That's why I don't provide info that relates to my neopets account in any way. For other websites, like here and Avatarlog, I use a different e-mail address, login names, and passwords from neopets.

It's just prudent.

Seems sad though. It makes me appreciate the meaning of the phrase 'What is the world coming to?', yet I don't know if I really want to appreciate that particular phrase.

I received the exact same email, they are serious. I guess they're recruiting monitors right now. I have spoken to Sue personally on the MSN messanger and she has given me further interview questions based on the answers I have given her. If you would like, next time I see her online, I can ask her something for you...or something.

Unless I just got personally screwed cuz I went through that stuff. I have a feeling that it's a real based off of the other interview questions, but I dunno.

Has anyone thought that this...Eternal Serena may be the scammer or the scammer's friend? She IS the only one saying it's legit!

I got the e-mail I think yesterday and I reported it. And what a shock, the e-mail they used is my MSN messenger address. 3 people, which confirms that whoever is sending this e-mail is using PPT.

And like Rune said, I'm not surprised. The same thing happened to me a year or so ago, except that one they mostly used chatspeak. <_<

Bacon, don't even think about accusing me >.> But! I do believe the scammer -is- from ppt. Proof is towards the end of my reply. I got my hopes up and answered questions and was really stupid. I said not to report it because I thought I knew what I was doing. I'm sorry. I don't know if it's the same person, but the password to the email account that I got that scam email from got changed and I didn't do it. I had to go through an annoying process to change it. I haven't replied to the person who is claiming to be Sue since last night. Here is what "she" has messaged me since then:

Sue says:
Please instant message me when you arrive from work.
Sue says:
You need to contact me ASAP.
Sue says:
Since you obviously do not care I am going to go ahead and take action.
Sue says:
You are not responding to any of my messages so I am assuming that you are away. All of your accounts have been frozen. This is due to you breaching the confidentiality agreement that you agreed to. Earlier today, we saw that you had posted on a Neopets Fan Forum that you were becoming a monitor. This is not allowed, so we have taken action.
Sue says:
What you did is considered impersonating a staff member since you were claiming to be a monitor when you were not.

What the heck? Did anyone see me say I was a monitor anywhere? So when I went to check my neopets account, here's the message I got:

"This account has been FROZEN for the following reason:

This account was deactivated by the owner. If this was not your doing or you'd like to reactivate it, please contact us by clicking here.

If you think the above reason was applied to you by mistake, please contact our support staff by clicking here. Don't forget to include your USERNAME and explain why you think your account should not have been frozen. If you DID break the rules, please do not contact us again. Your account will NOT be unfrozen and you will not get your Neopet or items returned. But, you are welcome to create a new account, as long as you follow the rules.
Remember to read our Terms and Conditions thoroughly."

I believe you guys now. This is definately a scam and I'm being thoroughly screwed. I am sending a report to get my account unfrozen...we'll see what happens. Any advice? Any at all? Please?

Edit: They got my other two accounts as well. Except my second account said it was frozen due to impersonating a staff member. This is ticking me off.

Aww, Eternal Serena, I am so sorry for you. I have to wonder if "Sue" didn't have a cookie grabber that somehow got hold of your passwords.

I have been on Neopets from almost 4 years now and I have seen this particular scam (though not quite so detailed) several times. And, please don't feel bad for falling for it. My best friend's brother fell for a scam a while ago and the whole time that the brother was talking on im with the person, my friend (who is in his 40's, went to college, and is no dumb cookie) was saying go for it, go for it. His brother's account got cleaned out and frozen shortly thereafter.

As others have mentioned, it is best to have a separate email address for Neopets, PPT, and any other sites to which you belong. And make those separate from your im username . And to make sure that the names of them are in no way similar to your real name or account name. And when going on im or a unfamiliar site, clear your cookies first. That way if there is a cookie grabber, they can't get hold of your cookies.

Once again, you have my sympathy. I used to think that people would obviously know that something like that is a scam, but after hearing my best friend talk, I have changed my mind. Sometimes a person's emotions overrule their thought process. And I have to say, this person's email was really clever and well thought out.

Yes, the thought had struck me long before you mentioned it, but it just seemed a little ...  o_O to think that the scammer wouldbe someone here at PPT... Know what I mean?

And indeed, I use my AOL e-mail as my MSN sign-in, and that was the address the e-mail was sent to.

I stupidly gave this person my passwords and email accounts they were associated with. I'm so into neopets that I got my hopes up and thought I could finally do something useful for the site. That's why I fell for the scam.
The scammer is still messaging me over MSN, and has officially admitted to me that it is a scam. Big whoop, how is that gonna help me now? People like him/her make me sick.

