So, we've contacted an alien species, and they magically have DVD players too. They want to know about our television shows, 'cause they've heard that they're the best in the cosmos. However, they're busy aliens. They don't have time to watch every show ever made, and we can't really fit many DVDs in the teleporter. ;)

You've got 5 slots to show the aliens about the range of human experience and how awesome our TV is. What do you send them?

I'd have to go with:

I Love Lucy
The Simpsons
Lassie
Veronica Mars
Mythbusters

I would send them.

1. Blackadder
2. Red Dwarf
3. 2DTV
4. Doctor Who
5. The X-Files

Hmm. This is tough. I don't watch all of these faithfully, but I can admit that they excellent. Well these arn't in any particular order.

The Simpsons
Its been 20 years. They are about to start thier 18th season. An entire generation has grown up with The Simpsons. They are the American family. They have tackled issues over the years that many shows were afraid to go near. Are The Simpsons still in their prime? The simple answer is no, but when you look through all the episodes, this may be the best TV show ever.

M*A*S*H
Excellent writing, excellent story telling, excellent show.

The Looney Tunes (The Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show, whatever you want to call it)
You want classic, look no further than Bugs Bunny. Some of the segments date back to the 50s and 60s but are still funny and classic today. And Mel Blanc's voice acting just pushes this show up so higher.

Seinfeld
The best sitcom. Best characters, best writing. The Best.

Star Trek
This show made sci-fi what it is today. It produced many spin offs, and it influenced life in many ways today.

Those are arguably the Top 5 television shows ever. Now if we wanted to show these aliens the best 5 shows from different genres that are currently on:

The Amazing Race
The Simpsons
LOST
CSI
24

Sorry if that sounded really disjointed or anything, I've been really out of it.

Tough choice since I'm a huge TV fan. I'll just go with my favorites.

Futurama
Stargate SG-1
Mythbusters
Modern Marvels
(Either: X-Play, NCIS, or My Name is Earl)

If those don't convince them to atomize this planet, I don't know what will.

Probably these.

The Simpsons (long-running show)
Star Trek (shaped the sci-fi genre)
Seinfeld (the one sitcom show that shaped the genre)
Survivor (the show that pushed reality TV to the networks)
E.R. (Drama series)

I'd send them:

I Love Lucy
MPFC
Young Ones
Surreal Life
Late Night with Conan O'Brien

These are the shows that I think would give our planet the best shot at survival. Entertainment at its best.

Ugh, that show's horrible.

"Wait, you don't really like sex? Why? And more importantly, why?"

It's completely superficial which is funny considering three of the four women are ugly themselves.
