This happened to a friend of mine who I introduced to Neopets.

He loved neopets to begin with and was very happy with his new Lupe. He decided that he would save up to buy a rare "book" about lupes so he could learn more about his pet. He played games for hours and hours and finally had enough NP. He read the book to his Lupe and instead of being able to read the pages, he was shocked to find the book turn into 'purple' smoke.

He then neomailed the person who sold him the book, calling them a nasty scammer who sells fake books in thier shop. He also made many messages on the neoboards to warn people about the dissapearing books. My friend hasn't been on Neopets since.

I had finally saved up enough money to borrow an FQD for the avi, and found someone on the boards willing to lend. Since you can't offer more than 800k in NP on the TP, she suggested offering 600k on the FQD and 500k on a junk item, which I did!

Needless to say, she took my 500k, cancelled the offer on the FQD and blocked my neomails. I then realized the account was only 1 week old!

Duh! I wasn't really new then but I guess naive enough to trust people.

LOL at the Lupe story! That is so funny. I think we've all been slightly baffled by some neopets things when we first joined up.

I created a guild, all about blumaroos. Very pleased with myself, because I couldn't find another blumaroo guild, I started advertising on the neoboards, saying how great the guild was, how I was a massive blumaroo fan

Only to be told that I had spelt blumaroo wrongly in the title of my guild.

That's not too bad. I ended up giving my poor elephante a mispelled name. She was supposed to be hatshepsut_pharao, named after the only female pharao in ancient Egypt. I guess I was in a hurry, because I typed in "hatshepsut_pharou" instead. Now anybody who sees her lookup and knows about ancient Egypt will think I can't spell. :p

Nah, they'll just think the correct spelling wasn't available! You have to get creative with the pet naming just to make it work anyway!

The Lupe thing is pretty funny, I remember buying some sandals and a box of chocolate and wondering what the heck they were for if you couldn't use them!

I also remember getting an email from someone saying " I bought something from your shop please buy something from mine" and going and buying Coltazans Gem for 4000 or so more than it was worth (didn't know about the shop wiz yet) just to be nice!

Ha, I did the same thing with my lupe and a black jewelled collar. I actually still have it in my SDB, almost six years later!

Early on, I also bought from malls when I had a faerie quest, and I think I may have sold one or two items at the estimated value. But I learned pretty quick. I never made any huge mistakes.

It was a long time ago..I was just starting off when Sloths' trans potions were introduced to the site.
Oh me and my newly painted white lupe were oh so happy, but I wanted him to be a mutant lupe(which didn't exist, but I didn't know), so I bought a techo trans(for a whole 4k which was expensive back then). Like I said...I was still new to the site. I used it on my Lupe and was shocked when he became a mutant techo.

Make matters worse, I got even more stupid and spent another 4k on a moehog trans (I dunno why there) and used it on my pet...then got stupid AGAIN and bought the techo trans again and used it. Wasted over 12k on three trans which is like over 100k+ nowadays in about 30 minutes. >_>

My pet never did get to be a lupe ever again, even to this day...

I never touched Kacheek Seek since...well, till that avatar.

I think my biggest mistake on Neopets is buying hot items when they're still overpriced instead of waiting until prices lower. I lost a lot of NP this past Valentines Day stocking up on Mysterious Valentines cards before they were available in the gift shop and I'm too ashamed to say how much I spent on my Petpet Lab map.....

Couldn't figure out how to haggle from a shop for the longest time

It took me at least a few days to figure out how to send scores and earn NP. I didn't know that you were supposed to press 'Send Score' after a game. I never got any good scores in any of the games at the time, but I wish I had some of them now just to have some of the older games on my high score table.

I think that I had been on neopets for a few weeks or even a month when I got my first codestone. I was so excited! I made the mistake of looking at the price in its description for pricing in my shop.. and sold it for 800 NP. I was really excited when it sold super fast too ^^; Oops.

This one still stings when I think about it: on an old account (frozen now) I had the extreme luck of owning both a Skitchy Sketchy PB and a Strawberry Fields Forever PB (both through REs). The SS one I put up on the Trading Post, and being a newbie back then, ignorant of the value. Someone bid something on it (can't remember what, wasn't much, I think) and I accepted without thinking about it. I didn't even look back and wonder if it was a fair trade.

I can't remember what happended to the Strawberry one, but I think it evaporated along with my old account. I haven't owned a PB since, and this was almost 6 years ago.

Well... a few years back I stole my friends Checkered Paint Brush... he came over to my house, and logged in, and we were playing neo... then he left. And didn't log out. And I stole some stuff... you know. As you do.

I know. Shameful. I never told him.

But that was on an earlier account. Which was frozen for posting a chain-letter-thing on the boards. Also shameful. I fell for it.
