. I'm not sure of the exact amount, but if it snows more than a certain number of inches, it's a snow day.

The only reason that's the only thing that cancels school is cause it's the only thing that happens here. :P One time they canceled it because it was too cold, but that was the only time.

(There was that one time they didn't cancel school and it ended up being this semi-huge blizzard, but that's another story...)
