It matters most in the first round because the most teams will be eliminated now, so all of the unevenly matched teams(i.e. Darigan vs. Terror Mountain), who have significantly more supporters on one side, wouldn't have a fair chance of moving on to the next round.
If I chose Terror Mountain, I'd want them to go to the finals because I'd get a better prize for not having to pick a new team. So if it were the case where you got a great prize for choosing a team from the beginning that wins the Altador Cup(which we have stipulated is the case), then, theoretically, couldn't most Neopians have gotten together and chosen 1 team to support to all get the best prize?
Of course, theoretically. (But we could never all agree which was "best.") It just so happens TNT already fudged the first part, where we could switch teams before Round 1 and then they switched some back and forth so much they are no longer on the team they originally "chose" or even wanted to "have to" now root for. Either way, of course we all want to go through all rounds to the finals and get the biggest prize, but since the beginning I thought this highly unlikely, even though it seems the best intention. Seems more likely we would all shift around, losing at least a game or so and picking the next best team, until we all get to the finals.
If the scoring really works that way, I just don't think there will be too many "winners" but since we can all go to the finals and get prizes just for participating, I don't see too many losers either. I can't wait until they divulge just how the scoring is working. All this time I felt a creepy bug.
