Editorial wrote:Hi, I'm sure a lot of people have asked questions regarding the current battling against the stones… but could you clarify whether it's battling for the plot or a war? In fact why don't you give us a definition of a war within Neopets so that all this arguing and false info can stop? Thank you if you do answer this question. ~nosenseuk
This is a plot, and plots can include puzzles and battling (and whatever else we think of). There is no such thing as "only a puzzle" or "only a war" just because that's what they may have been in the past, so there is no clear definition of a war. ;) We'll put it this way... just about every site event/plot has been different. The first Meridell war introduced sides, and the second had limited opponents. Curse of Maraqua had both battlers and supporters, as well as ranks, and the Lost Desert Plot was mostly puzzle, but a win in the Battledome was needed to complete it. Altador had no battling at all. Every plot is new and different, so try to leave expectations behind and enjoy the event instead of dwelling on what you believe the rewards will be. Plots are not meant to be a horrible chore you must do in order to be rewarded. If you're not having fun, it's probably not worth it. ;)

To clarify things for this plot, though, we will tell you that battling DOES count, but for how much, we won't say. *cackle*

We've had 6 plot events in which we could only participate by battling. The LDP had battling true, but only defeating Razul counted for anything. If beating Scordrax or the spirit had any affect on our score, I didn't see it. So, clearly, there has been a distinction between puzzle/game/contest plots and battling ones. Knowing how much they've screwed up wars in the past, I can see why they're reluctant to call this a war. If it's not a real war, then we can't complain about things like maxing out on opponents, because it is not a war. I'm perfectly content to have plots made up mostly of logic puzzles and mini games, but does this redefinition mean we're never going to have a proper and fair war again? Instead of suffering poorly planned wars, are battlers just going to have to hope for a few skirmishes in the midst of future plot events? Is it really that difficult to understand what most battlers would like from a war, the only time we're ever rewarded for spending millions of np and years of effort, and what was bad about the changes they made in the sake of "fairness"?

In short, so okay this is not a war, but does that mean that wars as we know them are a thing of the past? Are they simply not going to try because they think we'll never be content with anything they do?

Yea... so... about that battledome!

For some reason, I can't enter the battledome whats-o-ever! I select a pet to battle, click on an opponent, and NOTHING! I was wondering if anyone else had been having problems similar to this. I have had this problem all day and on a few different computers. Should I just wait it out?

*raises hand*

Your server is dropping it. It's happening to me to. Just be patient, withdraw your pet by going to the status page and try again.

After a while of doing this, I JUST got to attack the first tree thingy once, and I got the boot again. how frustrating.

Yup happened to me to .. I was battling the sycamore and got it down to 3hp and I got dropped and had to withdraw.

Status page just refresh.. it's only in battle where you can't refresh.

Eh, oh well. I'll try again later. I was just in a bad mood because of the fact that I've had a bad week. Sorry if I offended anyone. I get like that. ^^'. It's about 9:50 here. I'll try again. I blame dial-up. :p

Any suggestions for weaponry with a high hit count?

So far I'm only hitting him 17hp each time but considering the fact he's healing himself it's not really making a dent.

There is nothing to suggest that TNT are never going to have a War Plot again.

The fact that this plot is a puzzle plot with a battle element should be different from a proper war plot.

In the context of this plot - these fights are not a war. We are simply fighting battles.

I really get sick of the argument about battlers who spend millions miss out. It is their (our) choice in spending that much and no guarantee of anything other than glory in the battledome.

I am sure most battlers would still spend millions on weapons and training if war plots disappeared because they can still fight in the battledome.

Knowing how much they've screwed up wars in the past, I can see why they're reluctant to call this a war.

Only 1 war was a disaster and that was the Ranking System of CoM. All the other's went well.

Once again, in context of this plot, this is not a war. We are fighting as individuals as apposed to an army (one side defeating the other).

If it's not a real war, then we can't complain about things like maxing out on opponents, because it is not a war.

??

Not too sure what you mean. As we defeat each set of 'enemies' we have to fight of some more. In context to the storyline, this follows the comic and what is happening in the plot.

It is great that each plot has been different, this seems to be a good blend of puzzle/fighting and I am greatful for it.

Now, it TNT could buy a few more servers...............

Question: How does one increase their ability level?

Sat Nov 04, 2006 7:07 am

If your talking about faerie levels, don't waste your time. Level 1 and level 15 don't make a difference at all.

Most people who are still battling now, probably. But there are lots of people like me who've stopped, and plenty more who only battle during wars. There's lots of reasons why I think the battledome isn't living up to its potential nowadays, but come on. You get nothing from battling except for avatars and the DoN trophies outside of wars. That's why so many people still wanted a war, even if only halfheartedly because of TNT's previous mistakes. Put simply, war is more fun than everyday battling. You might as well ask why people cared about the Cup when they can play flash games everyday. If battling normally isn't all that great or rewarding, which I don't think it is anymore, wars are all we're left with. That's why I'm worried when an Editorial says that there are no such things as wars in Neopia. That instead of having plots focused on fighting, from now on they'll only be logic puzzles or games that sprinkle in a few opponents.

The Darigan vs Meridell war had that whole issue with switching sides and doubling your points. If that wasn't enough there was the fact that earning more points and increasing rank often rewarding you with worse weapon. The Battle for Meridell had limited opponents so that many players missed out on battling anything other than spiders. Hannah and the Ice Caves. Wasn't that the one with opponents who poisoned, again causing people to miss out on battling? Oh, and didn't someone with 5000 points get the same prize as someone with 0? Maybe it wasn't 5000, but I do distinctly remember being a bit upset about my 1900 points earning the same prize as those with considerably less. You've already pointed out the horrible ranking in the Maraquan war. Perhaps you were thinking of the Tyrannian or Sakhmetian wars? I missed out on the Sakhmetian one, and being the very first, I don't think there's much call to criticize the Tyrannian one.

As for the last bit, I mean that replacing old opponents with new ones means you cannot fight to the limit of your capabilities. Even without the lag, if you happen not to be able to stay up for three or four days straight, you miss out on fighting those opponents.

All that said, I wouldn't even be going down that rather depressing train of thought if it wasn't for the editorial. If all this turns out to be is a puzzle plot with a tiny bit of battling thrwon in, I'm just fine with that. But if this is the mold for all plot events from now on, I have a problem.

Sat Nov 04, 2006 7:24 am

I'd rather do puzzle plots than war plots at this point, the lag is driving me insane, and now i can barely defeat the sycamore so whats the use
