Catch-up time! I think I addressed everyone who's asked for help since my last post.

kcharles, keep a scarab ring, keep the downsize!, keep the red scorchstone until you have 50 HP and then get a greater healing scroll, chuck the frost cannon and grab a snowglobe staff, keep the leaf shield, get rid of the other scarab ring and the obsidian dagger and pick up a stone club and an ice club (both around 90k).

Stone Club
Ice Club
Scarab Ring
Downsize!
Red Scorchstone
Snowglobe Staff
Leaf Shield
One-use bomb (do an IDB search for snowball and muffin and pick one)

And with the NP you have left over, TRAIN. Train train train. That's a good set I picked out for you there, but all battle pets are pretty lame until at least 35 str and def and around 50 HP, so even a great set wouldn't do you a bit of good against most DoN or war opponents. Your damage multiplier still isn't even a full number! (See my post about strength boosts on page 12 if you don't know what that means.)

Teelie, stone club and ice club are the most powerful weapons I can think of under 100k.

regelus, nice set. Now TRAIN so it'll actually do you some good. ;)

moreau360, that depends on whether or not you get lucky. Quests 34 and 35 can be very expensive or cheap; it's all luck. However, the HP is so cheap right now that I'd just buy one.

Redmanfubar, to completely beat DoN 1, you should probably have a pet with 200 str and at least that much HP (I did it with a 200 boost pet with just over 200 HP, and my strongest weapons were Sword of Skardsen, Honey Potion and Wand of Reality). You can get a nice chunk of the way with your pet, though. Weapons depend on your budget. Some common main (multi-use) weapons (and a couple important bombs):

Newbie/intermediate (1k-1.5 mil):
Scarab Ring, Tooth of Terask, other dual-duties I've mentioned
Cloudy Wand of Storms, Frozen Wand of Crystals
Enchanted Wooden Bow
Stone Club, Ice Club
Essence of Esophagor, Psellias Fighting Fan
Scuzzys Comb, Ramtors Spellbook
Honey Potion (once-per-battle)
Goo Blaster, Garoo Elite Blaster, Fungus Ray, Bzzt Blaster

Higher intermediate/lower advanced (around 3-5 mil):
Mask of Coltzan
Portable Kiln
Wand of Reality
Bow of Destiny

Advanced (7 mil-16 mil):
Werelupe Claw Necklace, Ultra Bubble Gun
Sword of Skardsen
Pirate Captains Cutlass
Ghostkerbomb (once-per-battle)

Master (too expensive for me!):
Ghostkersword
Faerie Slingshot
Attack Pea family

That was in no way a complete list, but those are a lot of the most common choices and should give you an idea. As for abilities, EVERYONE should have these:

Burrow
Sink
Drain Life
Fiery Gaze or Diamond Dust
Regeneration, Restore or Healing Vapour
Quench, Water Breathing, Steam Shield (only if you like. Block all fire, water, light respectively, for one turn)

Phew.

Looking for equipment recommendations... I don't really battle that much, just the 1-player BD's (aiming for Punchbag Bob trophy and Defenders of Neopia, also wars in the future)

My current stats:
Species : Kougra
Agility : 9 (fast)
Attack Strength : 13 (very strong)
Defence Strength : 13 (very heavy)
Current hp: 16 / 16
Level : 7

Current equipment (found/won; haven't bought anything):
Wooden Blocking Shield (newbie pack)
The Astronomy Club (Altador Plot)
Flaming Gauntlet (random event)

What I'm planning to get:
Scarab Ring
Lost Desert Dagger OR Scarab Stone Slingshot
Immense Rubber Axe of Doom (maybe 2 of these?)
Frozen Collar
Leaf Shield (eventually)

My questions:
1. which item/s should I get first? I'm planning on spreading my purchases out over a few weeks, instead of spending one large amount in one session.

2. Any other item suggestions? At this point, I can't really affort to spend over 3-5k per item.

Thanks!

I'd recommend you pick up an Obsidian Dagger, a Golden Geraptiku Talisman and a Bone Sceptre- they're all ridiculously cheap (actually I have a spare Obsidian Dagger if you'd like it), and save up to get Downsize! Some of the NQII Normal prizes are pretty good- if you're going for 1-player Rohanes Armour Polish is pretty decent. The In-Depth Battlepedia can tell you everything you need to know about these weapons.

Plus you ought to aim for getting the faerie abilities Cranberry mentions above (that'll cost quite a bit though), and of course the all-important training! You're under level 10 so to begin with you should train on Krawk Island (as it's cheaper), but after that it's generally better to use Mystery Island.

Signature, eh? We'll see about that...

Species : Uni
Colour : Baby (regretting paint job, there goes 600k of weapon money)
Level : 31
Health : 69 / 69
Strength : EXCELLENT (42)
Defence : GREAT (31)

current equips:
Illusens Earth Potion
Bronze Scorchstone (from 3 years ago)
Scarab Ring
Scarab Ring
Downsize!
Leaf Shield
Scroll Of Dark Nova

i have a Virtupets X-514 Super Shield too, not sure whether its better than leaf shield.

current assets: 370k nps, 120 halloween goodie bags (about 8k each)?, 57 sticky snowballs, 193 Silver 00 Hog Battlecards

i know i should get greater healing scroll to replace the scorchstone, not sure whether i should wait for prices to drop. also thinking of getting stone club, but then again i want to wait for prices to drop. and of course theres the chance of downgrade. i dont feel like getting any freezers either.. hated the snowglobe staff and black frost cannon that i used a while back when they were 6k and 120k respectively :o

pet not labbed, too stingy to spend any money in training anymore. battling strictly 1-player, have all faerie abilities.