Sue says:
I see you are believing the PPT people.
Sue says:
Would you like to talk about what has happened?
Sue says:
i know ur ignoring me so stop
Sue says:
I did scam you
Sue says:
at least let me explain
Eternal Serena says:
Why bother explaining? What is that going to do?
Sue says:
i dunno
Eternal Serena says:
Why did you do this? I don't think I'd believe you either way with what you did.
Sue says:
I did it to get rich fast.
Sue says:
how did u get so many nps? Also, why did u have berries in ur shop for thousands of nps?
Eternal Serena says:
Why should I tell you? And have you bothered looking at how long I've had the account for? It's taken me 4-5 years to get that much. That ain't rich. There's neopians with millions of neopoints.
Sue says:
I have been playing neopets since 1999. I agree it is a long time.
Eternal Serena says:
I don't care what you do. You're not going to be forgiven. It's a game, I can start all over again, regardless of what I've accomplished through my other accounts.
Sue says:
I had all intentions of giving you your account back
Eternal Serena says:
With what left? No neopoints and junk items left? Why bother?
Sue says:
you would have your pets, the same shop size, your scores, your shield.
Eternal Serena says:
So what? I'd still have to restart everything.
Sue says:
Well personally, if I was scammed, I would still want my acct back, even if it was empty
Eternal Serena says:
I wouldn't. If there was nothing left, I wouldn't care for it.
Sue says:
ok
Sue says:
Why did you have the berries priced so incredibly high?
Eternal Serena says:
The empty account would only remind me of what horrible people there are in this world. I'd rather start fresh and try again with no memories of you.
Sue says:
are you a scammer?
Eternal Serena says:
No. I hate scammers. That's why I fell for your scam, to stop people like you.
Sue says:
ok. Why were the berries there?
Eternal Serena says:
I'm tired of you. Do what you will with my account. I'm done. You won't get anything more from me than what you already have.
Sue says:
I don't want anything more
Sue says:
Your pet will be taken care of
Eternal Serena says:
I don't care what you do with my pets. I wouldn't even care if you put them in a pound. It's a game. Don't you get it?
Eternal Serena says:
You wasted your time to take some enjoyment from people's lives. I hope you're happy, I'm sure you are.
Sue says:
You don't care about your pets?
Eternal Serena says:
No, I don't. I care for them when they're mine and my accounts are normal. If a scammer takes hold of my accounts, then no, I don't care for them. Each of my pets belong to that certain account. If the account is ruined, then why should I bother?
Eternal Serena says:
Leave me be. You got what you wanted, so leave me alone.
Sue says:
Yes Ma'am

Since when were they a woman? It's the internet...for all you know I'm really a 54 year old male postal worker instead of an 18 year old female bassoonist. You just have to take my word for it that I'm the bassoonist.

And no, da_bouncer666, the person you found isn't necesarily them, it could be an unfortunate soul who happened to use the same name.

They obviously view PPT, but they don't have to be a member to read our topics. If there's something for phpBB that would allow us to keep any contact info invisible to nonmembers, we should probably get it. I remember awhile back we even had a button that led to our Neopets profile, but that was removed for obvious reasons. It may even be wise to remove all contact info completely and save it to PMs (you could still PM someone your AIM name)...it would certainly ebb the flow of these and any other riff-raff that may want to cause trouble.

At least they claimed they were going to give the account back with the pets...that's better than most scammers are. Keep in mind though, unless Sue's got some tricks up their sleeve TNT could trace their IP and trades back to their main account and they'll get frozen. I wonder why scammers even bother if it's just to earn money quickly...it's not like they'll have an account that lasts long enough to merit any earnings they recieve.

All Eternal Serena has to do is report to TNT exactly what happened. They will check out her old, hacked account, get the scammer's IP, and freeze her (assuming it is a her) and all the accounts she's been in. Hopefully she was stupid enough to transfer Serena's items to her own account, because they can see that, too. Stupid scammer.

I dearly hope that TNT catches this person and fries their...butt. Scammers are horrible people who like to ruin fun for others. What's the point? Compared to other neopians, I have nothing. I have someone else messaging me claiming to be a ppter. The thing is, they messaged me the same day that the scammer messaged me. This person sounds suspicious, but for all I know, they could be innocent - what do y'all think?

Ka To d'Aive a y'Opin says:
Do you remember me?
Eternal Serena says:
Yes
Ka To d'Aive a y'Opin says:
Whats up?
Eternal Serena says:
Not much
Ka To d'Aive a y'Opin says:
u live in cali right?
Eternal Serena says:
What makes you think that?
Ka To d'Aive a y'Opin says:
u said so
Ka To d'Aive a y'Opin says:
on ur profile on neopets i think
Eternal Serena says:
I don't think I did...O.o
Ka To d'Aive a y'Opin says:
im pretty sure u did
Eternal Serena says:
Maybe I did. I don't know. My brain isn't in the best of moods right now.
Ka To d'Aive a y'Opin says:
oh ok
Ka To d'Aive a y'Opin says:
should i go?
Eternal Serena says:
You don't have to...I'm just a bit weary of you and untrusting of ppt peeps right now. I got scammed and don't know if you're the same person or not.
Ka To d'Aive a y'Opin says:
oh ok
Ka To d'Aive a y'Opin says:
i found where u said california
Ka To d'Aive a y'Opin says:
http://www.animeforum.com/member.php?u=11474
Eternal Serena says:
What the? You actually go to those forums or just you google it or something?
Ka To d'Aive a y'Opin says:
google
Ka To d'Aive a y'Opin says:
eternal_serena california
Eternal Serena says:
If you googled it, then how did you know I lived in cali in the first place?
Ka To d'Aive a y'Opin says:
i saw it somewhere else
Ka To d'Aive a y'Opin says:
i couldn't find exactly where, so i google it and that came up,
Eternal Serena says:
I don't know if you're the scammer or not. If you are, then please leave me alone. If you're not, I'm sorry that I can't true you right now, and catch me on a better day.
Ka To d'Aive a y'Opin says:
ok then
Ka To d'Aive a y'Opin says:
i will ttyl

Edit: I'm wondering something. This person had all 3 of my accounts frozen. I checked my accounts this morning and they were fine. They were frozen sometime after that or int he afternoon. If my accounts are frozen, how can the scammer have access to them and rip everything off? Unless they did it before I got home...considering they knew my exact hours I worked every day ~_~

Oh snap, that's creepy. Googling people to find out where they live is usually not a good thing. Perhaps you should block all incoming IMs from people not on your buddy list...just to be safe.
