EDIT: Does the Wavebird work with it?

Yes. Yes it does. However, GC controllers will only work with GameCube games, some Virtual Console games and any Wii games that are made so that a GC controller can be used with it (like SSBB, which is rumoured to be playable with GC controller as well as the Wiimote)

Smudgeoffudge. you don't have to do large movements like in the adverts. All you have to do is make small movements (eg. flicking the controller to the right/left/etc. with your wrist will produce the same result as slashing in the same direction)

It's pretty much been confirmed that only the GC controller and the "classic controller" (the controller used to play classic games that are downloaded from the Wii) can be used for SSBB.

Quote:
The game was conspicuously absent from Nintendo's Wii showing at their 2006 Pre-E3 press conference. The next day, on Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at the After-Hours Press Conference, Nintendo officially revealed the game under the name of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Miyamoto and Sakurai, who were there to make the announcement, hinted that the game could have full compatibility with the GameCube controller. Sakurai said that the reason was because he did not want to "alienate those familiar with the pad." In an interview with IGN, Sakurai said the Wii's motion sensing features might not be included because, "we found that trying to implement too much motion-sensory functionality can get in the way of the game."[2]

That's from way back in May, but it's been pretty much confirmed since then (and I don't think SSBB would be very pleasant with the Wiimote, either. >_<)

Ya know what would be good, though? A fist-fighting game using the Wiimote and Nunchuk.

But for a game like SSB, with lots of running around and feet-usage and bombs and NO GUNS FOR SNAKE!?! it wouldn't work.

I'm excited about the soundtrack, mostly.

Yeah, I don't quite get why they took out Snake's handgun. Fox has a laser, so it wouldn't exactly make him that cheap of a character (unless they're really that uptight about letting a gun that looks real be in a game like that. >_>)

Anyway, it would be chaos with 4 people playing SSB with the wiimote. (not to mention it would be a bit awkward since so many buttons are needed, and I don't think the Wiimote has enough buttons to compensate.)

PCWorld just sent me an email saying that they've charged me £200 for a wii, but they also included a part saying that delivery was subject to availability. I wish they'd just let me know if it was coming tomorrow or not =:0/ will have to wait and see.

Tell me about it. But the only reason I didn't get on release day was I preordered in November.

You can't. They are completely different in almost all respects. I have a Wii and have played a 360 before, and I would say that they are both tremendous fun. It's all down to personal choice. If you want to leap into a console that already has an impressive array of games, go for the 360. But you also have to consider that the Wii may have a few brilliant games in the future.

The solution? Wii60. Try and buy both.

As has been said. Right now, 360, later in the future, Wii. It also depends on your style too, I guess. 360 is more likely to have games like the PS3, and the Wii will probably do their own thing again (with a couple of unusual titles thrown in here and there). It really depends on what you want to play (to be fair, you can compare the Wii to the GC or DS or GDCS as far as games go, that is, PS3 and 360 will share games, but they will very rarely be sharing anything with Wii. (I doubt this will change much this generation, but you DO get to download older games if you want to.)
