To get secret avatars, you should look at
this page for a guide. To get a secret sidebar (which basically changes the color of your plain yellow sidebar to something more appealing), you have to either be in the right place at the right time (HAlloween, Winter, etc.), or have completed a plot that offered the sidebar as a prize (Maraquan Plot, LD Plot, etc.).
* I'm assuming you mean sidebar when you say theme, but if you don't, then I'm sorry, but I'm not sure what you're referring to.
