I just try to pretend that the Neoboards aren't even there. I consider pressing the "Post Message" button on the neoboards is like detonating a nuclear warhead..... your likely to get tons of people to attack you for no reason, people threatening or actually reporting you, 1 in 100 chance of getting frozen (which ARENT good odds).... yikes. I just literally pretend that they arent there. At all..... never go there, never will. No point to it! Ew!

I think i lost an account due to that.... it was my FIRST account on neopets, with a high level shoyru and lots of cool stuff.... somebody posted an add on the neoboards, and had a fake login page.. which i fell for and soon lost everything, and didnt even want to TRY to get it back. Thats why since that day, my main slogan and moral for neopets is, and ive said it before, and ill say it again, and im sure ill say it 100 more times, "If it looks too good to be true, it probably is."

PPT WAS actualy fighting this for a while. Anybody remember the PPT Mafia? We are a good mafia, not a bad mafia, would would make gigantic lists of people and then send them in to TNT ... i think thats how it went. We made it a mini-competition to motivate people, and it was semi-successful. That was cool....

I don't cheat at Neopets because then I wouldn't have the feeling of accomplishment. I enjoy slowly achieving my goals but TNT has started to erode my good times. I was frozen several months ago because of cookie grabbers, I got my account back but at first I was told that it was all my fault for giving out my password. For about a month I just sat and stared at my account too afraid to do anything. I finally began playing again and then they froze my daughter and her entire family for multi accounting because 5 people were playing. It used to be a family site to me, it was something I could do for fun, long distance with my kids and grandkids. My son said he won't be playing anymore since if you breathe you get frozen. He told me you can't shop because the auto buyers get all the good stuff, you can't wiz snipe the cgers will get you therefore you can't train so you stink at the battledome. It is getting to be a lose lose situation. I love neo because I can collect stuff and not have to dust it but I wish TNT would be a little easier to talk to so you can clarify situations before they become ridiculous. I will step down off my soapbox now.

Escapism is the only route for me

I dont think anyone could forget Dupe Day either, where innocent and unaware users were tricked into spending their savings to get an amazing deal on a Thyoras Tear, only to have TNT turn around and freeze them for trying to resell it instead of realizing their mistake and apologizing in a Trading Post note. Saying that they should've known better doesnt make it any more fair. People were paranoid for a while after that, wondering if that dubloon they just bought might've been duped.

I never knew about Dupe Day... I rarely checked the news, neoboards, or outside sites until about the time I joined PPT, and I still don't read the NT. So what was Dupe Day?

P.S. Speaking of paranoia, I've been playing Dice-a-Roo by clicking into the game, then hitting F5 and enter (because I get the "page can't be refreshed without sending data" message) repeatedly instead of waiting for it to load and having to click the button. My neopet gets bored with the game after about 5 min. of playing this way. When I refresh from a game-over, it goes right into a new game, subtracting the 5NP from my account. Because of this, I would argue this is a legitimate way to play the game. After I'm done playing, I put the food (usually 1-8 items) in my SDB or shop. Sometimes I end with more NP than I started with, but I assume this is from winning the jackpot or a RE. I've been doing this for about 3 weeks now. Do you think this is freezeable? I'm still physically doing the work; I just found an easier way to play the game. (And no, my screenname here is not my username).

Ooo... that works well.

I shouldn't think it would be freezeable, or I wouldn't have tried it. TNT did explicitly say in an editorial a few weeks back that repeatedly refreshing by hitting or holding down the F5 key is fine. It's just using an autorefresher or leaving something on your F5 key that you're not supposed to do.

In practice, I assume they tell the difference by regularity of refreshes and the lengeth of the refreshing spree.

Seeing this made me remember my earliest days in Neopets, when we had only like 3 or 4 games in what was called the "games cupboard", when the general atmosphere was a lot more friendly... i missed those days, but i guess when somethings grows, it can't help changing, you get better servers, better graphics, more games, more things to try but also more rules, more spammers, more auto vs human responses, less trust between players and the admin, etc, the usual 2 sides to every coin....

I was one of those hit by the game glitch, got my very first account frozen with the first pets I ever created (Uni and Shoyru, both pretty high levels and stats, since i was playing before faerie quests became random) and quite some funny trophies which can't be gotten anymore, like the trohpy for creating the funfair thingy...after some rather discouraging emails with the TNT I sort of gave up in disgust, just, groveling and begging for my account for some cheat i never committed (believe me, I have no idea HOW to cheat at flash games) didn't seem right, before that incident, i never even had a warning of any sort from TNT.

After that i stopped playing for a year, I was a avid game player previously (addicted to meerca chase and all that, my way of destressing), after the freezing i didn't dare play anymore, didn't have the fast connection for restock, didn't dare to do very much, it became more stress then fun, and then i felt stupid for feeling so wronged over a virtual site... just slowly dirifted back in the past year, even so, I'm not so attached to Neopets as i once was, I am prepared to get frozen for lord knows what funny thing, and I don't buy any merchandise at all...

so...I would say at least 50% of the paranoia is justified :P, I know it's just a virtual site... but we tend to get attached to the game after spending a lot of time and effort on it.

I have been banned from Neopets four times for various reasons. The Neopets Team is not to be trusted to be legitimate with freezing*, but if you are going to play Neopets, you should play it to the fullest.

This is a game and paranoia should not worry you. I believe in being a realist; you can get banned, but don't worry about it until you do. You battle for your account and you may win.

Conversely (to function like "The Dude" and steal words), this is a game. If you lose your account, the neopoints do not translate to anything in your life. Let it go and if you have a vendetta towards TNT, don't play and find a new waste of time. :)

*one time was legitimate, the other three were very wrong.

I avoid the neoboards most of the time. It's not really hard for me, I'm so used to replacing my voice with thoughts. A lot of the people annoy me to no end. Maybe occasionally, if a topic seems nice enough, I'll post. And also, I go to the Quest boards to get an item for a quest. But my name isn't big enough on the neoboards for anyone to remember me. I never hit the warn button, either - there are so many trigger-happy people on the boards that there'll be plenty of warnings for each topic.

I've had my account for some time now, and yes, the first was frozen - and it was so much my fault that I didn't even try to get it back (even after all my trophies and pets and neopoints... :( ). My friend was over, and I found a glitch on Ultimate Bullseye. I don't know why on EARTH I sent that score, but next time I logged on it was frozen. I just thought, "I'll pick myself up and try again." I'm not paranoid, but knowing how fast and well TNT freezes, I'd shut the window at any slight out-of-the-ordinary look of a game. (Okay, so maybe I am a bit paranoid. ;) )

I protect my account from scams aimed at the general public such as far-too-cheap items. I also block items from non-neofriends simply because there's no point. I don't belong to a guild where items are given out or anything, so better safe than sorry, right?

Some people are a bit paranoid, yes - but a lot of the time it depends on your neopets record and the staff member you get in contact with. I don't think I have any slight sort of record on my name at neopets (such as from warnings, etc.), and I've never contacted a staff member.

I never realised anyone here was actually paranoid about multiple accounts, though? Well, for all those people, my brother and I both play neopets daily on the same computer - same IP address. We both do the lab, both play the occasional games and do the dailies, and both join in the wars on different teams; but TNT has never cared. The fact neither of us go on the neoboards probably does help, and we have separate emails and signed up at different ages (I always wondered if that helped - would you sign up with different age groups if you were trying multiple accounts). This "TNT watches your every move" is just crazy; keep away from a record and too-good-to-be-true things and you'll be fine. *shrugs*

And that was my... uh... 2k senseless cents.