in beginning of haunted woods in neoquest2 evil, but probably will not finish it for a long time.. been 5 months since i last played it

still trying to beat mission 6 commander garoo. beat mission 5 like 2 years back at 37 hp  thanks to my pwnage sticky snowballs.
tips and weapon recommendations please? 0:)

oh and one more thing, do you think neopets is going to rerelease halloween goodie bags this year? i dont want to hoard them for a third straight year :x

All three of you are in that first stage of weapons, so you can pick and choose from this stuff (which I've arranged roughly in order of price, lowest-highest):

Scarab Ring, Tooth of Terask, other dual-duties I've mentioned (obviously only if defence and strength are balanced)
Enchanted Wooden Bow, Earth Faerie Slingshot
Stone Club, Ice Club
Cloudy Wand of Storms, Frozen Wand of Crystals (again, if balanced))
Essence of Esophagor, Psellias Fighting Fan*
Golden Compass* (another dual-duty)
Scuzzys Comb*, Ramtors Spellbook*
Honey Potion* (once-per-battle)
Goo Blaster, Garoo Elite Blaster, Fungus Ray, Bzzt Blaster*

I've put a star next to the best ones. Of course there are other options, and I know some people don't like to use the "cookie-cutter" set, but... they're cookie-cutter for a reason; they're the best icon value for the money. So if you're a one-player battler and you want to just have as much raw power as possible for the best prices, these (especially the starred ones) are your weapons.

The only freezers in that range really are snowglobe staff and black frost cannon, so if you don't like them, you're kind of out of luck! Sometimes your species will have a freezer (and/or healer), so check the IDB for that. I would, but it's down right now. Shields: leaf shield or patched magic hat, sometimes virtupets x-514 super-shield or frozen collar if your stats are still low. Healer: greater healing scroll until you're around 100, even 150 HP. Stealer: purple sticky hand is still one of the best (and the cheapest). And abilities: sink, burrow, drain life, one of regeneration/restore/healing vapour, one of fiery gaze/diamond dust, quench, steam shield, water breathing (those last three are optional).

Note to everyone: Recently TNT released a bunch of nice new weapons in the 7-10 icon range (mostly 9-iconers). Now they seem to have moved on to dual-duties (weapons that attack and defend) like this new Golden Compass. This thing is reasonably priced, attacks for 9 icons AND blocks some dark, but of course is only really useful if your strength and defence are balanced. If this is the beginning of a new trend in the BD, defence is going to become VERY useful, so I would recommend training it, for sure.

Thanks Cranberry!

what do you mean by "cookie-cutter set"? I havent heard that term before.

Just read your additional note - i know my defence is terrible at the moment, but got a long way to go leveling before i can start improving it.

If you're making cookies and you use a cookie cutter, all of your cookies are going to end up being the exact same size and shape. If you have a "cookie-cutter set," it means it's just like everyone else's. For example:

Pirate Captains Cutlass
Sword of Skardsen (or Wand of Reality/Bow of Destiny)
H4000 Helmet
Ghostkershield
Ghostkerbomb
Portable Kiln
Jade Scorchstone or 50% species healer
Thyoras Tear, Thick Smoke Bomb, Honey Potion, Clawed Shield, or some other bomb/defender

That is what a lot of two-player battlers are using in my range. Not much variety... which is good because it makes it easier to plan my own set accordingly, but bad because a couple of those weapons are difficult to defend against (PCC especially, with all that air). They're cookie-cutter and some people don't like that, but there really aren't a lot of other choices.

Thanks for the explantion! I understand what you mean now.

I know when i've asked friends in the past about weapons i always get told to get the honey potion.

In the end i'm aiming to have a wider variety of weapons so i can pick and choose with each battle, but i think i need to make a bit more np before that happens!

The pet:

Species : Poogle
Level : 11
Health : 276 / 269
Strength : LEGENDARY (102)
Defence : GREAT (39)
Move : AMAZING (84)

Yes, I know.

The set:

Downsize!
Bronze Scorchstone
Lost Desert Dagger
Florbix Blaster
Lost Desert Dagger
Illusens Earth Potion
H4000 Helmet
Fruit Bomb

Obviously I haven't upgraded in a while.

My question:

I have another H4k I'm willing to part with to upgrade my set. What would you suggest in about the 10 million range?

Me in a dress - that's a once in a lifetime opportunity

Oh, 10 mil to work with! Fun.

Wand of Reality: 3.3 mil
Bow of Destiny (these two 13-iconers go well together): 3.4 mil
H4000 Helmet
Fruit Bomb
Downsize!
Honey Potion (double-bomb strategy is nice sometimes): 800k

That's 7,500,000. Now, one thing that would be cool for you is a Ring of the Lost, because it blocks all dark while doing 9.5 icons. It goes a little over budget, though, as it's around 5 mil. If you don't want that, some other third attacker would be good, maybe a Fungus Ray (11 icons, including some icon types the WoR and BoD don't have) or even a Ramtors Spellbook (very cheap right now).

Sell the rest. :)

I didn't include a healer, because the healer situation sucks. There are no species healers for poogles, and jade scorchstone/leaded elemental vial are 40 mil. There's the crisp blue tunic, but it costs at least 10 mil, I believe. There's the new bag of healing dust, but it's r99 and 15 mil. So I guess you could use a greater healing scroll, even though it only heals 50 HP. If you have one of the 33% healing faerie abilities, you could double that up with the scroll.

And I assume you're 1-player only, as your defence is low, so for important battles you can use a thick smoke bomb to block all damage and a lucky robots foot to heal to full. There are also different 50% reflectors you can use against opponents who do a lot of one icon. And there's winged scarab if you want to block physical, although I've never seen the appeal.
