You will need to visit the areas yourself and click on the links if you want the rewards.

This is the important sentence. You have to do the work yourself and not rely on others to supply the links. :)

That's fine by me! Like Daze and a few others, I agree with TNT's decision to do away with the "blank" process-click links. At least visit the sponsor game then click the "visit website for xx NP" button there. And then make some quick NPs actually playing the game :)

Yes but with that they're making it tipped in the favour of non-premium users. x-x That'll thoroughly irk a few I know.

Hah! But they didn't say you couldn't have your own list.

An answer from TNT in the Neopian Times:

Ok. There are people on the boards saying that TNT told them that sponsor links are no longer allowed to make NP. There are other people saying that Petpages linking to the sponsor links aren't allowed but that an offsite page, or having the links bookmarked would be OK. Still other people say that the sponsor links are now a "glitch" if you manage to get the NP from them... and abusing a glitch is freezable. So, what's the deal here? Are sponsor links taboo now? Are they OK as long as you don't have a Petpage linking to them? Can I still visit all the sponsor pages and get my free NP without getting frozen? And, if the links aren't viable and we aren't supposed to visit them, why do they still give out NP? ~kalis_coraven
Erm, any sponsor link that you click on in a sponsor game or activity is valid. You will still get the Neopoints and you won't be frozen for clicking on them (we are providing the links, after all). There was, however, a large number of Petpages that were hoarding old sponsor links that we'd removed and linking to them even though they were no longer valid. As such, we've had to disable the posting of these links. You will need to visit the areas yourself and click on the links if you want the rewards.

Thanks for the post angisfab. Now the next question is, is it legal to have a petpage (or webpage) that links to the games in question, and lets us know how many times we should click on the link/visit website/send challenges etc in order to get sponsor np's?

Sat Jan 06, 2007 4:57 am

I think that would be okay, as long as they are actually linking to the game. Probably not a direct link to the flash page the game is on itself, but the gameroom page.

I have no problem with clicking a valid link myself. What TNT might want to consider is having a separate sponsor game area or something so that those of us who do have premium (or use adblock) can still access the sponsor pages.

The problem is, most of the games the links were associated with are no longer on the site, so we can not click them "legitimately." I assume this makes them not "valid" and we're not supposed to use them. But they still give out neopoints, and most of them still lead to the working sponsor's page. The question is, will they start freezing people for doing it? I'm thinking they probably will, but of course, who can tell with TNT? o_O

I thought this was about the petpages that have the links to those things you click for.. say.. so many NP a day from sponsors
for visiting websites.

What page? I wanna see. T_T

Edit: whhattisthiss, is that an Airdale Terrier in your siggie?

Here is the one I use, its updated pretty often.
http://jadephoenix.org/NTWF/Neopets_Fre ... _Links.htm

Just a note on the webpage. It gets updated as often as the email address gets new links or a report of a dead link. It also isn't affected by the pet page censors.

However, if TNT requests it get taken down, it goes bye-bye to the general public. If you don't want to lose them all, a hint would be to click "save as" on the top of your browser, and save the page to your system, so if it does go, you will have a copy to work with. That was how Nagora's original page was saved before he had his account frozen (for a give-away contest) and the pet page wiped. You can always overwrite it if there is an updated page. Check the change stamp at the bottom.

The email that is on the page is checked regularly, and changes/updates are usually instituted at least once a day.

If you are uncomfortable with the whole thing, by all means don't use it. Again, it was developed and compiled for a few friends, but it's a free country and the page isn't restricted.

The main question is how would they determine what is legitimate and what's not? Many people assemble a lot of quick links on their favorites pages. How is that different than clicking on the page, or clicking off another page? How you get to the target site is kind of unknown to the target site, and someone from TNT would have to track the history of your clicking within Neopets to determine how you got to the link. The links themselves are legitimate.

About the only way to stop the old links is to disable the links from within Neopets. You can tell when they have because Neopets home page comes up after clicking one.

At this point, I just want to know what they consider "valid" or not.

I don't pay for Premium, yeah. But I still use Firefox and because of that I have this nifty thing called Ad-Block. So the sponsor links were the only way I could even get the Neopoints from it all. Heck, when going from the Games Room on Neopets, and picking a sponsor game (Like, say the Tomogachi ones from a few weeks ago) they don't even load because of it.

I've tried disabling the Ad-Block just to see and play these things, but apparently my Firefox is broken or something and won't allow me to. So I'm out of luck there. (And I refuse to use IE, Netscape, or even Opera.)

I mean, I've been using Patjade's page for a while now (and I love it, by the way.) but like a few others, I'm just scared to click without knowing what's considered as valid or not. x.x;

Sat Jan 06, 2007 4:43 pm

What I got form the editorial answer is that iif you can click on the link from the site -- ie, the game or page that originally held the link is still there -- then it's valid. (For example, I would argue that this is proably a valid link regardless of whether it goes to an actual page or not.)

If you have to use a process_click link -- that is, if the game that originally held the link has been removed from the site -- then it's not valid.

At least, that's what I get from the response.

TNT can certainly tell whether the link is valid or not: they can see you take the link because the process_click link is on neopets.com, they know whether that link is still on the site, they can see whether the page you were on before the link contains the link or not.

To each their own. Personally, I've worked too hard on my account -- most of it before the days of cheap NP from sponsor links. I'm not willing to take the risk.

(Aside: I'm reasonably certain that how you get to a target site IS known to the target site, but I've been wrong before. Anyway, I'm not sure that's the issue here. The links you're clicking on on petpages, bookmarks, etc. aren't to the sponsor pages directly, they're process_click links on the neopets.com server. Neopets can presumably see you follow those with no problem whatsoever, since they're on the Neopets server.)

Sat Jan 06, 2007 7:37 pm

I'm sorry I ever asked, what a mess this has become!

I interpret the Editorial article as a warning to stop using links you can't reach via those banner ads and sponsor games that are CURRENTLY active. YMMV.

Hopefully TNT will disable the outdated process_click links rather than freezing the accounts of people who used them in past. I had to remove a bunch of bookmarks because I share a computer and other people here were using the links, the same way they use the link to Tombola and Snowager, etc. I'd hate to see them frozen because I forgot to warn them.
